Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Recently picked up a Seltos HTX Petrol Manual.

Few queries:

1. Has anyone tried what is the max capacity pendrive we can connect to the Seltos?
I was initially looking for 32Gb but 64Gb prices are almost the same as well, hence confused which one to pick?

2. Does Kia Connect show TPMS readings? Unable to find it..

3. Is it worth going for the underbody anti-rust coating? Read somewhere that the car already undergoes this coating during manufacturing at the factory. Is it true?

I use a 64GB pen drive for software updates. But I’m not sure if that’s the max capacity.

When the pressure is low, it would show as a fault in the Kia connect app. Otherwise, the current pressure would not be shown in the app.

This is a personal preference. I’m planning to get it done as part of my 1 year service as my place is more prone to water logging.

My 2023 Diesel AT gives around 15 KMPL in city with moderate traffic (10-12 perhaps in high traffic and even lesser in bumper to bumper) and around 18 KMPL in traffic-free highways

Hi, I just got my Seltos GTX and there is an OTA software update, but I am unable to download it as it shows an error saying, “check memory.” Does this mean I have to insert a pen drive to install the OTA update?

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Here is my experience and review of Second Service at Capital Kia , Perungudi , Chennai.

Issues I wanted to fix and things I wanted to get it done as part of this service:

1. ECU update
2. Minor scratch in front bumper as a part of scratch care program
3. Dent in the rear boot door

I booked my service around 20 days in advance on a Thursday so that I could avoid rush and also planned my day such that I can personally drop the car as I wanted to discuss about these dents and scratch with SA in person.

I did not get any confirmation message after booking , so I called them day before the booking to reconfirm the booking and opening hours ( since its a weekday , I wanted to go as early as possible). I was informed they are open from 8 AM.

Whole Servicing took 3 days , so I will go day by day

Day 1 :

I was there around 8.50 AM , I was asked to wait in their lounge .

Lounge Review :

Lounge was very basic it had AC , Sofa , two day old newspaper and TV's playing Kia's ad . No other refreshments , even the water is available only in reception which is right outside. From the lounge , you can see the service center operations .

Service Review :

There was one customer before me . I had to wait more than 30 mins before an SA was assigned to me .

After that things began to move faster , as there is no specific issues in car . I asked him if there is an ECU update for this model , he was not sure , he said they will do it , if it shows up in system . I showed him the scratch and asked him to take care of it part of scratch care program , as expected he did not know about this , so I explained him about it and asked to check with his manager about this . SA took photos all around the car and sent me through WhatsApp.

Then I showed him the dent in the rear , another person body shop took over and he gave me a approximate quote and then he went inside to exact quote. Returns back only to say dent is in a tricky place and hence they can bring back only up to 80% of original shape or he asked me to go for insurance and replace the entire boot door .

I am not an expert in the repairs but it might be tricky but I am in a authorized service center and paying an premium , I expect a top notch level of service quality . I left service center asking them not to do dent repair , which is around 1 hour from my time of arrival.

I was not handed any slips for acknowledgement , I was just told I will get message . I was told car will delivered same day evening or next day afternoon.

While I was returning , I wanted to reconfirm about their dent removal situation , so I contacted their body shop manager and explained him the issue . He said he will call back in few mins after checking. He did not call back.

Day 2 :

Around 10.30 AM, I wanted to check the time of delivery , so I got couple of messages from KIA to track the service status , it also had the SA's number , I called him multiple times and it went unanswered . I called their front office and asked for a call back . SA calls me from a different number and confirms me that car will be delivered in afternoon . Only then I realized, SA in the tracking link is not the actual SA working on the car and the tracking link also does not show actual service status as well and their tracking basically useless.

Around 1 PM , I get a call from SA saying scratch in front bumper is deep hence it would require repainting , so they cannot do it . I told him that is what scratch care program is for and asked him to check with his manager again.

He calls me after few mins says they can do it , but can deliver the car only on Tuesday ( 5 days later) .

I called their service manager and explained him the issue . I also told him about call-back promised from their body shop manager, which never got.

Within few mins, I get call from body shop manager about the dent, he reiterated what body shop person informed , dent its tricky and they can do only around 80 - 90 % look as before. I asked him to confirm this via email.

Service manager calls again to inform that car can be delivered next day , I had no option other than accepting it.

Day 3 :

I get a call around 3 PM that car is ready for pickup , as its part of MCP , I had to pay only for windshield washer fluid and added weights during wheel balancing . I paid Rs.260 .

I got to know there is no ECU update done, as it was not available for this variant. Scratch is front bumper was removed properly , no issues with that

Cleaning of interior and exterior was not great either . All over the body, I can see water and swirl marks left due to cleaning.

Overall Service experience was very average , I feel Kia should really up their game . Their tracking links does not work or give accurate information , timelines are not met , needs escalation even to get small things done . I don't blame SA, as I feel they are untrained .

Now coming back to the dent , Here is a picture of the dent.

Here is the screenshot of email from them

Although I appreciate that they informed me about it before starting the work , but I am not convinced enough to ask them to fix it. As these percentages are subjective , so I not sure if they trying to play safe or trying to charge me more or trying to get away if they do a sloppy job.
I would have accepted it if they would have said it tricky , we are going to take 2 weeks to fix it but I cannot accept the fact that they cannot fix it properly (although I understand its difficult/impossible to achieve factory finish) .

May be experts here , can comment if its that hard to repair . I am not ready to replace it as its not affecting any function of the car . Also , if you know someone in Chennai , who can fix this , please let me know.

Don't try to download the s/w update manually from the car MID. When you try to do that, you get that error. Even I get it.

The update will automatically download and get installed on its own. You don't need to do anything. The latest update in installed in 2 parts across 2-3 days. So don't worry if after the 1st part is installed, you get another s/w update message in couple of days. Only thing you need to do is to keep an eye out out for the completion message, which typically comes when the car is turned on/running.

If you want to manually update the s/w, you will have to download it from the KIA website onto a 32 GB or more capacity pen drive. Plug the pen drive in the USB port in the car and it will start installing automatically.

Refer to the Kia India S/w update page for more details.

Hi Vignesh - Usually, the service canters aren't inclined towards repairing damages coz it isn't a profitable business. I have had instances of dents and i opted for both repairs and replacements objectively and trust me, you wouldn't recognize the difference. Often service centers claim that repair job wouldn't give the body the same strength as before and, this isn't true either, if done through the right methods.

Coming to the point, based on the pictures you shared, removing those dents doesn't appear complex and very often service centers do a good job, in spite of the 20% quality reduction disclaimer. If you are hesitant, get it done outside of the ASS. The output will be great and will make you happy irrespective of where you get this done.

Any reason you are particular abt repair instead of replacement? What's also more important is the repainting quality on a repair/replacement part.

1. I feel this is a repairable dent. Percentage of damage to boot door is minimal and its not worth to replace it.
2. This dent is not affecting any of the functions

I have a similar dent, just below the number plate, but not to this extent. When asked them (Kia Perungudi) to repair it, they said the exact same thing. Obviously I did not agree to it. But I'm surprised they said the same to you too. Maybe they are pushing for replacement as insurance would kick in and they would maybe add additional charges. Not sure if it's a possibility.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Got the ECM Update done today morning. Reached SC at 10 am and was out in an Hour.
Total update process took around 20 mins. Could not test if there is any performance improvement, as it was a short drive back home in moderate traffic. Will keep a watch on the mileage numbers. Hopefully it stays the same or better, increases...

I have been using ADAS for a year now in my X-line and I will never switch it off ever. It made me start to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and avoid cutting them for overtakes which I had normally done for years. My driving practices have been altered so much (for the better) in these 12 months that I now no longer get any beeps and warnings from the car's ADAS system.
.
Agree with resistance to changes. However, in current Indian scenario, I don't think ADAS justifies it's cost, especially since it comes with top end versions in all cars, with additional features which might not be required (DCT/Turbo petrol etc.). And I repeat, almost everyone in my circle with ADAS don't like it, except for 1 gentlemen who has partial ADAS in his Honda city.

Truth is, all of us can live with a basic car, with minimal required features. But many of us like the good-to-have features. ADAS is such a thing, in my view. Disclaimer: I use some ADAS features and find them very useful. I have disabled front collision warning and auto-braking. LKA is useful when using cruise control on highways. Others, I have kept on. Of course, I had no choice since I wanted to buy GTX+, which comes with ADAS.

About DCT, I love it since it never gives me any jerks when shifting gears unlike my previous car.
Turbo: It gives me smiles everytime I realise it kicked-in. Is it really required, no. Would I pay a premium to have it in my car, definitely yes, unless I can spend obscene amounts to buy myself a car with hundreds of HPs.

Everything new is introduced in the top end vairants because it costs a premium while the technology is still afresh. Same thing happened with ABS, EBD, 6 Air bags which are offered as standard now.

I used to be in awe of how cars like Mercedes were the ones offering them some 20 years back. Mid level cars specially mentioned ABS near the maker's symbol as a sign of luxury. Now it's almost a given in all mid level cars from the base vairants itself.

ADAS will also become in the near future what other safety features of yesteryears have become now i.e. a must have standard safety feature.

It's on us how quickly we as a nation progress to improve our driving etiquettes and adjust to cars becoming smarter by the day which is inevitable.
