Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Owning a GT Line DCT Seltos, one thing that bothers me and I fail to understand is why does KIA offer only 5 Yrs. max Warranty, when Hyundai can offer 7 Yrs. Both Hyundai and KIA are essentially the same or sister companies and the Engines are the same in both Seltos and Creta. One more plus point for Creta contributing to their high sales numbers. Anybody knows the reason for it?

Hyundai provides 7 year warranty only for petrol while diesel gets max 5 years warranty. I have asked this same question couple of times to sales person that why Kia can not provide 7 years warranty on the same petrol engine + gearbox combo as Hyundai and salesperson just try to ignore the question.
If I am going to buy petrol + DCT then it is better to go with 7 years warranty as compared to 5 years warranty. Seltos is about 5 years old now in Indian market and I have not seen many complaints on DCT issues.

Yeah, i was specifically referring to the Petrol Engines only. Agreed, no major issues reported in the new 1.5 Turbo DCT version so far, but it would have been a bit more assuring and comforting to know that your have the Manufacturer's backing till 7 Yrs. for the critical components. You never know which part might start throwing tantrums after 5+ Yrs. Anyways, it is what it is.

In our traffic and weather conditions, and with a turbo engine, I think this is concerning. I will ask them to change the oil at 15,000km depending on its condition, in addition to the engine and cabin air filter. I'd rather ensure clean air to the engine and myself for a few rupees more, than "clean" it with compressed air.
- I'm beginning to see a yellow tinge in the LED DRL in the headlight assembly on both sides. Will also raise this at the next service.
- Updating the ECU should hopefully solve the above gear shift issues I have.
You meant to say change oil at 7500 mark?

Just wanted to know - how did you route the cable for the rear dashcam? Is it through the roof liner? If yes, than how will it take care of the curtain airbag deployment in an accident? Pardon my speculative question, but I’ve have a dual channel dashcam (70mai A200) and have connected only the front channel so far. I’m a little unsure about routing it through the roof liner for the rear cam.

This steering misalignment is a widespread issue and is a given in all the facelifted Seltos and Sonet’s from the factory! As a matter of fact, check the YouTube media reviews of Seltos or Sonets, especially those long drive review videos and you will easily notice their steering alignment offset.

My FL Sonet GTX too had the same issue from factory and had to visit the SC twice and after nearly 3 hours of alignment / calibrations and back and forth test drives with their folks, finally it is relatively better. Not perfect though.

Their technician himself told me that this issue is very common in both these models, from the factory itself! But they only fix if some customer really presses them for a fix. They however try their hard to shrug it off in the 1st instance.

Same goes for that yellow tinge of the DRLs. I know people who have replaced 2-3 units for the same issue.

It’s pretty widespread in the FL Sonet. Not so much in the Seltos. Get is replaced under warranty.
I did the read dashcam wiring through the left of the vehicle, removing the weather strip, tucking it slightly into the roof liner. This shouldn't obstruct the curtain air bag deployment at all, especially due to the force of the deployment.

Thanks for the alignment and DRL information. These both then should be classified as a factory issues and KIA should issue a recall. I'll reaffirm this with my service center on this as well.

Sorry for the ambiguity; I meant to say that I'm not confident that the engine oil can last 10,000km intervals. I didn't know about them using only mineral oil until my first service. But now that I do, I'll be sure to keep checking my oil every 5,000km and ask them to change it if required.

Wow! I’m short of words at this audacity of Kia!

Earlier I thought the price hike was limited only to the Sonet; alas!

I think Kia will soon go from how to launch an autombile company in India, to how to mess up a growing auto company!

Not a good move for the already dwindling sales of the Seltos. Too bad Kia; this is the last thing you guys could have done in such trying times for the industry.

I got email from Kia that new Gravity variant is added. I went yesterday night to get more details and compare to GTX variant. I was shocked to see Kia silently increase the price of GTX by ₹8k. It is not even 2 months since GTX was launched and Kia has audacity to increase the price.
Kia and MG are the only 2 companies who are increasing price every quarter.

Cost comparisons
HTX+ iMT petrol
- Costed ₹18.29 lakh in Jan-2024
- Costs ₹18.72 lakh in Sep-2024
- Expensive by ₹41k in less than 9 months

HTX IVT Petrol
- Costed ₹16.59 lakh in Jan-2024
- Costs ₹16.94 lakh in Sep-2024
- Expensive by ₹35k in 9 months

Someone in Kia management chain is still living in COVID era and did not have reality check. Kia needs to stop this price increase as their sales are going lower and with new Creta Knight coming in,
Seltos sales will suffer even more

I need to thank my SA for pushing me to finish the booking on 31st August for GTX. I called it their bluff when they said prices are going to be increased and teased them that it won't, but quite shocked and relieved that I did pay the amount before the price hike. An ex-showroom increase of 8k will result in increase of RTO/TCS etc, so effectively it will be close to 10-12k increase on road.

Existing owners:

How do you deal with the speaker reflection on the windshield? Drove a friend's Seltos today and noticed it as a serious flaw. Interestingly, it never bothered in any previous TDs, and now suddenly I can't unsee it.

Best to wear polarized sunglasses to avoid the glare

That came as a thought , but not sure if that's an optimal solution. Is there any dashboard sheet/cover/layer that can be used to minimize the glare.?

I keep a folded MF Cloth over the speaker area. Not an ideal solution, but serves the purpose for me.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Just had my very first long drive in my brand new Seltos GTX+. After a painful drive to my office to Gurgaon from Delhi during the monsoon season, where I managed to drive it in 2nd/3rd gear for the entire 20 km, I realized this car is not meant to be driven in Delhi, period.

Here are a few observations from my side. Let me know if anyone concurs:

1. The auto wiper functionality is useless. They are not up to the mark, and I kept switching between off and on instead of Auto, since they barely wipe the windshield when it’s full of water droplets.

2. The infamous left pull: While coming back from Meerut, I encountered this issue. The car pulls tremendously toward the left and has to be kept on a tight leash by LKA.

3. Headlight feedback is quite bad on this forum, but I found them quite alright on the highway as well as within city limits.

4. The rear windshield wiper is a godsend in this relentless Delhi monsoon.

5. ADAS is awesome. I can’t think of any reason why people wouldn’t want to use it.

6. I can’t manage to find the perfect seating position, and at the end of a 3-hour drive, my back is hurting like hell. The absence of lumbar support is the culprit here (any suggestion on this would be appreciated!!)

7. Managed to eke out a 17.5 average while coming back from Meerut to Delhi and 14.5 while going from Delhi (took 2.5 hrs so you can guess the traffic conditions) and I believe its awesome considering the size of the car and my Old Sx4 never given me more than 12 Km average on same roads.

8. The car pulls way too strongly to achieve the set cruise control speed. It was very frightening at first, but I gradually learned the art of reducing the set speed every time some stupid driver crosses the lane.

9. One stupid driver banged the car from behind on its second-week anniversary (I haven’t even paid the first EMI yet), and now there’s a major dent on the trunk. :-(

This is due to the improper steering alignment from the factory itself and is affecting both Seltos and Sonet.

Please get this checked during your 1st service. The SC guys will try to shrug it off in the beginning. Hold your ground and ask them to align and calibrate it.
