Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

A quick 7 month ownership Update and 1 un-solved Complaint -

Finished 10,000 kms in the last 7 months in my Seltos HTK Diesel AT and the car has been been behaving just right. I've upgraded from a 10 yr old Fluidic Verna and I initially had my apprehensions about the moving from Soft to reasonably stiff suspension of Seltos. In the course of driving thru 10k kms, I 've come to experience the benefits of this suspension in different road conditions and I am glad i chose this over its close competitor Creta.

Wrt performance, I wish there was a 2.0 ltr engine under the hood for more torque compared to the present 1.5 ltr, but I ve come to terms with the fact that manufacturing powerful Diesel engines under new emission norms are quite expensive and this segment doesn't have them. I've been getting a FE of about 15 in the Hyd City and about 19 on highways, which is at least 20% better than my Verna Diesel 4 Speed AT. I also like the breaking performance and the vehicle can come to stand still without breaking a sweat and this is quite confidence inspiring.

I am not a big fan of the Auto Start/Stop and I always turn it off during usage coz I am also concerned about the load this will have on the battery and I make the start stop decisions rather

Upgrades -

1. For enhanced Audio experience, since the stock audio setup doesn't have a stock amplifier like the Bose, I've added small upgrades by getting the doors damped by 1 layer, A Subwoofer with a 4 Channel Alpine Amp. This enhanced the Audio experience by a very good margin. At some point, I may get a decent set of coaxials for the rear door.

2. Upgraded the stock Goodyear tires with Continental CrossContact H/T on the day-1 for obvious reasons

Complaint - I started to hear rattles periodically on driving thru rough roads. I complained abt this during my 2nd service at Malik Kia and they didn't solve this issue. I know abt 1 common place that can cause this - Rear Parcel tray and I will get it checked. Would anyone of you have different pointers for me, to identify and sort this by my own?

Well, who knows rattling better than me.
Starting from the rear number place, which vibrates and cause some tick tick sound. Then comes the parcel tray, which will need some foaming and taping, if you want to eliminate the clattering completely. Third place is the rear seat locks, which again needs taping to eliminate the noise. Fourth could be the seat belts, which needs to be locked in place. Fifth, is the front seat assembly, especially the passenger seat and when you drive alone on a rough surface gives some rattling sound. You may check the same by constantly hitting the seat from the behind. In my case, it was replaced by Kia. At the sixth place is the sound from the A pillar, for which you need ASS help.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Took my Seltos GTX+ DCT petrol on a drive to mysore and used adaptive cruise control at 83/89km and used lane keep assist for the first time. It was wonderful relaxed drive and I even got a very good millage out of it (MID was showing 15.9kmpl)

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

The moment of truth has arrived, am I'm honored to be finally a part of the prestige community.

I've eagerly been waiting for my membership to get approved as my fingers were itching to provide my input and share my experience about my newly delivered Seltox X-Line Aurora Black (Petrol) variant.

I took the delivery on the 11th (The first X-Line Aurora Black Pearl in East India) and immediately took it to get the PPF done with some additional accessories fitment (More on my experience and the modifications done on the vehicle later after getting the delivery)

Things I'm getting done:
1. Paintguard Matt PPF (I love the glossy black, but I prefer the matt black over the glossy black)
2. 7D Matts
3. Neon colored Calipers
4. Bonnet, Doors (Dual Layer), Trunk, Rear Fenders damping
5. Sunfilm for the Panoramic Sunroof
6. 9H Screenguard for the infotainment system
7. Ceramic Coating on the alloys (Though of painting it to black, however, I'd like to see how the current one stands out with the matt black finish)
8. Key covers

In the meantime, I just wanted to share a few pics of the vehicle at the time of the PDI which went well. (Thanks to @Black Panther for the detailed list provided.)

On the contrary, there are no orange accents, and no Chrome except for the window lining which isn't chrome. No chrome gives it a very elegant look

Welcome to the forum and heartiest congratulations on your new car!

The all black exterior treatment with the sage green interior is the best looking combo in the segment. Look forward to seeing more pictures.

Black matte PPF has come to our mind too a few times but not sure how it would come out. Please do share your experience.

Re: 2023 Kia Seltos Facelift Review

Hi All
I am currently using 2014 model Honda Amaze VX Diesel. Planning to change my car due to the 10 year Diesel engine policy in Delhi. I still have ~8 months with the car, so not in a huge hurry right now.
Looking to get a vehicle from the mid-size SUV segment, with my shortlist of 3 cars being Seltos, Creta and Grand Vitara.
I don't have much running with my car, so looking forward to a Petrol variant. Wanted suggestions on which car should I choose. Here is my preference order list:
1. Kia Seltos
The facelift Seltos looks pretty cool to me. And other features etc are pretty similar to Creta. The only concern in this car what I see is the mileage. My cousin owns the 2022 seltos and shares that in Delhi traffic he gets around 8-10 kmpl only (MT petrol). I was looking towards HTX+ model, but since the introduction of Gravity variant, which is basically HTX+, without the iVT/Turbo Petrol, but Manual Transmission and normal Petrol Engine, I think that is my favourite now. Also because of the ~2 Lacs difference.
2. Hyundai Creta
To be Honest, I seriously dislike the 2024 Creta facelift design. 2022 facelift was pretty good, but 2024 facelift looks a lot like Venue. Apart from that, I don't think there is much difference between Seltos and Creta in terms of features/engine/mileage.
3. Grand Vitara
Grand Vitara looks quite classy and gives serious looks from the outside, which I like. I might as well rank Grand Vitara over Seltos, but the only reason I am putting it on number 3 is the lack of modern interiors which Seltos and Creta are giving. Although I am looking forward to some facelift version in beginning of 2025, but until and unless Suzuki provides good interiors similar to Seltos and Creta, this will remain low on priority for me. If they provide, I think it will be Seltos vs Grand Vitara for me.

Some other points from my Observation:
Mileage: From Mileage perspective, I believe Grand Vitara > Seltos = Creta ? And that too with huge margin I believe. That is another reason I am inclined towards Grand Vitara
Build Quality: Suzuki is famous for low quality builds for the body. Do other's provide a better build quality or is it similar ?
Engine: Given all three cars would have similar engine, will a shift from Amaze Diesel (1500cc engine) feel like a downgrade in terms of performance ? I really like the pickup power and acceleration speed of my car to be honest.
Manual vs Automatic: I've read a lot about the DCT overheating issues these cars are getting on this forum. Have people faced overheating issues in Delhi Traffic ? That's a big reason I am lesser interested in getting an automatic car.
Cost of the Car: Following up on Manual vs Automatic, I compared in Seltos the Gravity/HTX+ variant vs GTX+ variant. I know it provides ADAS, but considering ~16.5L for Gravity and ~20.5L for GTX+, 4 Lac difference, with the main feature difference being ADAS and DCT, is feeling a bit expensive to me.

I also looked at some other cars too.
Toyota Hyryder - Pretty similar to Grand Vitara, but I am not sure if Toyota's maintainance charges and all are on the higher side.
Suzuki Fronx - The looks are killer, but at the end, it's a smaller car. (In the Venue/Sonet segment)

This is my exepriance with Seltos GTX+ DCT

Mileage: I get 10kmpl in bumper to bumper Bengaluru traffic. 13-16 on highways depending upon how aggressive I drive.

Build Quality: Build quality is quite good but no ncap test on facelift version. Kia and Hyundai claim they have reinforced the BIW but jury on that one.

Engine: 1.5 turbo is a refined engine. I'm coming from Polo diesel and I quite enjoy the grunt and smoothness it offers.

Manual vs Automatic: This is the first automatic for me and I'm never going back to manual. It is just 100 times easier to drive in hectic traffic.

Cost of the Car: If you feel GTX+ cost is prohibitive then consider IVT. I thought I wouldn't use any ADAS but now I'm very happy with decision to buy the GTX+ DCT varient and I'm using almost all adas features, They are quite handy.

10kmpl in Bengaluru traffic is nice, that too on Automatic. Did you face DCT overheating issues, which many other people have faced ?

Yeah automatic is definitely easier, but I also want to keep the cost under check.

I have not read any DCT heating issues, post the facelift, in the Seltos, Creta and Verna TBHP threads (I may be wrong though). ISG mostly takes care of that and one can put the gear in N or P if the stoppage in traffic is long. My one year experience with GTX+ DCT also confirms that although I mostly use auto hold feature (God sent).

If you could have IVT within your budget, go for that. For city drives, nothing better than an automatic. It makes the driving less tiresome as no repeated declutching, break, accelerator inputs are required, especially in crawling traffic conditions.

Would strongly recommend IVT (Creta or Seltos, both are same cars) for you even if you get a few less 'features' for that model.

I have never faced an overheating issue with DCT. While I was doing research before purchasing the facelift, I didn't come across anyone facing the same. They have pretty much sorted it out, I think.

There is 40,000 Exchange Bonus and 20,000 Loyalty Bonus on offer by Kia on KIA SELTOS.
However, I am confused between KIA SELTOS HTK + IVT and CRETA S(O) IVT. Both are being offered nearly at the same price.
I am more inclined towards CRETA S(O) IVT as its value for money, comes with 17 inches alloys and the cabin looks airy in Creta.

15k is standard discount being offered coupled with the free extended warranty, however, after a lot of haggling I was able to push it further. The max the dealer can do is 22-25k w/o insurance.

Some states are offering comprehensive insurance for free as well, sans zero Dep and add-ons (Eg., Delhi)

Bangalore dealers are giving a discount of 1.2 lakhs flat. That includes the free extended warranty.

I’d prefer the Creta. I was planning to buy the Seltos diesel AT and took test drives of both diesel and petrol. Having owned the Creta diesel AT 2021 model before, I did not like the suspension setup on the seltos at all. The 17” models have firmer suspension where you’ll feel the thuds from the potholes and the patched up roads. The ride was worse in the car with the 18” wheels. The Creta rides much better. The Creta even feels airier and more spacious. Somehow the seltos feels crammed for room (could be the colour combination used in the cabin).

Take a long test drive on both the vehicles (with seltos you can take a drive on the HTX variant as they have 17” wheels) and then decide. You can even try out the Honda Elevate, as the ride quality is better than the two Korean cars.

I have taken test drives of all the mid size SUVs available in the market in the range of 10 lakhs to 22 lakhs. Today evening I drive the Kia Seltos HTX IVT variant and I can conclude very easily that the CRETA wins the contest as far as the ride quality is concerned. The overall aesthetics, color, look and feel of the Creta is more premium.

Also, the seats of Creta are wider and offer better under-thigh support than all the cars available in this segment. Elevate is too noisy and Honda has messed up with the NVH big time with this car.

Overall, if I have to rate the Cars, in this segment,
No. 1 Creta (Beautiful interiors, Best seats in the segment, Creta offers one of the BEST Ride and Comfort (after Citroen), Low NVH, Smooth Engine. That is why it's called the KING of this segment)
No. 2 VW Taigun 1.5 DSG (Top notch Engine, Ride and Handling is superb, Dealership and Service Centers lack Customer Sense, They asked me to wait for 1 month for my preferred variant while major chunk of their cars unsold)
No. 3 Venue N Line N6 (Best car under 15 lakhs in India. Rejected it only because of its black interiors)
No. 4 Citroen Basalt (Offers the best ride comfort, beats Creta also. However lack of Driver seat comfort, offers very less under-thigh support for driver)
No. 5 Kia Seltos (Lacks sense of roominess, Stiff Ride, so rejected it)
No. 6 Toyota Hyryder Hybrid (Engine from Toyota and rest everything from Maruti, Seats are tiny for my liking, No alloys in 19 Lakh onroad S Hybrid)
No. 7 Kia Sonet 1.0 DCT (Car is very good but lacks space at the back)
No. 8 Honda Elevate (I found it less refined, stressed and noisy even in city speeds)

Note: Tata & Mahindra is not in the list since I prefer peace of mind and fuss free ownership. After Sales and Rust in their cars is the reason, I had crossed Tata and Mahindra. Although I took a test drive of XUV 3XO and found its driver seats to be tiny and uncomfortable for the back. XUV 700 was not considered because I already own a TOYOTA INNOVA HYCROSS HYBRID.
Maruti Suzuki has same engines in all its cars, so I did not even consider any Maruti car in my Comparison.
