Sharing an experience on my 2024 Swift AGS, after having driven almost 400kms
1. Ride Quality. As stated before, exceptional ride quality. Previous Maruti models that we had in our family (Omni 1997, WagonR 2010, AltoK10 2014, Swift 2014, Ignis 2018); these cars used to feel a bit flimsy when driven around bad patches and the suspension used to give a huge thud sound along with being very stiff and uncomfortable as well. With this one, it has an SUVish feel and glides over potholes comfortably. I’m not slowing down over bad road surfaces and the ride remains comfortable. Also, front seats are excellent, but I miss ventilated seats from Seltos.
2. Steering. One of the major worries I had was steering, as leaving aside our old Swift, literally none of the newer Marutis had a good steering. Ignis being the worst I had owned with a steering; which always made me regret about the buying decision. With the new Swift, I’m happy to report that the steering is really fun again. The front end is really pointy; steering has a decent heft and completely returns to centre while taking any turns; although Seltos has a stronger return to centre action.
3. Features. Or rather the lack of it. Decently kitted enough, however, camera should have been better, and what I really miss is an arm-rest (which I never missed in the previous SWIFTs). The driving ergonomics in this generation has changed considerably compared to previous SWIFTs. This one feels as I stated before, more SUVish; I can actually see the bonnet end; the seating posture is like a tall boy; and for a tall person like me; I actually prefer this. Rest touch screen response is excellent, wireless charging is good; orange ambient lighting is excellent; I love the MID, manual dials. AC performance is awesome as well.
4. Lighting. The interior lighting is good and I specially like the orange ambient lighting at the front. Coming to headlights. The projector LEDs along with LED fogs perform exceptionally well. In certain situations, I find this setup much better than the LEDs on my Seltos as well.
5. AMT. I never had an extensive experience with AMT; just the TD ones. So, I know it’s meaningless to compare it with a TC. But that’s what I usually drive. Coming to the gearbox, I can feel all shifts whether it’s an upshift or a down. 1st to 2nd gear is highly noticeable. However, the manual mode is really fun. The major USP of this setup that I’ve experienced is very good mileage. But I’ll still reserve my comments till I calculate it using the tankful method.
6. Engine. While I do understand the negativity around it. I’ll try to give my limited experience here. So the engine is really smooth and refined. If you’re sitting on idle with all windows closed, you might even think that the car has turned off. With the AMT, the car pulls off cleanly without any vibrations using the creep mode. Also, having experienced K12C in the latest BS6.2 avatar, what this engine gains mostly is the low end torque. In gear acceleration is actually very good, and overtaking using the manual mode is quite easy. The engine note however is very different compared to what we were adjusted to before. Overall a decent engine with good mileage but a wrong gearbox. This one actually deserved their TC.
So this was a brief summary of my experience so far. Will keep on updating as the journey moves on.
PS: I have driven all previous 3 generations of SWIFT extensively ; having owned all 3 within our family.
