TIA and great choice for Rims..
The short answer is higher power and better NVH. I could afford the lower FE of the petrol with my use case scenario with an average of 7K running per year especially since this purchase was a "want" and not a "need" decision. The MID currently shows an average of 6.3 KMpL with 250KM of city (not completely bumper to bumper) running. Will update with tankful method once I refill.

More than the under thigh support, the lack of lumbar support is an issue. I haven't found a proper seating position which doesn't strain my back.

I paid around 32K for a five year package. There are few reasons I opted for ceramic over PPF. I wanted something which was (relatively) low maintenance. The self healing properties of PPF will not last if the proper washing techniques are not followed. Since ceramic coating package has 3 top ups in 5 year period, it should take care of the swirl marks and scratches accumulated due to incorrect washing. I wasn't particularly concerned about protecting from scratches from minor bumps. And ceramic coating is much cheaper.

There is a tube housing the rear camera, and the spare wheel goes around it. There are couple of videos on youtube showing them, but will definitely share the pics.

Needless to say, you won't be trusting your insta-famous neighbourhood accessories shop to reupholster your seats after reading this.

I will now be looking into dyeing the leatherette.
The video just showcases what an OEM part does. It is simple effective.

I have a 2009 Swift VDI with original OEM fabric seats. A cigarette butt dropped on the seat does not cause a hole or burn for a certian number of seconds, this is from personal experience. Every part has a regulation which the manufacturer has to adhere to, the airbag is more complex than a fabric. Ideal to retain it the way it is and live with it.

Even in Airlines ( Been in aviation for 19 years) every single material needs to stand the burn test for 90 seconds. The point is evacuation using 50% exits in 90 seconds.

Similar regulations exist for Automobiles, which is where the development of a new automobile costs a humongous amount of money.

No local product will be able to match an OEM spec since there is no control over it.

Sharing two images, 2.2 lakhs on the odo, 15 years, have a look at the fabric on the passenger seat, and on the driver side door pad. Apologies for the poor quality of images, this is what I readily had.

Even I'm awaiting my AX7L, with a delivery time which does not make sense. But I have made peace with the fact, i think it's time everyone did too...

Rear disc brakes are available only on MX5 Petrol AT and MX5 Diesel 4x4 AT. The car in picture is MX5 diesel RWD as I have seen showroom display MX5 diesel RWD with rear drum brakes.

Feedback on White Interiors-Roxx?

Since there are these consistent conversations on the white interiors, wanted to understand

a) from those who have received delivery of their Roxx : how easy or difficult is it to maintain.

b) In General: though the XUV700 seems to have white interiors too, haven’t heard a lot of discussions around that, so does anyone know what the difference between the interiors in XUV700 & the Roxx is? Is it the shade or the materials used which are causing concerns?

I ask this, since I have been driving a Jeep Compass for the last 7 years, it has white interiors; and yes you need to clean it periodically, but have faced no major challenges in maintaining it.

I am torn between White interiors and the Mocha Brown and hence the question.

There is difference in white seat material of Thar Roxx as compared to XUV700. The material on Thar Roxx seems to be softer as compared to the in XUV700. The color used in Thar Roxx is whiter while the one in XUV700 is slightly off white/pale white as per my perspective.

The white interiors of XUV700 test drive and display cars also get dirty as those cars not maintained by dealerships well. The XUV700 that I have seen with dirty interiors were more than 6 months old, yet they were not as dirty as one month old Thar Roxx.

Rear disc brake is available in "all" Petrol AT variants which includes the MX3 Petrol AT 2WD. Petrol AT being offered in the highest state of tune + rear disc brake availability in MX3 Petrol is what made me book this variant as found it excellent VFM.

I want to know if Mahindra offers OEM seat covers as replacement parts in case you damage your seat fabric. If thats the case then wait for the mocha brown interiors and get the current ones replaced in the workshop. It will be an expensive upgrade but it will be totally worth it in my opinion.

Mahindra Thar Roxx waiting period stretches to 2026

The waiting period for the Mahindra Thar Roxx now stretches to 2026. According to the carmaker, customers who book the Thar Roxx can expect deliveries in the next 9 to 15 months, depending on the variant.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-2024_mahindra_tharroxx_exterior_26.jpg

The Thar Roxx was launched in August this year. More than 1.76 lakh vehicles were booked within the first hour following the opening of bookings. As production capacity is currently limited to 9,500 units per month, Mahindra has a huge order backlog for the Thar Roxx.

To cater to the demand, Mahindra plans to increase total production capacity gradually. In the second phase, Thar production could be boosted to 11,000 units per month.

The Thar Roxx is the 5-door version of the standard Thar. The SUV is available with either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both engines are offered with a choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is available on the diesel variants.

Aah! We're back in this 'rat-hole' of 'waiting periods'.

At one end of the spectrum, we have news about the building inventory of unsold cars and on the other there is this.

Anyway, I am not too surprised with this news though and expected the M&M's marketing team to play this ploy.

Needless to say, we have many BHPains reporting their vehicle deliveries within a month or 2 of bookings. So this news can be taken with a huge chunk of salt.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

At what point do we acknowledge that this is simply a strategy to create hype?

While there may indeed be limitations in production capacity, in today’s planning scenarios, it seems more likely an attempt to create artificial demand and leverage FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) to upsell higher car models. This is not a handmade car, and the quality processes are certainly not so rigorous that Mahindra would need this much time to deliver it.

It appears various tactics are being employed to ensure that customers:
  • refrain from demanding discounts, thereby keeping margins high
  • pressure suppliers to provide discounts on parts
  • opt for the next available model (typically a higher model)
  • allow the manufacturer to influence color choice
  • keep shareholders happy by showing massive bookings for the next 3-5 quarters

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

What I find amusing is that even though the company is stating such long waiting periods, the Dealer in Bengaluru was ready to give me all the variants except the AX7L 4WD within a week if I was ready to compromise on the colour

I highly doubt whether these waiting periods are genuine or have been inflated just to create a hype about the vehicle.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I took the test drive of ROXX last week. The dealer was ready to get most of the variants except the AX7L 4*4 (The top end ) within 2 weeks.
He said most of them who had booked the mid variants have moved their booking to top end after the price announcements. If I remember correctly, the MX-x (Don't remember the number 3/5 2WD) was readily available in white & red.

That's the funny part. AX7L was the most booked variant and M&M is relentlessly supplying MX5, clearly seems like shortage of some key parts for the top variant or maybe some R&D testing was still pending before mass production.

I don't think the waiting periods will stay as high as they seem currently. The car clearly has practical limitations and when it is in Scorpio and XUV price territory now, most single car owners will eventually walk out of the showroom with a Scorpio/XUV.

It is the same state in Hyderabad also. The dealerships have some MX5 stock readily available. I reached out to 2 different dealerships, and both were ready to give me MX5 RWD as it was available in their stock. AX5L has limited availability in Hyderabad and AX7L is rare.
Looks like Mahindra has manufactured more MX5 probably due to higher profit margins (like Scorpio-N Z8L during launch time) or anticipating more MX5 bookings which did not happen.
