Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I took my Thar AX7 AT 4x4 for a short spin last night, and it really grabs attention!
I even heard people pointing out, "New Thar, New Thar!"

Earlier, the dealership provided a demo at home, explaining all the features and use cases. The representative was very knowledgeable, addressed all my questions, and gave full marks for the experience!
Two issues surfaced during the demo:
- First, my secondary phone disconnects from wireless Android Auto when I start Google Maps navigation, though the rep's phone worked perfectly. CarPlay isn’t available yet.
- Second, the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) displays US metrics when set to UK and vice versa, but this issue is limited to tire pressure—the rest of the settings work fine.

Driving the Thar gave me a better understanding of the vehicle:
- It’s easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces. The large mirrors are a big help, and the steering is effortless but nicely weighted.
- The power is more than adequate for me; I didn’t push it beyond 80-85 km/h.
- The 360-degree cameras and forward/rear collision warnings are a boon, although the warnings can bother passengers.
- The car feels spacious and airy inside, with white interiors and a panoramic sunroof. Two people with claustrophobia who had issues in previous cars loved sitting in the rear.
- Adaptive cruise control and lane assist work like a charm—fun to show off, though with caution, as the car warns after a few seconds if your hands are off the steering wheel.
- The ride is a bit busy at low speeds—not as plush as the Creta, Seltos, XUV700, or Safari, but better than the Scorpio. You do feel the road.

I’m loving the Beast! Still haven’t finalized the name, but my wife has suggested White Panda or Polar Bear.

Both are good, fog lamps come on even when they are off and you are taking right or left turn.

I choose to keep everything on Auto for now.

Would rate them 8.5/10

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

We drove our Roxx from Bangalore to Kanyakumari, covering a total of 2000+ kms. Ours is Diesel Automatic top variant. People called it as Jeep. The car was a head turner. We saw only one Roxx on the road during our entire trip. The car was fun and easy to drive. I only had issues with the mileage. Onward journey from Bangalore, we got an average mileage of 14. In and around Kanyakumari and Tuticorin, the mileage was 10 on average. Dont know if it is due to the quality of diesel in the southern part.

The drive was super and safe too. The automatic emergency brake worked well, saved me in 2 occations where the vechicle in froint applied sudden brake at high speed.

Is there any place where I can check the status of my booking which shows the tentative delivery date? I used the chat window on the mahindra website and the agent told me that the only way to check is to call the dealer. I just booked a Roxx AXL7 D AT 4x4 , thus trying to find out what next .Thanks for your response.

I think there are None. Even I had booked with a dealer in November but still haven’t got any Mail which says the Tentative Delivery date. Got a PDF booking booklet from dealer side & that said 48 weeks..!

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Got my MX1 Diesel 2WD MT delivered today

To be honest, between my other 2 cars, I don't really have any real requirement for it, but driving it is such a different experience that I just wanted to have one. I had booked it within the first couple of minutes when the bookings opened, and had little hope of it actually being delivered in a reasonable timeframe, because of it being the base model. But Mahindra actually came through and delivered the vehicle pretty much when I was initially promised delivery.

Why the MX1 D MT?

1) Wanted the MT experience - had been driving Automatics only for some time now.
2) Fully loaded on the safety front with 6 airbags, ESC etc.
3) Height adjustable seats, and tilt adjustment for steering

Honestly, that's enough for me. Don't need any fancy gizmos or ADAS.
The only thing missing for me is reverse camera, which can be fitted pretty easily. So the VFM proposition for this MX1 variant is pretty off the charts.

Congratulations !!! The Roxx looks fantastic in Everest White. The Thar is completely an emotional purchase. Its not a car you need but a car you want.

Do you have any mods planned on your car?

Since you are in Mumbai, hope to bump into you with your beast with my white 3 door Thar Rex someday soon.

Happy miles

Since this happens only in extreme conditions, I am not paying much attention. Besides, I am already in love with that steel bumper. As soon as Proman can finish up the issue of radar calibration, I will go ahead.
Were you able to figure out a solution to this issue?

Thank you,
So true, yes it has shortcomings but the joy of driving outweighs them.

No Mods on my car, tend to keep car 10 yrs. So first few years will use it the way it is.

Would like to catch up and see how has it improved over 3door, (haven't driven the 3door)

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Does thar roxx 4x4 AX7L diesel manual with 150 hp be equivalent to 4x4 AX7L diesel AT with 172 hp?
As manual offer less power loss compared to Automatic gearbox.
What is the actual power at the wheels in both the models? i mean.
Has anyone dynoed both manual and At 4x4 AX7L models??

cost is a bigger consideration than compromise to safety and vehicle dynamics, then wheel spacers is the easiest and cheapest way of getting there.
If we look closely, especially the rear hubs, these are already protruding out, look at the distance from the discs. On the front, I have used 22mm and on the rear 30mm and these may not be any more different from an offset wheel. I tightened the spacer bolts using a Torque wrench and maintained difference - (145) vs wheel Bolts (90). Also used thread locker Loctite. I don't feel anything different but I went for this solution as the alloy wheel seller did not offered any other solution and I liked the wheel. If I notice any issues, I will probably buy another set later and move these to my colleagues Thar.

Rear Hub- Look how far is this from the disc, even without spacer. Either due to a wider bearing in the rear or to maintain the wide track?

22 mm spacer in front.
