Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I booked the Thar Roxx White AX7L 4X4 at a dealership in Delhi with on 5 October. The estimated delivery date mentioned was March-April 2026. Back in Oct-24, I was okay with it since I didnt want a 2024 model anyways.

Come Jan 2025 and I started getting anxious and checked with the dealer on the estimated delivery timelines and if they can arrange for the car sooner. They kept on insisting that they cant promise, but would try their best if there's any cancellation. In the meantime, I called up a few other dealerships who kept on insisting on the 72 week waiting period, but could be arranged in 4-6 months depending on the variant & color, only if they had a booking.

Come 18 Feb 2025 (nearly 4.5 months post booking date), I get a call from the dealer stating that my car is ready and I should pick it up asap. I was travelling so asked him for a few days to process things.
In the meantime, I checked with my bank for the loan, with my trusted insurance guy for the insurance etc and when I told the dealer that I am doing all of these on my own he said that he cant give me the car. He insisted that I take the loan, insurance & accessories from him or he cant give the car to me. The sales guy kept on saying that this decision is not in his control and he is being pushed by his superiors for the same.

I finally gave in since they matched my ROI on the loan and cost on the insurance, but I didnt agree for the accessories yet. (delivery is still a few days away, so bargaining this for a month end deal).

I was curious, so asked him how did he manage to get the delivery so soon (April 2026 vs Feb 2025), so he mentioned that the dealership also places certain parallel bookings (over and above the customer bookings) with Mahindra and the car he is alloting me is through that parallel booking. {Can someone confirm if this is true?}

One side of my brain tells me that this could be true and he is alloting me the car since would make some extra bucks on loan, insurance & accessories which he cant otherwise if the car is directly alloted by Mahindra.

While the spectical side of me wants to be extra cautious of any creativity done by the dealer (viz. alloting a used car by meter backing OR alloting a damaged car OR alloting someone else's car etc).

Can anyone in the team-bhp family confirm if this is normal and I shouldn't think too much or if there's something to be skeptical about and what could that be?

Any guidance would be very helpful as I look forward to taking the delivery of the car by 28 February

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Thar Roxx – 1000 km Experience
Although I didn’t need a second car for the next 2-3 years, but a Spiti trip in my friend’s XUV300 made me fall for powerful engines and the joy of driving it brings. Started searching for a 4m+ SUV with strong power & torque figures while keeping Creta-like dimensions. Then came the Thar Roxx launch—I loved it and waited for booking day!

On Oct 3rd, 11 AM, I booked two Black MX3 PATs, but soon realized White was the one—elegant, soothing, and easy to maintain. After multiple dealer follow-ups for the white variant, I finally got one (customer cancelled), delivered in 10 days. Had to pay for accessories though.

Major Upgrades:
Five 18-inch OE alloys – ₹70K (dealer) discounted price
Tata AIG Top-tier insurance – ₹46K (self-bought)
Installed Ceat CrossDrive AT tyres "price adjusted" with Ceat HT tyres – ₹12.5K (Karol Bagh)
Fog lamps 150w, Dashcam qubo 4k dual, Parking sensors OE - 30k approx(dealer)

Few Highlights of car:
White looks bigger & more premium
Smooth handling, light steering, great visibility
Morning start. Raring to go in D mode
Effortless overtakes, seamless auto gear shifts
Long drives—zero fatigue for driver, slight discomfort for rear passengers
Braking is excellent—85 to 0 in 2-3 secs
Mileage ~9-10 km/l (70% highway, 30% city)

Most likely the car being offered is a booking cancellation after invoicing by dealer. Dealers are cashing in at the moment by insisting on mandatory accessories worth 80K-1L and insurance via them.

This is most likely untrue, the SA is just telling you what he thinks you want to hear. Either way shouldn't affect the transaction.

This is highly unlikely, it is likely a cancellation by the original allottee. You can always do a PDI to alleviate your fears/ concerns. I used PDIBoss.

I had booked on October 3 at 11.01 but my dealer was playing tricks on me, likely allotted the car to another, raised a concern via Mahindra but they kept redirecting to dealer who was no help. Got frustrated and cancelled my original booking.
Took a month to re-evaluate other options, reverted to my original decision of AX7L P AT. Paid 40K to the enabler and accessories/ insurance via dealer for ready delivery. Car had landed a day earlier at the lot. Reps admitted dealer has flexibility to sell invoiced cars to anyone they want, online bookings or not.

In my opinion, go ahead if the T&C of the transaction sit well with you. Good luck.

There are quite a few cancellations, which the dealer can offer to you. Once the vehicle is allotted, please ask for the VIN number, and if you can go to the dealership personally (any MM dealer) - you can have them look up the VIN on MM systems to clear your doubts around dispatch, tracking, invoicing, usage etc..

My booking experience and sequence with one of the larger BLR based M&M dealers went something like this.

Booked Online on 3rd > Oct end I believe, received a mail with probable 2025 Jan-Feb delivery dates > Dealer CRM contacted me first week of Nov > First week of Dec he shares a list (VIN, Spec, Color) of around 8 Roxx vehicles available immediately (My variant was not there, so refused) > Last week of Jan got a call from CRM that vehicle is dispatched, I asked and was provided the VIN > Feb 1st week- Vehicle invoiced, Payment Completed, PDI + Registration, Delivery Done in a week.

Except mudflaps for 1599/-, did not spend anything extra (They politely requested to go for accessories pack, but there was absolutely no push). Insurance was also taken from outside. By mistake, I had transferred around 50k more, which took a week to refund. While taking delivery, 12 or 13 kms total on the odo.

Adrenox worked for a day, then stopped. Also mappls was showing no license found. Spoke to the service folks, unplugged and plugged back the battery connections after 10mts, both started behaving. Tyre psi was around 36, got it lowered to 32psi.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Strange issue on my AX7PAT. The infotainment doesn’t show any network signal and due to this unable to use Adrenox features, in-built navigation etc. Restarting car it using power button on infotainment to restart it is not helping. Have driven around all across Delhi hence no signal in a particular area is also ruled out.
Any suggestions?

Try unplugging the battery connections and plugging again after 10 minutes. A member who faced similar issues was told to attempt this by the service centre.

I believe adrenox is provisioned on Vodafone, and coverage at most places is just pathetic. Battery connection plug out/in is the recommended cure. If that doesn't work, what I heard was the software will be updated, which requires a visit to SC.

I am facing connectivity issues with Vodaphone SIM in Bangalore as well. Is it possible to change the Vodaphone eSIM to Airtel?

Not possible. BLR connectivity is better compared to outside areas / rural.

Car manufacturers have taken customers for granted by locking in SIM provider with the provider car makers want. This is not good practice as the SIM can’t be changed by customer like car tyre which can be changed outside.

My feedback after test drives for cars with connected tech is to let customers choose their provider. If more people this feedback may be customers will get an option to select SIM provider in the future.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I have a 2019 Creta 1.6 diesel manual, covered around 66000km, in perfect showroom condition, driven mostly on the highway, long drives stretching upto 8-10 hours sometimes, but due to increasing traffic even in the smaller towns, wanted to change to an automatic. Booked the Thar Roxx AX7L battleship grey, 4x4, with mocha brown interior, online on 3rd October 2024, the expected date of delivery, as given by Mahindra, is 3rd June to 3rd July, 2025. Have taken multiple test drives, but for small distances of 5-7km, the driver seat comfort of the Thar Roxx does not appear to be as good as the Creta, for a 6 footer. The seats appear to be smaller even than the Creta, the footwell is narrower, I was not able to achieve a comfortable driving position, when I try to make my legs comfortable by moving the seat backwards, the steering becomes too far (no reach/telescopic adjustment), and when I try to keep the steering at a comfortable distance, the comfort of the legs is gone. I am in a dilemma whether to keep the booking or cancel it. A query for those having driven Thar Roxx and Creta/Seltos, how is the comfort of the Roxx compared to the Korean duo, specially on long drives. Looking for response from the owners as well as the senior Bhpians, thanks in advance.

Is the difference in the design of the front and rear brakes applicable across all models? Since I have the MX3 version (has rear disc brake too), I'm wondering if the front and rear might have the same design? Also, I'm assuming you meant 32 mm and 22 mm? Or is it 25 mm? Please confirm.
