Excellent news and course correction! But delivery is Jan 25 which is 3 months away, so even if you get booking allocation for October if one needs new colour, will have to wait

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Ohh .... that's amazing. But only 4x4 :(. I raised my booking through my company for a 4x2. A change means a bunch of paper work!

I really hope they offer this color as an option for AX7L RWD, atleast with the AT. And then the ~3 months until Jan'25 or further.
Sigh.

They were gauging would be wrong to say, they had clearly taken a design decision of going white by their Design and Product head, this white theme seems to have creeped in late in product testing phase. The fact that almost all reviewers (specially those who opted for driving Thar from Kochi) pointing out interiors getting soiled along with evidences to back it and numerous social media handles calling it out after seeing it in person made them revisit their decision. This can also be proved from other fact that Mocha Brown will be available only on 4x4 and deliveries will be made only after Jan 2025. This timeframe is to sort out their logistics with seats supplier. This would also push potential 4x4 customers in dilemma on seat choice and longer delivery times. Interesting to see if 4x2 customer converts booking to 4x4 just to get Mocha Brown interiors.

Anyways, Mahindra acting on feedback is good sign.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I am planning to book AX5L RWD. This seat colour saga has really left me confused.

- Is there a difference in the seat material of AX5L and AX7L? If yes, does it result in one being better in keeping/staying clean?
- I know it will be a problem but how bad it will be? Will it be manageable with once-in-a-fortnight cleaning or it will end up being an everyday regret?

I do and that's why I was surprised to see white. I think even one mule carried mocha.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Managed to finally get a test drive of the Thar Roxx and see it in detail in person. Also, since the Hyundai showroom was next door, I took a back-to-back test drive of the Creta and the Roxx. It was my first time driving both vehicles.

Here are my impressions.

Thar Roxx first impressions -
  • Looks - The test drive vehicle was AX7L in Diesel Manual in white color.
While the front of the Thar Roxx looked impressive, the side profile and the rear profile looked off when compared to the Thar 3 door. In fact, the side profile of the Roxx in white reminded me of the dilapidated Mahindra Commanders doing duty as ambulances in rural India.
    Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-screenshot-20241001-220813.jpg

I would say that the 3 door Thar is easily more proportionate and good looking than the Roxx, barring the ugly grille.

Potential Thar Roxx owners should get the Thar Roxx in a dark shade.

  • White interiors - Again, as others have noted, this was already quite dirty at the seat and at the roof lining near the grab handles.

  • Test drive - I have only once driven a rental Thar 3 door extensively, which was during a visit to Goa a couple of months back. The 5 door rode and drove very similar in my opinion. I know this might not be accurate, but this is what I felt. This could be down to the fact that the Thars (both 3 door and 5 door) ride and handle very differently from the SX4 and Ertiga that I have.

  • Ergonomics - The ergonomics were mildly off in the drivers seat. Not sure why or what was wrong. For reference, I am 5'10".

  • Backseat - This for me was the star. I asked the Sales Advisor to drive while I took a backseat with the Sunroof glass closed but the shades open.
(I do this with all test drives to assess what my family will feel).

With the seat reclined all the way back, it really felt special. Not many people talk about this, but for me this was the highlight of the test drive.

Creta first impressions -
  • Looks - Compared to the Thar, the Creta offered a very ordinary, non-special, modern and non-offensive visual. I doubt anyone would buy it for the looks. The Thar Roxx is infinitely better in this regard.

  • Interiors - This is where the Creta changes things drastically - everything looks modern with good finish compared to the Roxx - which still somehow looks as if it was put together rather than cohesively designed like the Creta.

  • Test drive - The Creta easily drives better than the Roxx, everything falls better to reach and the Creta is easily the more sorted product. Also, interestingly, I could also see the bonnet from the driver's seat as one can on the Thar Roxx.

  • Ride quality - The Creta is better than the Roxx, but I didn't feel that the margin was huge.

  • Back seat - As with the Thar Roxx, I sat at the backseat for half of the test drive. This is where the Thar Roxx easily wins - the Creta's back seat doesn't have the incline or the view of Thar Roxx's magnificently large sunroof. It didn't feel that special. Maybe I need to compare it to the Hyundai Alcazar's which has a bigger sunroof, which unfortunately the dealer didn't yet have for a test drive.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hey, does anyone know that while one is registering as an individual, when the time comes, does M&M allow you to buy the car under lease (company name) or it will strictly follow the PAN card name? Are folks uploading company cards now who intend to buy it on lease?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I believe they decided to give options of both brown and ivory initially itself and done only the ivory interior for first lot intentionally knowing that it will be bashed by all down the line. They very well know that there are many people who have already experienced 3 door Thar, felt it small for their use case and are impatiently waiting for the "bigger" Thar . For those, white interior may give a big, non-claustrophobic cabin feel and once that feeling is imbibed, they planned to announce the darker shade. I think they will give darker options by mid 2025 in all variants. Anyways it's a welcome move by them.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Has anyone been able to see a Battleship Grey color in person? Most of the YouTube videos compare it to a shade offered by BMW. How close is it? I am confused between white and grey. I would have liked to see it in person, but I couldn't find it at any dealer in Pune.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Is the Thar ROXX not doing well? Assuming Mahindra was expecting to sell 5000 a month, a 3 month waiting isn't something to brag about really. These guys have not mentioned the exact number of booking anywhere in the press release.

https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-n...ings-33263.htm

Compare this to the press release in May 2024 when Mahindra bragged about 86000 open booking for ScorpioN and 59000 booking for Thar.

I had enquired about the THAR ROXX, the moment it was launched @12.99Lakhs, with features like six airbags, push start/stop button, LED headlights, touchscreen etc as standard. Being a Scorpio-N owner since Jan 2024 and almost a fan of Mahindra now, I wanted to see Mahindra's latest product and specially the base variant. Anyway, as usual you cannot find a base variant of car around the launch time, so we will need to wait for the deliveries to begin. I was not able to find any YouTube videos for the MX1 variant, so it is surely not seen by anyone, except Anand Mahindra I believe (sorry for the PJ).

I finally got a call from the Mahindra showroom, in Sanath Nagar, Hyderabad, stating that they have a DISPLAY and a TEST DRIVE Vehicle available. It is very near to my place, so in 15 mins, I was inside the showroom. I was expecting a large crowd, but to my surprise the showroom was empty. Hmm, where are the THAR lovers of Hyderabad?, was my next thought. Anyway, so coming to the ROXX. It does have a presence and you can feel it when you are near it. It is surely big, not “Big DADDY” big, but people surely stand aside when they see it coming. In my opinion, it does look good from most angles, but not all. The MX5 D AT 4X2 (Red) variant was the Display vehicle and the top trim AX7L D AT 4X4 (Black) was the Test drive vehicle. Not sure why(40+ memory issues creeping in), I didn’t click any photos, but thankfully, at least I took a casual walk around video of both the vehicles.

Test drive
A very nice sales lady, more like a young girl was kind enough to accompany me for the test drive. Well, the ROXX surely looks more plush and sophisticated compared to the Scorpio-N, thanks to the sky-roof, digital cluster, bigger touch-screen and the white leather seats. I was only allowed a short test drive, so it came to an end sooner than I could digest the drive feel, but I was impressed by the refinement levels of the engine, cabin insulation and smooth transmission. THAR and THAR ROXX seem to be two different cars.
My only dislike was the shakes and jolts that I was able to feel in an almost smooth road. My Scorpio-N’s ride has a magic carpet feel which I really love. I am not sure, if this was the issue with that specific demo car or the suspension is tuned that way. It can also be that the tyre pressure was high.

Verdict
ROXX feels like a slam dunk to the entire front wheel mid-sized SUV segment. Another good product from Mahindra, who are the Number one SUV manufacturers of India, in my view. I have also posted the videos of both the SUVs(MX5 and AX7L) on youtube, so if you want to see the two beasts through my eyes, and to find who should buy the THAR ROXX?, please do have a look. The white beast(Scorpio-N) that you see in the background is my personal beast(will write a 10k kms ownership review soon).

Yes seen it. I thought it looked a shade or two darker than what I would have really liked. I don't exactly remember the bmw colour but clearly remember the skoda superb grey, which is lighter and classier than this. However, this is still nice and different.

This shade's premium look is heavily dependent on gloss, which will have to be maintained well.

It is still my choice, so far.
