Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hi, Congratulations on booking your Thar ROXX! We're glad to have you onboard. Your booking details: AX5L D AT 4WD in , Booking Ref No: **********. We will let you know your waiting period latest by 25th Oct'24. We've also emailed you these details. T&C Apply. Team Mahindra.

I booked mine straight via the dealership, when I tried doing it online my payment got stuck, it is quite evident that a lot of people were crowding up to book the Roxx, waiting periods stretching upto 6 months would be the norm, what is also interesting to note is dealerships are already pushing Mahindra finance, all i can see is the same story with Hycross, dealerships will push for finance, accessories and insurances, deliveries would be given to those who would go for these which are a major earning source for dealerships.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I had checked out the Roxx at the dealership a week back and the test drive was a joke. They only had the diesel variant to drive, and the test drive was 2 minute long, just around the block. The display variant was a MX5, so couldn't get a proper look at the AX7.

Either way, booked the AX7L 4X4 Diesel AT Battleship Grey in Mocha Int. and got confirmation of payment at 11:01 AM. The 3 month delay for this version will give me enough runway to do a proper test drive and hopefully an early niggles would be apparent.

Regarding the booking process, the whole process took about 60 seconds, so I'm hopeful this doesn't translate to a ridiculous wait time like 12 months or so. I just don't trust these dealers having dealt with the Hycross fiasco 2 years ago, where I booked it opening day and the dealer told me I was the 3rd person to book it and yet had to wait 18 months. The dealers only care about profit margins and whoever gives them more premium (via accessories etc.) gets priority.

I'm hoping Mahindra has a more streamlined process about waitlists and deliveries.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

We all know that this booking number is meaningless. Following the huge waitlists and large premiums at which the XUV700 and the original Thar were trading, anyone who is even considering a Thar Roxx remotely over the next 5 years would have booked one for optionality. Add those who made multiple bookings to see which car comes first and the inevitable speculators who book solely to resell the car, and the actual end user bookings are probably less than 25% of this number. That is borne out by how the waitlists on the XUV evaporated the moment the car became easily available.

Great free publicity for Mahindra though and helps convey the impression of success, which feeds into itself.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

If the numbers were actual 'will buy' bookings (they ain't) the 175,000th in line would probably need to give away the booking in their will.

Overall cancellations were around 10% in the earlier cases with XUV / ScorpioN etc as per their own admission, and I have been involved in buying many of those vehicles , so it was quite a task to get one within the first lot, even now demand is high and so is the sales. 7OO and N does not have much of a competition to speak of, that's not the case with ROXX.

This time around the booking numbers are solid however Mahindra themselves said that this segment ROXX is positioned against (Creta) , just like XUV3XO has many options for consumers to choose from. Having a big waiting period is not an advantage or something that would work for the vehicle.

Rajesh Jejurikar is once again betting an unconventional vehicle against all odds into a fiercely competitive segment. We have seen this earlier with original Scorpio where the vehicle was positioned against Esteem, Honda City etc .

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

As per the local dealer in Punjab, they have the stock ready for AX5 and MX5 variants and they will be starting the deliveries next week.

Contrary to Mahindra's past strategy, only handful AX7L variants have been received by the dealers. These will come in more numbers in coming months.

Strage to see Mahindra pushing the mid-variants first.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I wonder why they can't keep the variant names simple. What was wrong with "M1, M3, M5, M7" and "A1, A3, A5, A7"?

Imagine how easier it would be to just say A5. A5XL is quite a mouthful!

True, I think there was a detailed analysis back during the Scorpio-N duration on how cancellation amount vs wait worked out.

During our delivery of Scorpio-N I took no accessories, no insurance and other stuff from the Dealer just the car and the sales executive was not happy, he literally wanted me to cancel or get my booking cancelled somehow. I have observed Mahindra staff is rude and acts as if they are doing us a big service by delivering the car.

I also prefer Ivory as I have seen the vehicle and booked the same. My C-class has beige interiors and even after 5years, it looks fine with very minimal care. I guess I should be able to manage white color with some effort

For Micha Brown, will the roof liner, grab handles etc be the same Ivory colour or some other color? If it is a darker shade, it would be better.

Any idea if can modify our booking preferences like Exterior or Interior?

For those who booked on 3rd Oct, the option to modify booking was available until 4pm yesterday. Now, if you want to make any changes, you will need to proceed with a new booking.

Not sure about fresh bookings done on yesterday or today.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I visited the showroom on Friday, October 4th evening and paid the booking amount. I got an acknowledgement from dealer but looks like the same is not yet logged with Mahindra. I haven't got any mail communication.

In the meantime, I'm thinking about changing the name to my wife's name. We had sold her old car and the name change is in progress in RTO, so we can get an NCB letter and same can be used for new insurance with 50% NCB on Own Damage.

What I'm guessing is
1) The booking is not completed from Dealer side as my sales representative has been on leave due to some emergency and his colleague just took the booking amount and documents but it is not yet logged/registered. I guess it will happen only on Monday, October 7th.
If this is the case, I will inform the dealer to hold on and I will do the needful to change the name.
2) In the unlikely case of all the booking process is completed, can I get the vehicle registered at the time of purchase iny wife's name? I will check with the dealer and take call.
Anyone has any idea if registration can be done in spouse's name even though booking is done in own name ?
Thanks

Yes. Just provide the marriage certificate.

Mahindra is going through all these checks & balances to avoid fraudulent bookings for an in-demand vehicle. As long as the transfer of booking is to an immediate family member, it shouldn’t be a challenge.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I am planning to book one today at the dealership. Never wanted to book on the launch day as I am not looking for the first lot of cars, hence going to the dealership in person today and would be booking the AX7L D 4x4 White for an aimed delivery in early Jan. Based on the current feedback from the leadership, waiting periods are TBD and there's no clue by when the actual deliveries would happen.

Haven't told the dealership yet that I am not interested in any accessories or insurance or loan from them. I have my own vendors for these who would be providing these at much cheaper costs. Ex the insurance amount in dealerships woute is 1.4L for my model, whereas my agent who I have been working with for the last decade is offering the same for 45K (comparing apple to apple in terms of inclusion etc). Why should one buy insurance from the dealership knowing of such a huge difference.

I am from Delhi so also wondering how would the diesel ban pan out over the years for this car. I am thinking of registration in another location like Chandigarh or Bhopal or Haryana to easily dispose of the vehicle after 10 years rather than risk loosing its registration all together in Delhi.
Any suggestions on how to navigate this situation?
