On a ride back from Goa, the open roads nudged me to ride faster and voila, I found it way more comfortable. I could barely feel any of the road imperfections nor the expansion joints on NH48,
On the Roxx, I suppose we don't need to treat it with kid gloves and it in turn, treats us better!

People driving Monocoques will find BOFs uncomfortable for sure. The key is changing the way we drive. Currently I have a Gurkha which is my first BOF. Initially i used to drive it like any other car, which translated to lot of uncomfortable movements. Over the period of time I understood the below three aspects which hamper the ride quality:
1- Speed at which we tackle bad roads, BOfs love to be hammered over bad roads, they hate slow speeds. Of course, what speed one needs to maintain depends on the road condition and how much the suspension can handle.
2- Tyre air pressure, folks TDing the Roxx please check if the vehicle is running on recommended tyre pressure, higher pressure will translate to an uncomfortable ride quality.
3- Weights: BOFs love weights, they feel more composed when they are loaded. Perfect example is the Crysta. With 5-6 people on board with luggage, the Crysta is more or less stable and comfortable as a monocoque. Even my Gurkha is more comfortable when loaded.

People with a family (including aged parents) considering the ROXX as the primary vehicle, the Scorpio N will also be a good option considering ingress and egress.

My 10 cents, if you detest lateral movements, the XUV will fit your bill .

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I have a few questions about deciding (when) to book the new Thar.

I have taken the test drive and gone through the entire 60 pages of this thread. I currently drive a 3 Door Thar and is set to buy the new Thar Roxx in 2026 with a few questions in mind:

1. What are the odds of Mahindra launching Petrol 4 x 4 anytime in 2025?

2. What are the odds of Mahindra *fixing* the shortcomings and adding features such as under thigh support, better seat material à la XUV700, adding memory function to powered seats etc?

3. What are the odds of ALL initial bugs and niggles to be completely sorted out in 2026 manufactured units?

4. If one wishes to get the vehicle in Jan/Feb 2026, when would be the right time to place the booking?

Always follow what your heart says. I also have issues on my both knees. So does my wife. I also struggled initially to get in and out. but after 2-3 times it was easily possible. First climbed on the side step after grabbing the handle. Than on to the seat. Try it yourself.

I disagree with this, with all due respect. Heart driven decisions are seldom rational. When it comes to Thar, lets be honest, 99% of decisions will be driven by heart.

If there is a knee complication, best is to try many times, and still if the mind agrees, one should go for it.

That said, the car will be in huge demand so if at all, one changes mind after a few months, can get a buyer with minimal depreciation. So yes, this middle way between heart and mind can be taken. But do keep the mind involved!

1. I would say the odds of a Petrol 4X4 are pretty slim, given that it's not on offer for XUV700 and ScorpioN. I doubt they would offer it on the ROXX, given than except the Delhi NCR folks, nobody seems interested in Petrol engines.

2. Just give Karol Bagh a few weeks/months to come up with aftermarket solutions for these tweaks.

3. They've tested this car for over 2 years before releasing it, so I'm hoping there aren't too many deal-breaking bugs. That being said, it's pretty inexpensive to own a Thar (at least the 3DR version) and since you haven't booked one yet, you probably won't be in the initial cohort, so that ship has sailed either way.

Wait 6-12 months to book, get delivery in 6-12 months and you should probably factor in a couple of price hikes as well, or book now, hopefully save a few $$$ if you get your vehicle before they start jacking up rates and spend that in the aftermarket to get the accessories that float your boat. Good luck

Hard to compare as one is a proper, rugged BOF SUV while the other a sedan.
I owned the face-lifted version of first Gen (in India) Fortuner and it was a truck in every sense of the word - hydraulic (read heavy) steering, basic creature comforts etc. Coming to suspension and ride quality, that's the reason why we sold it in the first place - lot of body roll at low speeds. And while you could flatten anything at speed, the 2nd and 3rd row passengers would be thrown around quite a lot and hence complain of nausea.
Compared to that, the ROXX is a major step forward. Quality of interiors, feature set, effortless (yet accurate) steering, much better ride comfort. At a price today at which I bought the Fortuner 4*4 MT ( no 4*4AT then) in 2014.
But it's still a jeep / BOF and it comes down to one's use case. If one's adventures take them off tarmac, then consider a XUV700 (for soft roading) or Scorpio N (family tourer + off roading). To me, Roxx is for those who love the jeep form factor ( admit the design is great) and who cover short distances and/or have specific 4*4 use cases.
If one's cross country adventures will be mostly on tarmac with few bad bits, a good sedan or (definitely a) cross over would be best suited. I had several adventures in my Corolla Altis ( boring to drive but great suspension). Personally I would choose a sedan over a Crossover for the driving pleasure.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Anyone got hold of the delivery schedules? MX/AX5L and AX7L are being sold at a premium by some non-authorized dealers at a premium of ~2-2.5L. MX/AX5 variants are readily available and the AX7L variants will start from 15th October.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Took a short test drive of the Thar AX7L 4*4 in the city area and here are my observations.

1) The interiors of AX7L are quite luxurious compared to other versions. Soft touch plastics and other touches give it a premium feel.
2) ADAS is in full action. If you get too close to the vehicle in front, then there is a shudder in steering with beep sound. However, I am not a fan of ADAS.
3)The ride is P-L-U-S-H with excellent sound insulation at low speeds. Will test the same at high speeds later.
4) feather touch steering - very female and senior citizen friendly as you can steer literally with a finger.
5) large outer mirrors and good visibility from the rear view mirror give great visibility. the front window is vertical and small.
6) Engine is very refined. Only if you push it to higher rpms, it gets noisy and vocal.
7) Super audio system, very premium.
8) commanding driving position.
9) there is lot of space inside due to heightened roof and you do not feel cramped in. If you open the sunroof, then it even makes it better.

Cons
1) front wipers are u-g-l-y. Even 3XO gets better wipers. I pointed this out to sales person.
2) door handles are flap type and there are no request sensors. Will have to fish out key every time to lock and unlock.
3) Turbo lag was prominent and it was slow to react on depressing accelerator.

Am planning to take another test drive at highway to test other things. Lets see.

Mahindra has made lot of effort to make it a family car and I am sure it will find lot of buyers.

How authentic is this info? I have booked a MX5 Petrol AT on the day the bookings opened and my dealer is clueless to when any variant will be received.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I wanted to check booking and payment status of my Thar Roxx booking done on 3rd October. Mahindra site is now updated and Thar Roxx booking process looks to be same as other Mahindra SUVs.

https://booking.mahindra.com is now redirecting to https://auto.mahindra.com/own-online...ction?pid=TH5D. I cannot see my existing booking details and status now. I assume Mahindra is collating all the bookings and will show up in "Vehicle Bookings" section and failed payment should not reflect in source accounts.

My initial booking failed due to payment failure. There was no retry payment button on this booking and the amount was deducted from my account. I am still waiting for booking support to provide payment status. Has anyone else got the amount back due to failed payment?

I concur, they have moved to standard booming route and also for successful booking simply log into Mahindra site and see the bookings. Guess they did this because for ScorpioN this use to be an issue people were searching in wrong location for delivery timeliness.

Also did anyone notice this Dual Sunroof for Sealth black is available only in top two variants

Nope! Same boat, first 3 transactions failed then tried with a different card which went through later got the message from 1st bank of amount deducted. Been sending 1 email everyday since 4th Oct but no acknowledgement so far, helpline says keep writing/we will get back yada yada...so guess that's it, wait and watch.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Ok, now I see a booking ID on the website. Is that the sequence?

The number starts with 100XXXXX. If this is a hint at the sequence (which it looks like) in any way, we have pretty much got a hint of where we stand.

Not exactly, I am under 200 but I know Delivery is end of Jan’25. But yes it assures (vaguely) Jan’25 meaning it could be a My24 model too.

Not sure we can decipher anything from the booking ID. Didn't the 700 and SN had booking IDs starting with OTF? I remember there were a lot of discussions around interpreting the numbers , did anyone decode it in the end correctly?
