Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The most common issue for most people have been the lack of thigh support in the driver’s seat. This seems to be to be the case for people who are average in height to the taller folks.

Are there after market options to fix this? Like a change a seat? Given that this is a driver’s car, it’s ironic that the worst seat in the house belongs to the driver.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

One lingering thought about the Roxx is that M&M made this one a tad smaller in form factor overall.

Space availability is definitely at a premium in this vehicle be it:
- The less than optimum front and leg room. The front passenger legs feel too close to the dash.
- No space for bottles in the top variants.
- Lower driver footwell space.
- Doors that feel a tad too near at the sides.
- Sub optimal Boot space (upto the seat level).
- Less than optimal side step space to get into the rear seats.
- Front A pillars that feel a tad too near the face.

M&M may have their logical reasoning to restict the overall size of the vehicle. It could have been a tad more generous in interior space department. The Wrangler is so huge in comparision for example with such a humongous boot.

That doesn't make it less desirable as a vehicle to own, it is an excellent purpose-built-offroader for sure and definitely a useful tool for folks who really have such a need (hilly areas, remote areas, farm house use, estate use with jeep trails where having 4x4 capability is a boon). It would serve well as a second/lifestyle vehicle, having a primary regular vehicle for family use would be needed.

However its important to realize that offering more space definitely increases the convenience and luxury quotient of any vehicle.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

13th Onwards delivers are to start till Diwali you would see them crawling in parking lots on dividers potholes. Metro traffics, influencers in Rajisthan and where not till the value of vehicle is recovered with all catch fish phrases
"Roxx ka phele accident",
"FIRST Lifted Roxx",
" FIRST delivery of XYZ city",
"Roxx camper setup" ,
"Roxx panoramic Sunroof Mx1 to Mx7",
"Roxx 26"wheels"
"Roxx #Fooddishname Wali"
"ROXX hilux tug of war"

Till Sierra comes and then Roxx will reach normalcy and on Secondhand dealerships too.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Had a quick spin of a Thar Roxx D AT. My observations (could be repeating as that of others but still worth sharing to re-assure some of the findings)

1. White interior is big no-no. Do not under estimate this. Seats can be covered but other interior elements including the roof is not possible to cover. The test drive vehicle is soiled and dirty inside so fast and it looked so ugly in few weeks of usage.

2. Worst under thigh support in such a big vehicle and it is worse than 2 Door Thar, I felt.

3. Exiting from rear door is not that convenient. Or I yet to get used to this. Mainly, the height along with the position of the running board is a bit unusual, so, a bit inconvenient. Shorter people/mobility challenged elders will find this extremely uncomfortable along with the narrow entry point and narrower seats/under thigh support etc. Every time, I climbed up to the driver seat, I kind of crushed the seat edges and "slid" in rather than climb up and "sit". I am 5.11 for reference.

4. Better rear boot area compared to Thar. Not very big but still decent. Compared to the Wrangler, the boot is just half in size. May not be enough to carry the suitcases for 4 people overseas' trip drop in the airport, I observed. Wrangler easily could get accommodate this.

5. Best part: Silent/sweet engine/6 AT Aisin combo and the delivery of power which is linear. I thought it will be a bit more peppier but it is not. It is a matured tuning. I do not think the diesel has power modes. When I asked the sales person, he was not sure about that, rather showed me the terrain modes. Very refined engine compared to the D AT 2 Door. No clatter seeps through the interior. This is a top class job by Mahindra. In X1, one can still hear the typical CRDI clatter, but that is also nicely insulated or masked in Roxx. Not a small feat to compare X1 and Roxx. Imagine if we put in some more damping in the doors and some sound proof under the bonnet. It will be dead silent.

6. Steering is far more refined and accurate (not to the level of X1) compared to the already better 2 Door Thar steering which is a hydraulic setup. Classic Innova and Scorpio etc. had worst steering feel IMHO. No connect and it is just dead. I for one, thinks the refined steering feel is actually the proof of a car that handles well and Roxx did not disappoint for sure. U turns were easier compared to the 2 Door.

7. Footwell seems/felt smaller, just like 2 Door or even less? My driver had similar feedback. We took turns to test drive so that I could sit in the back.

8. The display of side view camera in the screen (when the turn indicator is switched on) is not that easy to comprehend yet, at least for me. Might take time to adjust. Somehow, I felt the Creta's implementation was far more refined, intuitive and required less effort to get accustomed.

9. Music system is good on paper, but the real experience was a bit underwhelming for me. The test car had sub woofer but the punch I expected was missing but the bass was present which was not tight. It sounded not "full bodied" or the mid range was completely off compared to the X1. X1 has excellent mid range and a refined bass which is not boomy. Here Roxx's low and high was more prominent and the midrange was nowhere to be felt. Some tuning and adjustment might be required.

10. Now, to the infamous Mahindra's ride tuning of their cars. Still no way this ride is compliant but improved over 2 Door Thar for sure. I still doubt (I would not choose Roxx for ride quality) whether this is good enough for a single car garage.

Creta for e.g. is giving properly tuned highway and city rides which is a necessity for this category. in Roxx, highway rides could cause nausea especially for the rear passengers with this kind of movement in the rear. Even with Wrangler my son used to suffer. I need to confirm this with the long test drive in a highway but the vertical/sideways movement are a cause for concern if one is looking for a Duster/Renault like pliant ride.

Vertical movement is still present especially on undulations and pot holes. Compared to the new Creta, the suspension seems to be of still not filtering the hard hits that much. Creta's suspension does everything silently, and it is is buttery smooth even on undulations, it masks the hard work of the suspension system's noise and movements etc. I know this is not a good comparison but still worth to share. I could not do a long highway kind of test ride as the sales person was not conducive enough. It could be the fact that, he was scared of the toll booth in the vicinity or the fuel. So, I will do a highway test drive and decide, even though I booked a D AT Mocha interior through online.

Add the shortage of the under thigh support, 2nd row is not anyway close to the Creta. I repeat this comparison as I strongly believe, Roxx is a direct competitor to Creta range of CUVs, while, XUV and Scorpio N is attacking the Innova and above territory up to Fortuner.

Roxx tries to sell itself with the rugged image and the extra power on paper. But frankly, 2.2 mhawk will not be fully exploited by neither 2 door or 4 door Thar due to their brick like design thus non-existent aero dynamics and poor high speed manners. XUV 7OO trumps its younger bro in this department. There will be product/price rationalization by Mahindra once the updated 7OO arrives. There are still cannibalization happening within their products. I for one, an example, who is shopping between 7OO and Roxx. Currently, I side with the 7OO for its matured ride quality and supposedly niggle free experience after this many years of feedback and recalls. For me, I need a comfortable highway cruiser which is abuse friendly and easy to fix.

One more thought, I really wonder how long the 2 Door will survive. This will become the niche product and 4 door will sell more as the price difference is almost nil. Or I contemplate that M&M will discontinue the 2 liter and 2.2 liter versions of Thar and sell only 1.5 as this will help to price and configure them apart. The hardcore off roaders are actually very small in numbers and then imagine the people who wants 2 door Thar which will be miniscule. Why 2 doors was successful, because, there was no Roxx then. With a more practical 4 door, even proper off road enthusiasts will put in few more lakhs and go for the 4 doors. I know there are 4-6 lakhs of difference in some cases but things will be rationalized and settle soon.

Thar 2 Door can not survive even with an update as the 2 extra doors are critical for everyone. Most of the enthusiasts purchased this already and now for the rest there multiple options like Roxx with that extra space/door/comfort/convenience/refinement etc. Newer buyers and the ones who did not like 2 Door Thar will just buy the Roxx.

What is left then? 15-19 lakhs for 2 door Thar when a 4 door comfort already exists? It is a dead end for Thar or at least it will sell considerably less in numbers.

I would not be surprised if 2 Door dies a slow death in few years time as Mahindra is such a company, they will not be afraid to kill it off if it is not economical. They are notorious for killing cars rather than improving them further. When an XUV or Scorpio got proper facelift? Same body panels still exists in the classic Scorpio even after 20+ years. KUV is dead, their MUVs are dead as well. Mahindra is such cut throat manufacturer who value profit over everything else.

Over all, Kudos to Mahindra and the team for delivering such a super refined, abuse friendly, almost 80% of what Wrangler can do in 20% of the cost. This is not a small feat. This is a engineering marvel, nothing less. I just wait for Roxx to get exported to the world and see what happens to Stellantis and Jeep. Their only proper vehicle which sells well in US (apart from RAMs) has a serious competitor that can actually threaten its existence, for the first time.

I experienced the same issue with my booking where my credit card was charged and payment was processed, but the website showed "Payment Failed." Since I wasn’t in a hurry, I left the booking as it was and sent an email to bookingsupport@mahindra.com regarding the payment and booking issue.

On the night of the 3rd, I received a WhatsApp message stating that the booking sequence would be on hold until 4 PM on the 4th and that I need to make the payment. But I did nothing about this.

I checked the website on the 4th morning and it still showed the payment status as "failed." And also no email from support team on my issue.

On the 4th afternoon, I finally saw that the booking status had been updated to "confirmed" for the date of 3rd Oct. Despite this, I only received the confirmation text and email on the 6th, as you can see in the WhatsApp screenshot below;

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-img_20241009_092334.jpg

I still believe that the booking numbers shared by Mahindra is not what it looks like, actual numbers going to be half of that as there are many people who did multiple bookings online and at dealerships just to get hold of the vehicle at earliest.

Also the message I received about the sequence hold means anyone who tried to book and had issues with payment or booking still had their booking sequence on hold till 4 PM on 4th. So anyone thinking that payment issue put them behind in the line is not true unless they did not receive booking confirmation before the mentioned time period.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

A lot of buyers with budget around 20 Lacs INR are considering to buy Thar Roxx. This car will surely take away the buyers of Creta, Seltos and many more cars in this price bracket.
Thar 3 Door 4x4 is a niche product which grabs attention since it is rare, it is special, it defines a persona.

On the other hand Thar 5 Door is an adpated Thar and is close to be a main stream family car. In the coming years One should not be surprised if 50% cars on the Indian Roads are Thar, since almost everyone aspires to buy this.

I myself considering to buy a Thar Roxx simply because there is a 5 Door Thar in the market.

With such a huge populations of Thars Roxx that special attention affect will become a common sight and IMHO it will be a next Bolero.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Guys in future, it would be great if Test drive experiences are mentioned while also mentioning Tyre pressure. My neighbour test drove the Roxx and he mentioned tyre pressure at the rear was 40, and it was bouncing like a basket ball. After reducing pressure to 32, the ride had some jiggle on bad roads at slow speed, but was much much improved.
I will be mostly be taking a test drive this week or the next.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Out of nowhere, I received another booking confirmation email for an AX3L D MT 2WD in Everest White. While going through the details, I noticed it was a dealer booking using my personal information from a test drive. I also remembered they had called me asking for my PAN/Aadhar details, which I had refused to share.

Raised this with customer support and was asked to forward an email to the booking support and customer care email addresses. Honestly, I have no hope for any action or resolution, either from Mahindra or the dealership.

I have a booking with another dealer and hope this false booking doesn't affect it for any reason . Has anyone experienced this before? I’d appreciate any input on what I should be doing differently.

In the so-called 2L+ bookings, we won’t know how many were made by dealers in a similar way, trying to make extra money by offering immediate deliveries to customers who are willing to pay more for accessories, insurance, and so-called premium.

Got a phone call from the assigned Mahindra dealership asking for PAN/Aadhaar despite verification on the website. I’ve not shared it as of now but I feel this is extremely suspicious behaviour. Anyone else faced this? And what are y’all doing to avoid it.

Asked me as well, to create the file in their records. I did send them. I've met the dealership guys a few times now, so don't think its abnormal.

BTW, MX5 deliveries are starting day-after or so. But there is no news on anything else as of now.

Any idea what the delivery schedule will be? The dealer is tightlipped about it while a dealer service guy nonchalantly tells me at a roadside tea stall nearby, that it will be over a year
