Where there is no transparency, anything is possible!

So far Mahindra support was saying "latest by 25th Oct'24". This is the first X post where they have mentioned between 25th to 30th October 2024.

In the meantime many dealers are having a field day manipulating customers.
I had reached out to their customer service via e-mail and received the same response asking for my patience between 25 to 30 Oct. Test drove the Thar Roxx again yesterday and felt the ride quality is unsettling and may make passengers uncomfortable especially over a long drive. I am beginning to get 2nd thoughts on whether to retain or cancel my booking.

Please ask the dealer/SA for the stockyard landing document copy for your car (VIN number). This way you will be sure about when it landed in the stockyard and will be able to identify how long the vehicle is there in the stockyard.

For my Kodiaq, I was able to demand this and ensured that the card landed in the stockyard only a day before the PDI.

Thank you, Somersault. I had asked them for details, but I didn’t get anything beyond assurances. I wasn’t aware of this specific document (landing document), so I didn’t explicitly ask for it. Believe me, there’s a huge difference in how Skoda, Maruti, Kia, and Hyundai handle cars at the stockyard compared to Mahindra. I remember the PDI of my i20 back in 2011 at the stockyard. The vehicle had been there for almost a month, but I couldn’t find a single issue/scratch.

Based on my interactions with various people at the dealership, my guess is that Mahindra is planning a bulk delivery event and is keeping all allocated cars in the stockyard until then. I wanted the delivery on 24th October, but I was only given the option of a Puja at the dealership on that day, with the actual delivery happening during a grand delivery event. More delay means more bad handling of cars, don't understand how much more PR hype Mahindra wants for ROXX

I’ve finally decided to reject the currently allocated vehicle and wait for the next allocation. On the positive side, this should give me enough time to learn more about the vehicle based on feedback from other members and their usage experiences.

4. In Mahindra portal, all the details will be updated on or after Oct 25th.

He sounded confident that he can deliver the car within the next 2 weeks. Lets see.
Did you get an update on the dispatch? I was told by my SA that the vehicle has not been dispatched yet. Also, are they pushing you for dealer insurance or mandatory accessories?

I had test driven both the diesel and petrol. Petrol definitely has more power and better NVH, and it's a different beast in zoom mode. And it showed FE of 6.7 KMpL in the MID.

We should add this step of checking the document, to the T-BHP PDI checklist if not there already. For my Kodiaq, when I asked for the landing document copy, the dealer suddenly changed the tune and gave me a different VIN number than the one which was given earlier. The new VIN landing document confirmed the delivery of the vehicle in the stockyard just a day before.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

First post on Team-BHP after being an avid follower and reader for more than a decade. I have a Renault Duster AWD 2016 with me which has completed 1Lakh km on the odo. Took a test drive of the 5 door Thar (Roxx is a silly name) and have booked online on Oct 3 at 11 am sharp of AX7L 4WD AT Battleship Grey with Mocha interiors. SA told me that it will be Feb at least. Thinking whether to keep the Dister or sell. In 2 minds.

SA has shared Engine and Chassis number. As per him, the car has reached the stockyard. He has invited me to do a PDI in the next couple of days.

So far there has been no pushing on anything additional. I had told him at the very beginning that I would not opt for financing(loan), neither would I take insurance from them. I will take a couple of accessories, nothing major, but there's no pushing on that front as well.

So far I'm feeling good. This will be my first Mahindra , and some of the posts in this thread was making me uncomfortable to be honest.

Nice, do let us know how the PDI goes. In the meantime let me check with my SA the status of my car. There was no push from my SA (Sireesh Silk Board Blr) on insurance or accessories either, which I found surprising, to be honest. My first Mahindra and first BoF vehicle, fingers crossed; praying it will be a niggle free experience.

Agree, after having driven both Petrol and Diesel Roxxs, the petrol is more refined and having more power.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The Thar Roxx Purchase Dilemma

My recent experience with the Mahindra Thar Roxx purchase has been quite the rollercoaster. What started as excitement turned into second-guessing, a bit of frustration, and eventually, a surprising outcome.
At first, I was quite sure the Thar Roxx was my next SUV. But after reading reviews about its bumpy ride and having a pretty lacklustre experience with the dealership, I started to have doubts. I thought, why not explore other options? So, I ended up test-driving the Hyundai Tucson.
Honestly, the Tucson was impressive. The punchy engine, smooth ride, and great visibility had me thinking maybe this was the better option. However, when I brought the family along, things went south. My wife and kids weren’t too thrilled with it—they said it felt cramped, not airy enough, and too similar to our current Jeep Compass. So much for the Tucson being the savior!

The Plan to Discourage the Family (That Totally Backfired)

At this point, I was leaning toward the Thar Roxx again, but I wasn’t entirely sold. I thought the best way to finalize things was to take my family for another test drive in the Roxx, but this time with a plan. I wanted them to feel the rough ride and get discouraged. So, I took it slow over potholes, bounced them through expansion joints, and didn’t miss any opportunity to make them experience the jarring ride quality.
But here’s where my plan backfired. Instead of being put off by the bumpiness, they were surprisingly okay with it. In fact, they said it didn’t feel too different from the Compass. What they loved even more were the large windows in the Roxx—it let in way more light, making the cabin feel less claustrophobic compared to the Tucson or Compass.

Back to the Thar Roxx

So, despite my efforts to sway the family away from the Roxx, they ended up liking it more! That left me back where I started—sticking with the Roxx booking. But while the family was on board, the dealership experience continued to be a disappointment.

Dealing with the Dealership
The dealership (Anant Cars Bangalore) staff didn’t seem to care whether I bought the car or not. No commitment on delivery dates, no excitement about accessories—it was just a cold, uninterested vibe. Even when I tried luring them with the promise of going big on accessories, the accessories guy barely looked up. For a car that’s going to cost around ₹29.5 lakhs on-road in Bangalore, you’d expect a bit more effort.

Final Thoughts on the Thar Roxx
After all the back and forth, here are some things I’ve noticed during my test drive:
  1. Somewhat Jumpy Ride: The ride feels jumpy not only for the passengers but also for the driver. It’s what you’d expect from a body-on-frame SUV though.
  2. Power Delivery: The 4X4 diesel automatic feels a bit sluggish at times. The Tucson, for example, easily jumps to 80 kmph with a somewhat light touch on the pedal on the service roads, while the Thar Roxx struggles to hit 60 kmph with the same effort.
  3. Visibility Issues: Rearview mirror visibility is poor due to the spare tire blocking a lot of the view. Even the ORVMs aren’t as great as in sedans or the Compass.
  4. Gear Indicators: The gear indicators (lights) aren’t on the gear lever panel itself but only show up on the main display, leaving first time users of the automatic transmission a bit confused.
  5. Steering: The steering is ultra-light, which makes it easy to maneuver, but for me, it feels a bit too light. That’s more of a personal preference, though.

The Decision: Sticking with the Roxx
Despite the dealership drama and some quirks with the car, the Thar Roxx is staying booked. My family’s happy with it. If only the dealership experience was smoother, the whole process would’ve been a lot more enjoyable.
But for now, the Thar Roxx is set to be our next ride—bumpy roads and all!

PS: The views expressed are personal and do acknowledge that the reference to the Tucson may not be comparing apples to apples.

I am a bit surprised here, the rear door windows looked awkwardly small when I saw the Roxx in person, add to it that only 75% of it slides down. Maybe cause I was comparing with the vehicle's huge size. Those are larger than the Compass?

Or maybe you meant the windshield?

Very funny side of this whole booking drama. I booked via online but I had to choose a local dealer. Then I went to that Chennai dealer for the test drive. They weren't that keen and looked very egoistic. Problem is that I have a much much bigger ego. I called the same dealer from whom I purchased the 2D Thar who are actually in a different city. Now those guys are changing the booking to their database. I am not sure how they do this but they are promising a faster delivery. I am not in a rush as I need a 4x4 with Mocha brown interior which will be only delivered starting 2025 Jan onwards. So, it looks like anything is possible.
