Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Does anybody have any concrete idea or insider info about if there is chance that the new Kylaq will come equipped with ADAS ?
I know that on different forums and platforms, people have been mentioning that since Kushaq doesn't have ADAS yet so it's highly unlikely that a lower segment car will come equipped with it but I am inclined to believe that since Kushaq's facelift will only be a few months away by the time the Kylaq actually hits the market, this logic doesn't seem to hold much water.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

I am not too sure why Skoda wants to enter this sub 4 meter segment, rather they should focus and spend that money on improving Kushaq's overall parts and components quality.

But nevertheless, now that they have anyways entered the segment, I simply don't understand, when will the management of Skoda learn, to learn from the market/competition.

For example, Kylaq, just like Kushaq, continues to get rear wiper with frame

Rear Wiper- Still From The First Generation Innova Era

How difficult it is to add a frameless rear wiper?

My 2022 VW Taigun GT Plus with Frameless Wiper

Same Taigun without Frameless Wiper

I personally believe, this simply changed the entire look and feel of the car from rear.

To procure this, all I did was, went to my VW Authorised Service Station, and replaced the wiper arm and wiper blades with Polo arm and blade.

How much did it cost me at retail level? INR 3250. At the plant level, I am sure this will not even cost more than INR 1200.

Why Skoda Why? What will you guys achieve by not charging me INR 1500 more on the ex-showroom price of the Kylaq?

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Skoda Kylaq spied testing again before its launch :

Quote:
The new spy images clearly give us the impression how the side and rear of the Kylaq will look. This particular test mule was running on blacked out alloy wheels, and it also had silver finished roof rails giving it a rugged appearance. Although the taillights at the back are still covered, believe it will likely have inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps based on observations and previous sightings.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Apart from the competitive-price due to lower tax, I look for a sub-4m vehicle because my parking slot is exactly 4m. I actually have no budget constraint - only length constraint. I am not sure how many are there like me. So I am postponing my decision till next year.

I am curious whether there is a openable roof (sun/moon)! I personally hope there isn't. I am currently surveying for a car and openable roof has become almost a standard feature.

Add me to the list with the same constraint
I had tried Kushaq but ingress into and egress from my parking lot was cumbersome. Considering this to be daily affair, didn't consider going ahead with it. Fingers crossed to get a hand on Kylaq and try.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Skoda Kylaq base variant spied. Will miss out on many features targeting a low sticker price.

- To miss out on an infotainment system, leatherette seats

- No rear wiper or defogger

- Base variant of the Kylaq will get a new grille with a large bumper

-The headlamps are expected to be halogen units with DRLs embedded in the cluster.

-Will ride on 16-inch wheels with steel rims for the base model.

-The entry-level variant of the Kylaq will get fabric seats, manual handbrake, cup holders in the centre console, analogue instrument panel, and a manual IRVM

-Will completely miss out on an infotainment system and, instead, there will be a provision to mount one post the purchase.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

I spotted Kylaq yesterday in Chakan up close. No pics as I was the only one in the my vehicle driving.

Honestly speaking, I am a bit worried for this car. It simply lacks any kind of road presence and its too diminutive in size compared to Sonets and XUV3XO's of the segment. It even felt smaller than a Kiger/Magnite (smallest in the segment). I was in my Fronx and the Kylaq was in opposite lane, I could feel the driver seated was at the same height as me. Now my fronx lacks driver seat height adjust, and seating position is one of the biggest cons for me. I hope the driver in Kylaq kept the seat at the lowest position, if not with that kind of seating position, this car is doomed.

Sorry if I sounded too pessimistic but Skoda needs to understand Size does matter in Indian context. If not size, atleast some semblance of road presence is necessary to succeed. This lacks both!

Motor slip regulation to prevent excessive engine braking while downshifting? Now that's an interesting one. Not sure how useful it would be for a small 999cc engine but interesting all the same. I have only seen it in sporty motorcycles.

Electronic differential lock?! In a jacked up hatchback with 110hp? But why? Does the Kushaq 1.5 even get this?

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

I think it's a good move by Skoda to launch a car in this segment.

I was looking to buy a car here in this segment and as much as I look I can't find a truly premium car. Sure the Koreans look and feel very premium but are eliminated because of the poor safety record. Honda is bunking classes again and as usual is absent. Toyota is a rebadged maruti.

And now with Skoda and hopefully VW following with a 1 year gap, I will have some options in this segment.

Only thing that remains to be tested is:

1. AC performance

2. A little roughness in the VW 1.0 turbo that I felt while owning the Seat Arona 1.0 turbo in the UK

3. FE in peak traffic where this engine seems to struggle on the heavier cars. Hopefully this shouldn't be the case here. On the open roads the FE is fantastic

PS - look how the rear tyre is almost at the end of the bumper. Wheels in the corners. I like.

Compared to the official preview, this time you don't see its headlights divided into two sections although you can see the projectors on and also part of the taillights.

But what is clearly seen is the shape of the glazed surface and details such as the sunroof over the front seats, not having a panoramic roof as it is a more expensive option for Indian customers. A special equipment for a model whose target audience is looking for a more affordable car, although it will have a digital instrument panel as you can see in the spy photos, at times rolling at 120 km/h

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

We are personally quite excited for the launch of the Kylaq.

We are looking to replace our 2014 Celerio AMT with something that can serve us for our city-driving requirements, while also being capable enough for the odd highway drive should the need arise. The car will be driven in the city predominantly and will also need to be small enough to squeeze itself into tight parking situations.

With our budget being around 20 lakh, we had initially considered used SUVs from the premium segment, like the previous generations of the X1 and the Q3, and even a lightly used T-Roc if we could find one, as it would compliment my BMW in the garage.

However, we turned our attention to a new car, for various reasons. Besides, the X1 and Q3 would have probably been too large anyway, for our specific requirement.

The Venue N Line was considered briefly, but we wanted to move away from Maruti / Hyundai / Tata / Mahindra for this proposed upgrade.

That did not leave us with too many options except the Kushaq and Taigun. However, the 1.0 TSI AT not being perfectly suited to the Kushaq Taigun platform, and also being priced too close to the 1.5 TSI, threw another spanner in the works.

The Kylaq, I hope, will fill that gap and suit our requirements to the T, provided it’s priced competitively.

My only concerns are the proportions/dimensions of the Kylaq.

If it has retained the same overall height of the Kushaq while being shortened in length to fit within the 4-meter mark, I fear it will look a bit awkward and ungainly. However, if it’s a scaled down Kushaq, we’d be happy to go for it.

Eagerly awaiting its unveil next month!

From the spy pictures, it looks proportional and not a truncated Kushaq. It should be slightly taller than an i10 Grand or of the same height as the Fronx.
