But a potential Carnival buyer won't stretch to the Vellfire by paying an extra 60-70 lakhs for the image. Remember, the Carnival or Vellfire buyer do not care about image or status. If so they would have forgone their comfort and bought an equivalent priced German for status.

A Vellfire buyer will always buy the Vellfire, only thing that can budge them would be a Lexus van or a Maybach badge on a van. A buyer for the Carnival has already seen the VFM factor at 85 lakhs (no competition), they wouldn't bother to spend another 50-60 lakhs just to upgrade to a Vellfire.

Can someone share what exactly was upgraded over the previous Carnival? I am sure there is a market for this, especially in cities that are not cramped. There are many Velfires and Lexus LMs in Hyderabad. I also see many around office districts assuming that even senior-level executives are using it, not just rich families.

It does seem steep for a KIA, but I felt the same about Tucson. I still feel it sometimes, but once you drive it, it is worth all the money.

This is just a hypothetical question since such a modification will have a very small market. Considering just the second-row comfort, how much more comfortable is it than a modified Innova or previous-gen Carnival? I am sure the modified version will cost less.

Earlier, the connect feature was used to upgrade only the infotainment centre and navigation systems. In India Kia had tied up with Vodafone, using 2G for voice and 4G for data services. With Kia Connect 2.0, the company has switched to Airtel and uses the VOLTE, a communication standard that can use either 4G, 5G or even your WiFi [I am not sure Kia is supporting WiFi right now, but VOLTE has that ability, which is seen in most modern smartphones]. Just some clarification on VoLTE. It means voice over LTE which is voice over 4G. For 5G its called VoNR, voice over NR (new radio) which is term used for 5G. VoWiFi takes internet to reach their gateway and then to a common gateway that connects to IMS network for voice. In 5G the architecture is different but ultimately reach IMS.

For both 4G and 5G, the voice packets never enter the generic internet while for WiFi, it takes that path initially so quality may not be as good as one using 4G/5G

Kia India delivers 400 Carnival MPVs within 2 months

Kia has delivered 400 units of the Carnival in India within 2 months since deliveries began. The MPV has garnered 3,350 bookings and the current waiting period stands at more than 6 months.



The fourth-generation Carnival was launched in October. It is available in a single top-spec ‘Limousine+’ trim priced at Rs 63.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Limousine+ variant of the Carnival is available with a 7-seat configuration with captain seats in the second row. It is equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens, a 4-spoke steering wheel with an 11-inch head-up display and dual electric sunroofs.

The MPV also gets features like 3-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a 12-way powered driver’s seat, heating and ventilation function for the second-row seats and retractable leg support.

The Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 190 BHP and 441 Nm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Same here. I have not seen a single one on Hyderabad roads.

I saw one in car wash next to Automotive Kia showroom near Kondapur RTO about a month back. It was white Carnival, and the car looked big. I took a pause, waited for couple of minutes for the car to come out so I could admire and glance at it. I left when the car did not come out for 5 minutes.

I hope some previous gen Carnival become available in secondhand market and I can get to own previous gen at reasonable price.

Got a chance to check put the new Kia Carnival today in a showroom near my place in Hyderabad.

Love at first glance

• Looks huge, almost like a 1 bhk apartment.
• Space utilization is like a miracle. The way the third row disappears into the boot floor.
• Quality is really plush, almost every touchpoint is soft touch
• Can't think of any feature which is missing, even gets ventilated seats in the rear.
• all LED lights look sharp and I am sure must be really bright at night.
• I have driven the previous gen, and the 400NM torque was evident, this one has it bumped up to 450NM, so I am sure, this can win any traffic signal races.
• Love the 18 inch alloys
• The automatic rear door opening is surely a crowd puller and one of the magic features from its pandora box.

Coming to the cost of 83Lakhs on road Hyderabad, its surely more expensive than a 1BHK Apartment, which takes away the value proposition of all the goodies it gets. I hope they try and localize the manufacturing, to bring the price near to the Innova Hycross range.

But yes, if you compare it to the Toyota Vellfire(1.3cr), costing double the on-road price of Carnival(63Lakh), then things look a little better.

Some things to note

• It only comes in one variant (Limousine+)
• It only comes in two colours (White or Black)
• it only comes in one powertrain and drivetrain

I did a short walkaround and boy oh boy, I am really a fan of this beauty. Hope I can afford it one day. Here is the link to the video
