Just tried 205 tires on the Punto. (PS Job of originally 165 tires) I guess 195s are the best looking on Punto. This is a bit overdone.

the stock ones are 195 right? I thought the stock ones are wide enough to look good on the Punto.

195s are only on the Emotion Pack. Emotion gets 175s and Other variants get the 165s from factory.

The brakes do need to bed in.

The initial braking of my CVT was so scary! But now it is as good as it can be.

But the Premier / Ambassador type of running in is not needed for engines anymore.

To grab more attention from Punto owners I am cross posting the same information in this thread too

Is there any other 1.4 petrol punto owner who faced the same issue mentioned in the following thread ?

Sujai, if you are pointing out to the 2nd gear issue.. Then I never found a pick up problem provided you pop from 1st to 2nd with the right engine speed.. thats why FIAT gave a tacho.

Well obviously, if you try to floor her in 2nd when doing 0km/h or 10km/h speed. She will take some time to gain speed... duh! All cars do.

To get that 90 horses FIRE unit pulling, you need to treat her like a Race Car.
And be prepared to watch that fuel needle drop dead fast!

Well that's my solution to your question.

Its not with 2nd gear alone. I really feel a jump/rush at a particular rpm/rpm range in most of the gears . I don't mind the time it takes to reach 60 / 100 or the overall pickup , but what I am worried about is the uneven acceleration

You need to change the driving style that's all. Nothing wrong with the performance of the car.

That sudden rush of RPM is nothing but the "anti-stall" kicking in to avoid the car from stalling.. which happens when you engage a higher gear without enough engine speed; resulting in a stall possibility. so the ECU simply raises the rpm to 1000 rpm and normalizes the stall possibility.

The cabin is so quiet that you wont be able to hear & feel the engine knocking (lugging).

TIP: Try shifting to a higher gear when you cross 1500-1700 rpm for the time being.
This way you should not face that uneven acceleration till you automatically adjust to the Punto's settings and then drive on your own technique.

Hope this helps.

I too had the same problem (sounds similar though, sorry if I am OT) with my Palio MJD.

I am new to driving; I learnt it an year back, however this is how I could overcome this problem.

The idea is to shift at around 2000 rpm for which you will have to rev up till 2500 rpm and then shift up. This was for my car based on the rpm drop while pressing the clutch and the long clutch travel. Remember, this is only for gears, 3rd and above. The first gear needs to be short and shift to 2nd by 1500 rpm else you will feel that there is no power being generated.

This is just a matter of practice and tweaking your driving style. Hope this helps.

Price hike of Grande Punto

Was just going through the Fiat GP website Fiat India . Prices of GP have gone up, as already reported by some members.

The top-end Emotion pack diesel was 6.14 Lacs Ex showroom Bangalore earlier, now it's 6.23 Lacs. Increase of 9K for the top-end variant. Likewise, the base diesel has gone up by 7K.

I guess they did this for the linea as well earlier - hiking the prices after the introductory period.
