Any confirmation on the official launch date? The buzz seems to be Oct 12th but no official confirmation yet.

You are correct. The car will be officially launched in Delhi and Mumbai on 12th October.

A note about the sensor system.
There is a sensor on drivers door. So when you get out of the car after driving, you can either press the lock button on the remote to lock the car or just touch your finger on the sensor on driver door handle, and the car will lock.
However beware, until you move away more than 2 meters from the car, the car can be opened by a tug on the handle.
Even inside the car with doors locked, if you pull the handle twice, the door opens

Nice review! Rear Headroom is real low, same is the problem in optra.
But nice & rich features list for 13L car.

Does the car have a visual/sound alert (like indicators blinking/beeping sound) if the car is locked or not because people have a tendency of checking if the car is locked or not and obviously if you have your key fob on you the door will open.
It seems a little complicated, I can imagine all the Aunties sitting in the back complaining that the door is locked after one tug of the door handle

Yes, the indicator flash and you can hear the locks going down.
The system is excellent, but if you check if car is locked, it will open.

During the test I had requested Chevrolet for an owners manual, but since there wasn't any I just browsed through the computer. Its somewhat complicated, so there is a chance I missed the security settings, buried somewhere in the menu.

Said the same thing on the other thread - the twice tugging funda.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...hpians-13.html

IMO this is a tad dangerous with us Indians who might not be so well versed with this feature. With the car running, someone might merrily go on tugging the door open latch thinking the door is locked, and ouch .....

A very detailed report Tanveer.

Its more VFM with fully packed features of the modern diesel car in this segment. However our Indians are more worried about the resale value and the brand image where chevy fails.Hope this may not follow the footprints of Sonata.

Fantastic review. The quality of the photos is stunning as well.

Tsk, can three sit comfortably in the back seat? Is there any protrusion in the middle?

No, the middle protusion is not significant, but since the car is narrow, 3 will have a hard time fitting in. This is the car for the driver, the back seat passenger will feel pretty short changed.
There is nothing for the rear passenger. Not much room, no AC, and an upright back seat

An upright seat is surprising considering the Optra is known to have one of most comfortable back seats around.

brilliant review Tanveer, and your snaps are excellent!

looks like a good car, but i guess the shortcomings - bad turbolag and poor backseat comfort levels will impact its potential. It might be limited to enthusiast, despite its diesel appeal.

It would be good for GM to bring an auto option fast.
