Hi folks, I'm getting my Beat LT serviced (6yrs, 47k kms). The folks at the service centre are asking to change the front suspension. I don't see any problem with the suspension in my daily drives - no noise or any other problem. The cost of this is Rs 14000 per them

For now I've asked them to not change the suspension. Did any of you face this problem? I'm worried that the service center (Hyderabad - Hafeezpet) guys are trying to fleece me here. Even otherwise I think the cost of some spares are high, e.g. wiper blade rubbers - 800 rupees etc

Get it examined by a trusted FNG outside. If it does need repair/replacement it will be cheaper at the FNG. Now that you are outside the warranty period there is no need as such to visit the A.S.S. unless its some major problem

My Beat Petrol is due for its 4th Year/40,000 Kms service tomorrow. I have had all my previous servicing done from Trident Chevrolet, barring the rat bite repairs carried out in June this year. This time, I've scheduled an appointment with Kropex Chevrolet Marathahalli.

I have a query regarding this peculiar thing termed as "Brake Overhaul" that the guys at Trident have been carrying out at each of my last 4 service visits. It costs about Rs. 1200/- for both front & rear brakes, including brake cleaning.

My question is, is doing the Brake Overhaul thing a necessity? Have any of you been asked by the workshops to get it done? My car has done 36,300kms.

I have only heard this being done by Chevrolet. Will be interesting to see if the guys at Kropex also ask me to get this done!

Avoid it. It seems to be a pointless attempt to inflate the bill. I have never had to get this done when I service my car so its not a company approved thing

Our Beat got her 13th paid service done on Saturday, 26th November.

Odo reading stands at 52771 KMs

Business as usual. General Service, Engine Oil - Filter change, Throttle Body cleaning, AC filter change, etc. Got her back at 1:00 pm.

Total damage Rs 3739/-

Replacing clutch assembly is still pending. Still holding on with hesitation (sometimes) to shift gear from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Mileage too is consistent these days in the range of 12.5 to 13. But the clutch transplantation along with gear lever is imminent.

Thanks for that Mortis. However the guys at Kropex said the brake overhaul needs to be done for Brake Fluid Replacement. Is this true? How much is the labour charge for replacing brake fluid? Rs. 1300/- seems to be extremely high for such a job!

Can the Beat owners in Bangalore shed some light on these practices of dealers here?

Ive done about 40k kms so far and not replaced the break fluid yet. Only done a bit of bleeding and top up as well as skimming of discs and replacement of break pads at about the 30k km mark

Hi guys! I have a 2012 Chevy Beat LT Petrol.
My 30k service is due very soon. The car has been pretty trouble free. I got my battery changed from Batterybhai.com as the stock battery was nearing the end of its life.
I'm looking for some modifications for my Beat. I guess I'll go in for aftermarket tail lights and a better rear bumper as I don't really like the current one.
Any suggestions? Also the mileage has been on the lower side in the last 6 months as I've been getting 11-12 in city. Should I go in for an ECU remap from Chevy A.S.S? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The mileage seems pretty alright for a metro city like Delhi where traffic is high.

So finally at 53757 KMs our Beaty underwent a major surgery today.

Problem: Difficulty in shifting gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd at times. Power delivery was normal, no clutch slip or burning and no dip in mileage too. During last 2 services SA Somnath repeated that a Clutch Overhaul will solve the issue. So finally plunged.

OEM clutch would have easily lasted another 10000+ KMs. But the gear shifting issue was getting into my nerves. Sometimes launching from a red light ends up with followers honking from the back while I fiddle with gear lever and clutch.

Parts replaced:

1. Clutch - 1028
2. Pressure Plate - 1117
3. Bearing - 892
4. Flywheel - 5715
5. Clutch cable - 415
6. Gear Oil - 1175
7. Gear Lever (Gear grip of our Figo which is just one month older than our Beat looks almost new after 6.8 years) - 1737

Labour : 3500

Discount : 5% on Spares & 15% on Labour

Total damage to the wallet : Rs. 17,096/-

Whoa! 17k for clutch overhaul + Gear Stick replacement. This is the reason why people shy away from Chevrolet. Parts are expensive, not available in the market and in workshop routine replacements burn a hole in the pocket.
What is the point in not providing the gear knob seperately and forcing the customer to cough up 2k for it?
Are they making the flywheel out of silver? 6k seems to be quite high.

Can't agree more. But helpless. Hope the replaced parts will last another 50K KMs at least

IMO, The replacement of flywheel, pressure plate and gear oil could have been avoided.
You would have got the same results without replacing them.
17k is too high for a clutch work in Beat.
Hope the problems are eliminated now.

This decision was made after so much deliberation on whether we are going to keep the car for many more years or not. Then came to a conclusion that there is no point in selling off her since the car is running same as ever before and slowly wife will take care of her.

The decision to change flywheel along with pressure plate was taken after inspecting them closely. There was uneven wear marks and with new clutch it would have aggravated and end up in another overhaul in near future. But nonetheless to say the flywheel costing is a daylight looting .

Yes, car is back to showroom piece now. With new gear lever it is butter smooth to shift gear.

Good that the car is normal now.

Shocked to see the price for the flywheel! 5.8K. Made of gold?

When I changed the set in my Swift ZDi, prices were as follows for the parts:

Flywheel - ₹1752
Clutch plate - ₹1600
Pressure plate - ₹1096

All 3 item clubbed, I still have spare money left that would be charged as labor IMO.

Chevrolet needs to get their act together and seriously look at the pricing of the spares.
