TD of the BEAT

Had a short TD of the BEAT today and following are my observations:
1.Driving the car is easy due to the light controls and the steering, which
has an excellent grip. The power window switches though, are awkwardly placed.
2.The low seats may not pose much visibily problems on open roads. However in stop-and-go traffic, they may.( I didn't TD in stop-and-go traffic)
3.I didn't feel claustrophobic while sitting on the rear seats, but some may feel so. Each to his own.
4.The engine is super smooth, but not the gear box. However I suspect there was some problem with the gear box of the TD vehicle.Another unusual thing is that the neutral is set too far back.
5.I coudn't assess the ride quality due to a very short TD.However, I plan to have another TD for this.
I would appreciate if BEAT owners could post their experiences about the ride quality on different types of roads.
6.Regarding the dealership: They had a TD vehicle ready, and the sales executive was well informed about the car.I was told that there was a waiting period of around 2 months for the LS and LT variants.'Super Red' and 'Misty Lake' were the colours preferred by the customers.

odd... typically mileage increase as the car is used more, the engine "settles" in.

Maybe a change in driving style? Or maybe initial kilometers consisted of a lot of highway driving and this tank was all city, stop-and-go traffic?

Make sure you aren't riding the clutch!

Guys the Spark which also has a close by ARAI rating gives only 13 in city. I dont think we should look for more than 12-14 in city. Given that the car pulls well only after 2K rpm we would always tend to push the pedal.

Please note the indicator marks are not linear. So measuring the FE is a little bit tricky.
But I also feel that the FE has gone down.

However in ARAI the FE is determined after complete running in. So that should be all right.

Will let you know my current FE once I get it.

In city with AC you cant expect more than 14.
And in highway not more than 18 with AC.

And BTW the day you got 14.5 ---- The tank must have been filled above halfway--is it??

Alright,

Thanks Oxyzen, Gemithomas & Anekhobhai

I keep the AC on most of the times. The car has completed 1600+ so far. I drive very carefully & any experienced driver would because its a new car. Normally we dont care paddling after 25k+ or lets say we care less.

The car should give 15-16 in city & 18+ on highways. It will definitely improve & these days when the summer is getting its real mood, the Ac doesnt respond that fast.

New thread created for Chevy Beat mods and accessories

Chevy Beat's World - Accessories & Mods
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...ions-here.html

Hi Chevy Beat Owners,

I thought it would be nice to have a separate thread for Chevy Beat accessories and modifications made by the owners. This way, the main Beat Review thread by GTO will have the reviews, comments, Ride & FE Discussions and the real war.

Please guys, update the above thread with the photos. Discuss the brands, pricing info and stuff so that this can be one-stop place for all the Beat owners and future buyers.

@Moderators, please move the posts relevant to the accessories to the above mentioned thread, if I am not asking a lot and make the GTO review thread be purely for reviews and comments for overall car.

Thx
Redlaw

SMART SEXY TOUGH! Chevy Beat really is!!!

I found this super cool video review. The green beat looks stunning in this video. Though the review is in Malayalam and I didn't understand it, the car is shown nicely doing all the feats in the green valleys of Kerala. Wonderful scenic beauty.

A must watch video.

While on the topic of reviews, I found a comparison some will surely be interested in: Chevy Beat vs Ford Figo!

Very true. The true competitor of beat is figo.
My friend got a figo Exi (which I drove for 10 odd Kms).
This is what I think.

Beat vs Figo
In Styling beat is definitely better both inside and out.
Performance till 2500 RPM is almost similar (Not Good) but Beat is more refined.
Beyond 2.5K Beat has the edge but more noisy.
FE in Beat should be better.
Visibility is not good n Beat.
Superb handling and steering feel in Figo. Beat rolls a lot, Steering is devoid of feel & also it runs on skinny tyres.
Ride quality of Beat is better. (A compromise on Handling - Softer suspension)
I feel seats are better in figo. Beat seats lack Thigh support (My biggest problem with Beat).
Much more space in Figo. Although legspace of Beat is as good as figo but the boot is minuscule.

Price
Petrol Exi – 3.8
1.2 LS – 3.5+.05(Colour)= 3.55 (WHEN I GOT)
1.2 LS - 3.6+.05(Colour)= 3.65 (NOW)

But in figo you get a wonderful Music system which is worth 15K.
So pricing is absolutely same.

Figo is definitely a better car than Beat.
Look at the Size & Character (Handling) of Figo.
If you like driving go for Figo and not Beat. Forget the 10 BHP. It is the handling that is needed for the fun to drive factor. Beat is also no rocket here.
If you want a relaxed rear seating definately figo. Beat has claustrophobic rear and slightly uncomfortable seats. But in figo Rear windows roll down to only 60%.---Mind it.

But if you cant bear with the following factors go for beat. (like me)
1) Horribly dull looks
2) Rear windows roll down to only 60%. Just unacceptable for my mom. (Also for me)
3) 70BHP for such a heavy car. No way.
4) Ford after sales service.
