Thanks a lot Salbin for the help. It was a pleasure meeting you all.

In other news- the fuel/water pump sound has resurfaced. I am visiting Kropex this week. Hopefully the problem will be rectified
I couldnt stop toggling between the different modes on the way back and today morning on my way to office.

Salbin, thanks a lot for the small course on DIY. Was lot of fun being able to remove the whole instrument cluster of my Beat.

Yep, I have been writing and uploading the pics since morning.
Babysitting and Team-BHPing is not an easy task.

Created a new thread with the entire procedure and pictures. Waiting for mods to move the thread from Assembly Line to the relevant section of the Forum. Will share the link here once its is moved and alive on the forum.

Thanks Soumyajit / Utprabh / Andy for joining me in the DIY.
It was nice meeting you guys.
Otherwise it is very difficult to complete the work alone.

BTW my temperature display is on and working fine from today morning - without doing anything

Re: Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review

My HeartBeat went for an unplanned checkup regarding the fuel pump noise today at Kropex. The people there did a thorough checkup and confirmed that the Fuel pump is fine ( I made them check 3-4 times). The left rear light console had water seeping in and was replaced FOC under warranty. The cables were lubricated and the filters cleaned (as I complained about drop in FE). Total Damage : Nil

Tried to install the Boot luggage compartment light. Although the option is there and the part costs 250 bucks, they wouldnt install in LS as they have to do additional wiring.

The look on their face after seeing DTE figures on Beat : Priceless

Better keep it as a secret for the time being from them. Or later they will "Saar, you fiddled with the console and your electric/electronic warranty gone . Don't under estimate these guys. Excuses these guys deliver for denying warranty are mind blowing.

Cheers!

I tried to PM you, but I was not able to send PM because you are not having PM access.
But don't worry - just scan the QR code in my avatar to get my email.

Re: Chevrolet Beat : Test Drive & Review

Since revealing Trip Computer my Beaty has munched 80 odd kms.

Few observations

Outside temperature is pretty accurate.

With DTE it is easy to understand where Beaty is burning more fuel.

In fourth gear around 1600 RPM (speed 40 to 50 kmph) and fifth gear around 1800 to 2200 RPM (speed 50 to 80 kmph) Beat returns excellent mileage and DTE reading unchanged more than 5 minutes. (If the ride is on an open highway then it may last more minutes too).

But in terrible b2b crawling traffic (like yesterday evening) first and second gear around 800 to 1200 RPM (speed 5 to 20 kmph) DTE reading was falling like a countdown reader. For 200 meters it took 5 minutes and DTE was falling 1 KM per say 50 seconds approx. Spirited driving with hard acceleration also made DTE fall rapidly around 2 minutes interval. This gap may come down if we drive 100+ kmph

The average speed in the morning of 17 kms is 28 kmph and back in the evening is 22kmph respectively.

It would have been better if the clock function was displayed throughout (calling for a bigger console).

Cheers!

Vinu

I think I had uploaded a wrong picture earlier.

If you need instand FE figures, get a ELM327 bluetooth dongle and pair with android smart phone or tablet.
Now its available in Ebay India for less than 1K. (half the price in international sites).

Thanks for the links Salbin.
The second one is the Mini reader, which is almost the size of a 1Re coin. I guess you were mentioning about this one when we met.
But I have a doubt. The first reader's version is 2.1, whereas the Mini reader's version is 1.5.
Any pointers what does these version do ? Is it relevant to compatibility with phone ?

In other news, the Mode selector suddenly stopped working today !!
It just shows 0:00 and stays on the Time Spent in the Trip mode.
I don't recall driving over bad roads, so that the soldering loosens. Don't know what's wrong.
Will try to do some testing while driving back home and after reaching home.

OMG! now what's that? It can be a failed solder.

Did you try switching between clock and mode?

Pop-out the dummy console button (now mode button) and look for any loose contact. Try to push the switch upwards/downwards using a thin screwdriver.

Initially it was showing blank screen when Mode was pressed. I tried it the Indian way and slapped the console a couple of times.
Then tried switching between Clock <-> Trip <-> Mode. Now its only showing 0:00 and the other icons there.
Seems to be a loose solder. Nothing major it seems.

Good idea to pull out the dummy button and try to see what's with the tact switch below.
