Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

There’s always something or the other to learn every day. Did not know until today that the spare key given by VW for the Polo actually has a transponder inside! I thought it was just a simple key to open the car through the keyhole on the driver’s door handle.

The circuit has no battery; it is energized by the radio signal itself. The circuit typically has a computer chip that is programmed to respond by sending a coded signal back to the car's immobilizer. If the circuit does not respond or if the code is incorrect, the engine will not start.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

I am bit confused. Is the polo going to be launched in only the 1.5 diesel mill?
What about the old 1.2 3 pot diesel? I dont see any mention of it anywhere...

Yes, the new Polo will be available only in 1.5 diesel - but with two states of tune.. the regular one around 83 BHP & for the GT around 105 BHP.

One more question - does your Comfort line come with ABS and airbags?
Yes, the comfortline comes with ABS and two airbags. Also comes with a 2DIN system, like HL, rather than the previous single one.
This is a stand-alone Bluetooth Unit.
Net OTR came to 756,008.

I was primarily looking for ABS+Airbag(2) combination. The comfortline suited most of my needs. The only difference now between this and the HL are the climate control and steering wheel controls.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Volkswagen dealers have started accepting bookings for the new Polo (no news of the GT variants), the first units will be delivered to customers after the car is launched on 15th July. Booking amount stands at 50,000 .

The Polo facelift will be available in 3 trim levels, Comfortline, Highline and Highline+. The trendline trim name from the older model will not be used for the new car.

It is confirmed that the new Polo will get a 1.5-litre diesel engine and will be available with two power ratings .

Am I seeing things or have they gone back to the pre-facelift non-smoked headlamps? And I think I prefer the alloys on my 2013 Polo to these new ones. The thinner spokes look delicate, and take away from the "less is more" design philosophy.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Yes, the alloys look a little odd, IMO. Thick and thin spokes look too messy. Would have preferred the alloys with just the 5 thick spokes or the ones that are available internationally. Would have been great to see some interior pictures as well. Im guessing, the next couple of weeks have a lot of leaked pictures of the new car.

A few pictures of the new polo, sent in by a friend.
The MID font has been changed and it looks pretty neat!

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

So the new flat bottomed steering wheel is confirmed - perhaps the best addition to the new Polo. The spare key seems to be the electronic keyfob type going by the snap. Dead pedal is also in. Inverted L-type head restraints for the rear seat. The reflector inside the tail lamps have changed from the existing model. The faux Alu. trims in the centre console look awkward. The gloss black ones were better IMO.

Please ask your friend to send some snaps of the engine bay.

Haha, I don't know if that's possible Gannu. The friend got it from his SA. But I will try!
According to the SA there will be no GT TDI. Just the 1.5 TDI in two states of tune, which are 75 and 105 bhp. The one with the higher state of tune doesn't get any GT treatment. I hope this isn't true!
Bookings start June 15th.

Reinventing the wheel?

Seems like a ridiculous fad to me, although, as I mentioned before, I see other companies do it too. Wheels are meant for turning, right?

Functionally, the flat part at the bottom is supposed to help bulky people with the ingress and egress. Aesthetically, it transforms the cabin to give it a sporty look. May not appeal to the older generations though. That is to say, my father may not be able to appreciate this difference.

Hey Suraj, would you be able to get your friend to find out from his SA if the updates like the dead pedal, L-type head restraints and the flat bottomed Steering would be available as counter spares? Interesting if we could use these upgrades for the pre 2014 models.
