Do keep in mind that a bigger diameter tire will result in reduction of torque/ power delivery at the wheel. You will also have to slip the clutch more than usual to get the car moving and you'll also notice that the gear ratios have effectively become taller.

This is something that I have noticed which is rarely mentioned in the forum. In fact, I'm going back to stock size at the next instance.

A slight correction is warranted. There is drop in performance at high speeds where the engine has to rev more to put out the same speeds as with stock tyres. However, the mileage has increased considerably. The combined average is 18kmpl.

I would highly recommend the tyres for anyone facing gc issues and mainly drive at speeds below 90-100 kmh.

Issue:

Now that the polo has once again become my daily drive I am trying to sort out minor niggles which were earlier ignored.

The issue I am facing is of a squeaky clutch which gets hard with continuous driving. During my only trip to the mountains the car was giving out a harsh metallic sound on releasing the clutch while climbing slopes at slow speeds, basically when there was clutch slip under load.

Could the two be related? What is the solution?

Thanks.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Hello, There is a slight dent on a bonnet + bumper(s) damage in my Polo after a minor incident last week . I am planning to use my insurance coverage (zero dep), just wondering how long these kinds of work (number of days) typically take at VW Bangalore or VW Palace Cross or any service centers in TN? My current insurance service provider doesn't have a cashless option with VW service centers. I do not want to get the work done at a multi-brand garage.

The damages are on the bonnet (just above the place the logo sits), bumper and number plate.

Thank you in advance.

Post a picture? I'd still suggest a good paint shop rather than VW.

VW after-sales service seems to be outlet dependent, but I have been extremely happy with the accident/painting work done by my usual dealer. It comes at the same price as my independent garage too.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Does anyone know of a reliable service centre in Hyderabad for a 2015 Polo. I'm currently in Chennai, and German tech is well regarded here for Volkswagen service, but it's nearly 70 km from my place. It's difficult to give the car for service and then get it back. I'll anyway be going to Hyderabad this month end, so I thought I could get the service done there.

In Chennai... I have always been happy with the Whites Road guys, for service and body work. If you want to go independent, there is Ignite, down south, who are very decent people.

I think there's a guy in Ambattur too, who specialises in VAG, but that's very far from me and I haven't investigated.

Thank you. Ignite is on ECR? That's a little manageable for me. It's probably the same distance as the VW service centre on OMR but I'm looking for a good independent garage now that the car crossed 5 years and 1 lac km.

Yes, just before the junction with the Sholinganallur road. Raghav is a good man: got into the business purely because of passion for cars and engines.

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Folks, need a suggestion from you guys, I am sure I am at the right thread.

I am currently in the market for a used Polo (Petrol) - for my wifey. It will be her first independent car and we are therefore in the need for a good solid & reliable car (for her daily commute of about 20km overall). As you might have guessed by now, I am clearly not keen to fall for the usual Koreans & Suzuki's. Driven a Figo TDCI for 5 years ,owning a Jazz IDTEC for last 5 years which is doing excellent. Polo will therefore be an additional car for us.

Currently I came across a Polo Petrol 1.2 Highline (2016 model, 43000 km in ODO):
1) what do you guys think I should pay for it max? Is >4L price worth it?
2) Any known issues of 1.2 Polo which I should be prepared for?
3) Howz the service network in Kolkata, will the service cost go thru the roof? Reading thru the forums, it doesn't seem so.
4) Many people around me are advising against an used VW - as expected. So I am a bit tensed to justify my decision & therefore looking for you guys inputs.

Hello Everybody, I am a new member to this group and this is my first post, So this is the story on my car and how she came to me. Hope you enjoy it

KA 22 P 3210 the Volkswagen polo was brought by my grand mothers brother in the year 2011 as a anniversary gift, as he brought it he drove it for a few days and found it to be a bit cumbersome to drive around the place he lived which is in the inner city. the roads are small and crowded there so he found himself driving his alto more often, after a while he pretty much stopped using the polo and it just sat there in the sun for quiet some time, by then they planned a trip abroad and decided to leave the cars at our home while they are gone. once they returned they decided to take the alto and leave the polo at my house since in the city people were spitting on it, scratching the paint and doing all sorts of horrible things to it, he felt it would be safer in our hands than in the city and thus it landed at our house.
By the time she came she was already in a pretty bad condition both her logos were stolen, her antenna was stolen, the paint was sun faded and the outside plastics were completely faded, she had like 13000 km on the odometer. My Father drove her alternatingly with our older Tata Indigo CS for the first five years (it came to our house back in I guess 2013 or 2014)and he loved it so much that when he decided to go for a new car in 2015 he brought a polo, since I was a kid of age 12 back then I just didn't know how to drive , but then I finished school and joined college and I needed a ride, as we had her we decided to let me use her.
As she came into my hands a (car crazy dude) the first things I did was do a proper check of things wrong with her and it goes as follows:
1.not serviced properly since only 5000 km was put on her in the past five years
2.faded paint
3.tyres completely dry rotted
4.a rattling noise from the boot
5.a pretty loud squeak from the front suspension

I started to tackle these problems quickly to get he into a good shape again.

Step 1: Full car service done at Volkswagen, while at Volkswagen the horror stories came through and I don't know what they did in 24 hours but as she came back the rear dampers were shot, I launched complaints spoke to superior VW executives got fed up and decided never to go back to VW to get
my car and my dads car serviced. I got the OEM dampers replaced with a new OME set at a local garage. this completes the mechanical part.

Step 2: I got my car detailed by a local detailer where in I got a complete interior deep clean and a cut and polish done which got the paint back to life and she started to look Beautiful again by this time I had already installed new logos and an antenna on her.

Step 3: I got new yokohama 175/70/14 Blue Earth GT rubber for her and replaced the factory tyres. once I did this I noticed a significant difference in the way she drove she was much smoother and gripped soo much better and also the NVH levels reduced significantly.

Step 4:the boot rattle was just a missing clip, replaced it and that took care of the issue

Step 5: the front control arm bushings are squeaking this is next on the list.

After doing all these there is a night and day difference between how she came to me and how she stands now she is currently parked in front of my house in her full glory under a shed and I use her an my daily driver.

Considering the prices of the current new cars, and the polo being only 5-6 years old with just 43k kilometers on the odometer, and a highline trim, upto 5 lakhs is a good value for it. Considering the rest of the condition of the car is okay and no mechanical issues.

Get the car checked from a garage, they will give you a proper opinion of it. You will have to change the tyres now if the first owner hasn't changed them yet.

If you will stick to an independent garage, yearly service will not cost you more than 6k, the car is not expensive to maintain, the manual 1.2 is a simple car, don't worry about it. You can even get zero depreciation insurance for 7 years if you want complete peace of mind.

There aren't any known issues, I have a 2014 1.2 highline polo and haven't faced any issues yet, just the normal service and parts replacement. Just check switching between various AC modes(face, feet, windscreen) the center AC vents stop giving out air, due to an air distributor flap getting stuck.

Check high speed braking, the brake rotors from the factory are not of good quality and cause vibration in the steering at the time of braking, getting new rotors is a solution for this problem. Check the front suspension for oil leaks. A whole lot depends on how the car was used and in what condition, a garage would you a good idea about the condition of the parts.

A big welcome to Team-BHP, and to our group of Polo fans

It is great to see how you have brought this car to a like-new condition: truly a re-birth! Wishing you many happy km and years together.

VW aftersales is a mixed bunch. I am happy to say that I have been lucky, with no complaints at all. Even so, now that my 2014 GT TDI has reached a point in its life when a fair amount of money needs to be spent, and the warranty is long-since over, I am going independent. But I am also lucky to have a high-quality, known independent not far away from my home.
