The new corolla's bookings have started.
But launch is on May 27th, when pricing and specs will be disclosed.
Deliveries will commence late June.

Information from shinrai toyota in mumbai.

I personally like the new altis. Just wish the diesel had a better engine, and that toyota gave us the option of black interiors as opposed to the beige they will launch.

Re: Toyota Corolla Altis (1.4 D-4D) Diesel : Test Drive & Review

Just got to know that Toyota Corolla gets a 2.0 l diesel motor producing 126 hp and a 2.2 l diesel motor producing 136 hp.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_AD_engine

Why don't they get this in India?

Has been offered in Europe for ages, and even under the hood of Lexus IS.
And the reason why Toyota is not offering it in India is just unfathomable. Read in ACI that they didn't plonk it in Corolla as it won't be able to accomodate the engine.
AFAIK, the Auris is the Corolla with different styling and name, so what's stopping them?
The engine maybe ready to be phased out in Europe, but its sophisticated enough for India. Put the 2.0l in Corolla and plonk the 2.2l or a retuned 2.0l in the Camry and see the sales fly.
With the new Elantra, Toyota just can't afford to sit still.

This is not true. The 2.0 Liter deisel corolla is sold in South Africa. Check the South Africa Toyota website. The primary reason is that the 1.4 is manufactured in India for Etios/Liva so it is much cheaper to use local produced 1.4 D4D than importing the 2.0 Liter D4D Engine for the Corrolla.

Re: Toyota Corolla Altis (1.4 D-4D) Diesel : Test Drive & Review

Toyota has insane profit margins on each car sold. The Altis with its puny 1.4 L engine already costs so much. With the added costs of a 2 L engine, the costs will probably be at par with the Skoda/VW or might even surpass that. That would beat the purpose of the car and hence I feel Toyota is happy continuing with the current set up.

The corolla with 2.0 l will make it more expensive, but I think it's well-worth it.
Skoda/VW have horrendous ASS, Chevrolet's interiors are not inspiring, Elantra has simply not picked up. The toyota corolla makes a strong case for itself with the 2.0 l diesel.

I think there's a huge cost-advantage there. Just like maruti's shared interiors with different colours, the 1.4 l is being used in different states of tune.
But toyota have to pull up their socks and start geting the 2.0 l diesel to India. And Skoda/VW/Chevy will be sweating if they do.

Are you sure the 1.4L D4D is locally manufactured? I thought I read somewhere that this is imported.

Well, if you have insane profit margins then a very easy way to maintain the price line would be to reduce those margins so that net-net there is no effect to the customer. Greed is a different matter altogether. Toyota wouldn't survive with India-like pricing strategy in a market like the U.S.

Not sure what you mean by Elantra hasn't picked up - it is the largest selling car in the segment.

Corrolla with 2.0 liter engine will definitely give Skoda a run for it's money. Skoda purists will always argue that Skoda is a much better drivers car and performance car. They are true, but how long can you drive a 17 lakh car with a sword hanging over your head.

+1. I agree.
That is exactly why Toyota should do the same. It's sad to see skoda ASS and Chevy's inconsistency in quality.

MODS: I am unable to find any review on the new corolla 2014. Can some one guide me to any thread on 2014 Corolla?

Thanks Severus, I have already gone through this thread. It is very detailed in nature.

But I was looking for an official TBHP review and could not find any.
