Higgs, I'm not competent to comment on this. Whether you change the air filter or get the remapping done, be aware of the warranty implications. I would not want to jeopardize my 4 year warranty by doing any of these unless the authorized service center okays it.

Re: Fiat Linea T-Jet : Test Drive & Review

My jet is throwing up an air bag failures warning at times while cranking. Took to FASS today, they told me that the battery is weak, that is causing the warning.

Is this the case? Suggestions would help me.

This is a well known symptom with Puntos and Lineas when the battery goes weak. It may last for a few more months as it happened with me before going dead, how long did it last ?

It's the battery issue. Happened with me for a month in my T-jet. Finally disappeared once I changed the battery.
Another issue I faced was the boot lid button not responding. I could only open the boot through remote key. This problem was also automatically resolved after changing the battery.

Thank You

The car is only 1.4 years old, I think its a premature case for battery.

We have note the point, that battery does not fail completely without any symptoms. If the electrical circuit is not completed with weak battery link, it gives you lots of warnings. That's what I liked about the circuit. I was running the car over a month with various symptoms. Once I switch of the engine and switch on it goes off. And after a long time if you switch on, it comes back.

Even i was of same opinion that there would be early warnings for battery failure. However when battery for my getz failed, there were no symptoms at all. Battery went dead without any previous warning. It had served me well and lasted it's full life.

1.4 years is certainly premature for a battery to fail.

Check the warranty on the OEM battery. If it's only 1.4 years old, it should be replaced in warranty.

The battery on my Punto MJD is about 2.5 years old and occasionally shows airbag failure. I'm just continuing hoping it will last for a few more months.

Please check after how many Rev the ignition click. If we overdo it, you may stain the alternator. Correct me if iam wrong. If any early symptoms is there please change the battery or you may strain other mechanicals

Re: Fiat Linea T-Jet : Test Drive & Review

hi shijinpr,

1.4 years is definitely not the span of the OEM exide. It is a premature failure. Check your alternator and is the car low in running? The airbag failure is a false alert for low battery in Linea's and in some cars the car security warning lamp also comes up which indicates a voltage drop. Anyways there should be a reason for the battery failing so early. Check the alternator and reset the codes and try with another battery and see if the warning comes up again.

PS: My Linea MJDs OEM battery lasted for 4 years.

With the Koreans, it is a simple case of either ON or OFF.

With the Italians there has to be drama involved. Flair is what they call it.

Re: Fiat Linea T-Jet : Test Drive & Review

Exides are known for premature wearoff. One in my palio lasted 2.5 years and in my jet lasted 2 years. 1.4 years is not an exception given the way car was used. Dont worry too much, get an amaron.

Is it specific to the T jet? Or Fiat cars? Otherwise batteries tend to last for 3 - 4 years unless one is abusing the battery. My OEM battery on the K10 is going strong as I approach 3 years in a month.

It's like general thumb rule on the battery market. They say that OEM Battery are designed to work probably 1.5 yrs, but some battery works further for these days but again how we use it which totally counts.

I came across this article

Why Is My Battery Draining When My Car Is Off?

The battery loses capacity from self discharging. If it is connected to your car, it could also have a small load from accessories or car computers that will draw current from the battery which will also aids in the battery losing capacity if it is not being recharged. Bad cables causing short circuits and bad alternators which don't effectively recharge the battery are sometimes the culprit as well. If you suspect a bad alternator you should take your car to a car battery specialist or a mechanic that can test the battery and check for parasitic drain.
