re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Seems to me that these are examples of the Mahindra Customization effort, and not factory fitted Thar.

Let us hope that the AC+Heater and a Hard Top come factory fitted soon. Interiors can be taken care of by specialists much better (and cheaper) than factory.

Whats wrong with Mahindra, cant they do better than local rod benders, though the design is ok, the workmanship is of the Nth class. Cant they stitch a decent top , OMG and then the crowd going Kya gaadi hai. Totally cheap .One of the worst snorkel Job i have seen.

Vikram look at the horizontal pipe coming out of the hood, it should be parallel to the hood's lower line.

Sandeep you are spoilt by the outstanding workmanship of Hyderabadi Jeep rebuilders

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

I was planning to buy one after this AutoExpo, provided if I
1)Get chilled air while driving in the noontime. In another words, an AC.
2)Get peace of mind from the fear of someone steal it with some duplicate keys. In other words, an engine immobilizer.
3)Can lock my luggages safely inside the vehicle.
I think the first 2 requirements are met. But what about the 3rd? Any hope other than aftermarket experts?

Vikram,

Coming to the snorkel,

It slopes backward on the horizontally.

Stands out like an antenna, could end it at the height of the A pillar.

It is a very simple two bend job, instead an elbow has been shoddily welded.

Sandeep,

Agree with you all the way.

The front bumper, is it Vijay's?

The most ill fitting soft top with a hundred crumple zones.

A lot of pipe bending for just one extra carrier?

The pretentious exo roll cage could have actually been designed to be one.

The light on the L bend pipe on an over sized plate (on the left) in addition to 4 front facing and 2 side facing Hella's, what for ?

The carrier also could have been designed to double up as a swing type cantilevered canopy or retractable awning or roof tent (as in pics. attached) after all it is supposed to be an Expedition class vehicle.

Price will go up but these can be offered as accessories depending on the consumers budget and requirement.

'Thar Expedetion' was on show competing with the best brands at the Autoexpo 2012, opportunity lost with a hurried up prototype though the machine lacks nothing.

Winch is good.
Regards,

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Folks,

I just called India Garage (St. Mark's Rd. Blore) to check if Thar DI and CRDE are avl for a test drive. They said bookings are closed for now!! The saleperson mentioned a new improved (she wasnt clear what) was going to be launched by Mar 3rd week or early April, and bookings would open only then.

Any ideas what these improvements are going to be?? Ofcourse AC would be one..

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

^^^ They are putting in the crappy 75 BHP engine on the DI version of Thar, or so I heard. :-(
Lately I have seen and experienced the exploits of the Thar DI in OTR's at Tijara (Alwar) and Badshahpur (Gurgaon), and have been left absolutely stunned. And this, from an absolute Newbie who was driving it. The vehicle and it's design and performance inspires confidence while Off-Road.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

On my recent visit to Mahindra & Mahindra showroom in Delhi, it was mentioned in the brochure that now the thar is available with AC & heater. The sales representative did not know anything about it, all they had to say was it was a new brochure and shared with me by mistake. I have heard that dealers are more than helpful in installing AC, but has it now started coming as factory fitted?

@Beejay Was your friend able to confirm whether the Thar will be coming with Multi-link Coil Suspension at the rear along with the AC and Immobilizer .
I do remember reading sometime back that the Thar is going to get a suspension upgrade as well

@diveshsingh The AC is not factory fitted as of now, but rather a dealer fitment. You could have been looking at the brochure for the Thar V2, supposedly coming out March this year. I downloaded the existing brochure online and could not find any mention of the AC.

www.mahindrathar.com/pdf/thar_broucher.zip

It would be awesome if you could get your hands on that brochure again so we could discuss "What's new"
