Re: Mahindra Thar : Test Drive & Review - DC Thar!

[quote DHABHAR.BEHRAM, Cool down... it's only a concept. [/quote]

Dear Coolman - come on now, I know it is a concept. But to put things in prespective, I am attaching the only surviving photograph of MH01P2540, an "Invader" concept vehicle made by DC in 1994 (18 years ago). That's me standing at the driver door. This photograph was taken in 1997. This was our R&D project vehicle for which I sat in his workshop and worked on it. Which one looks better, 2540 or the Thar concept? You can decide!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Hey thanks for the photo!

Well, I wouldn't compare the two, because the snap of Invader concept is not very clear, plus the 2 models are 18 years apart.

Interesting to know, are you still associated with DC and team in some capacity?

Thanks,

Just trying to understand his design sense. I own a Thar and frankly speaking, I bought it because the original CJ5 design is appealing in every sense of the word.

Both are outright exceptionally ugly!
I would anyday pick the stock Thar over these!

I agree. The design should have retained the "Thar character" and come out with what would have suited the Thar's masculine nature. Now, I know quite a few of Thar / Thar-like-vehicle enthusiasts would say "leave the Thar alone!". Point taken!

At this point though, all we know is, they chose to do it to a Thar.

Thanks,

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Dear Anirban / Coolman / Trueintrepid / Starter - during the development phase, my one line brief to the Thar team was - "VEHICLE MUST LOOK LIKE JEEP. DO NOT CHANGE THE SHAPE". The whole point of doing the Thar is because it looks like Jeep. It has a timeless shape. If the shape changes, the character is gone.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Slightly OT but how did you manage to name it without the typical 'O' as the last letter that is quite usual with all the Mahindra vehicles lately.
Am sure it would be an interesting story too.
Thanks in advance.

Absolutely.
It's very desirable to own a Jeep, and much more so if it can be used daily so that there is no compulsion to have 2 vehicles. Afterall, mantaining a vehicle is like maintaining a white elephant .

It will be a great pleasure to meet, I will PM you.

Also, eagerly awaiting the write up on how the brakes and steering can be improved.

Best Regards,

^ Must have been the easiest diktat to follow. Why would a company that didnt want to invest in some decent door handles take the effort to stamp new body panel dies?

Cheers

Note from Mod : Please discuss the DC Jeep / Thar in a separate thread. This thread is only to discuss the factory-spec Mahindra Thar.

Its better of with Tharra!

For the braking part, MM should seriously consider ABS with this vehicle.
For the "lifestyle" part, MM dealerships should be equipped to offer Bull-bars, winch, ropes, fogs, shovel, net, etc.
