You can contact Avinash (sales guy) at nine 55 two five 26 nine four 1 .

I TD'ed the Thar and am mighty impressed with the ride quality , flickability and "A/c" . to make matters worse we had taken the TD at 330 pm in Pune heat and the Thar came out with flying colours.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Did you happen to see the colours mentioned in the official brochure for thar? I have attached the picture in the official joke thread !

Also read their official press release for Europe. A simple spell check would have helped.

7.9 on road for the a/c version.

4 colours , silver , beige , black and red .

I also remember seeing a dead pedal in thar refresh. Was it not present in the earlier version?

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

as everybody knows, Thar comes with hard top elsewhere in the world. I am checking with a friend in Croatia about the hard top price there. I will update the details as I get some.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Thar 2012 on road price at Chennai is Rs.7.83lakhs and with 6-8weeks waiting period and also Mahindra dealers here (India Garage and Zulaikha Motors) had informed me that a Hard Top accesscory is indeed available for Rs.45K and would be ready on the delivery date and most importantly its a Mahindra genuine accesscory.

All is well, Though I doubt the last point !

This is as per RAMSEY specification requirements. Engineering information is ready. It is very much doable as an accessory. It must not be done factory fitted as it increases the tax burden. There is also a Roll Over Bar which is supplied to South Africa. It was fitted in MH01V521. It is manufactured locally in Nasik. The Thar CRDe body shell has 14 mounting points provided in it with welded nut plates to accept this roll over bar, meeting South Africa Specifications including seat belts mounted on it so it meets South Africa seat belt specification also. Seat belt specification needs to meet a very high pulling force, it is a very stringent test as it saves lives.

This is just for your information, like this, so many things are possible on Thar and work is complete on most of them. The vehicle by its very nature lends itself to such activities for passionate customers.

I agree with you that at least test drive vehicles should be provided at dealerships. People should not look at the sky.

Dear Harbir - It is sad to read your experience, please don't give up. The vehicle is enjoyable to use, so buy it, see if you can try and ignore these shortcomings. It is a venturi you will have to pass through, I wish I could help but I cannot. Vinod, can you please help Harbir.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
Dear Mr. Dhabhar

Shall be thankful if you could provide details of the Roll-over bar manufacturer in Nashik. I should be getting my Thar this week and do not like the roll-over bar being currently sold as an accessory.

Further, any possibility of giving details of the brake upgrade?

Thanks in advance!!

I sincerely doubt it mate. When a company like Mahindra launches their own hard top, they need to back it up with warranty and extensive testing. We have so many contacts who work in Mahindra or used to work there and no one has any information about this. Dealers are generally the least informed of the lot. If there was a hard top close to release, we would have got the news on this forum by now from company sources.

And my last point is that I doubt it too.

Thats what made me feel more doubtful about the original accesscory claim, because I am sure that Team-bhp would have poured the news before the dealer did.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Bumped into some pics on the "Thar Adventure". Looks super cool. Had seen it on the customised section of the Mahindra Thar website. Anybody having idea about the cost of this beast.

Super interested in getting one.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Did not see the Adventure. Managed to click Thar Expedition, its a customised version and boy it looked yummy! These pics were taken at Mahindra NBS - Chowpatty. The Salesman said its going to be at display at their Andheri outlet from tomorrow. it looks smoking hot. What he told me was that this is for hardcore offroading in the wild (the Nat Geo type). Price also is for the Nat Geo types! 8.15 lakhs on road (Mumbai) + 2.80 lakhs more for the entire set up. Thar CRDE is the base vehicle on which they have customised. (The base vehicle already has AC and power steering as well)

Requested for TD, but was told that it can be organsied by the weekend.

Enjoy the pics!

Thanks for the pics. Did you by any chance check if the rims were standard size or different?

Could not check whether they had changed the size of the rims, i doubt they did, but will ask them when i meet them again this weekend. Needless to say the Thar Expedition has alloys fitted and the Tyres were MTs i.e. mud terrain tyres.

On a differrent note, I was told that the FE is about 11KMPL in city and with the MTs on it could dip to 9 or 10 KMPL. This is interesting because I had read somewhere that as per the ARAI (under test conditions) Thar's FE was at 18KMPL. Going a little off topic but I wonder what really is the sanctity of ARAI rating then?
