re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Hi Guys,

Any idea how we can modify the power steering setup of the THAR CRDe? Find it too vague and need a more positive steering!!

Cheers

Bump 😠.. Any experts please advice if we could replace the existing R&P power steering with some other better system budget not being a constraint. I'm just eager to learn!!

You can try replacing the rack with a manual one and install an EPS from the swift or any other better feedback giving cars.

Otherwise, all steering options for SUV's are vague, over assisted, or lacks absolute feedback.

Thanks dhanush.. If I'm gonna replace the steering system..I'd go away from R & P... My guess is the front IFS geometry playing a major negative role in steering feedback and response

It seems the new model dashboard with the meters is available on Olx. Can anyone confirm whether it is a direct fit to the old model? What about the connectors?

Why would one want to sell a new dashboard? Isn't the thought worrying?

Yeah its most probably fake. The seller was insisting on "shipping" it rather than collecting it by myself. But he did have pictures though.
Said the whole set with the meters cost 17.5k.

Or maybe selling a stolen jeep by parts. Don't see any other reason for him to have this part lying at home.

There is not a such huge demand for the new dash that a counterfeit manufacturer would make money. It could be a stolen one though or maybe a genuine seller who changed his mind otherwise.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Has anyone replaced the fuel cap with a lockable lid or a better one?
The old one is so crude and leaks. Fuel pump guys have a hard time closing it too.

The old one is horrible. You can use the new clicking type from the new Thar CRDe. I got so sick and tired of my old one as your hand would be full of diesel by the time you opened and closed it and I changed to the latest CRDe type. It was done by my tinker in Coimbatore, TN.

Thanks. Will try ordering for it.

Regarding the new dashboard swap its bad news. Spoke to a Mahindra guy and he said the changing the new dash would require replacement of the entire engine wiring, alteration in the steering column and the AC vents. He had done a vehicle and the cost came to nearly a lakh! Its not exactly plug and play.

Will send pictures of the front axles / differential shortly
not at the moment.. I just need to figure out if I can get my hands on longer front axles.. wonder what car these have been borrowed from (I'm thinking Navara,montero.. or the L200)
if anything needs tinkering.. it would be the upper control arms..
