Dear Vikram - good one from you. So you understand. But there are still some who are mentally stuck in knee deep mud. I don't think even an 8000 lbs Ramsey winch would bring them out of where they are. Get the drift? Well, to each his own. We will just move ahead. .

Best regards,

Speedy, I would advice you to hold your mods till RTO deals are done. This is from my own sad experiences with a modded jeep.

Thank you. I doubt you would get an ownership experience report from me as i would not be using this car as a daily or night drive car, but only for offroading with.

Re: Mahindra CJ340 joins Team-BHP family

Dear Arka - when there is a mental" block", no amount of other "blocks" will work because the effectiveness / rationality has been "snatched" by the persons concerned themselves and not by the environment. I hope and trust that the remaining few affected by this syndrome will take my comments positively. .

Dear Sharath - if you feel that this communication is deviating from your CJ340 issues, please feel free to delete the posts without any hesitation. After correcting the steering, please also carry out a coefficient of rolling resistance test on your CJ340. Let's see how effective the tyres are. I am sending you the procedure by a PM.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Sir,

Thank you for encouraging rational thought and effectiveness, it has, made me analytical, helped me make a lot of difficult decision and ask a lot of difficult questions.

Regards,

Arka

Its better to move these posts to one of the THAR threads instead of deleting. regarding the VFM, i just spoke to someone in CKM who is a jeep dealer, his feedback was that the old jeep prices have further gone high after the launch of THAR. people realised its not value for money when they can get the same jeep with compromised engine and their favorite gearbox for 1/5th the price of new jeep. the new jeep is theoretically better and people still prefer the old jeep for their practical needs and for their VFM.

This weekend, as I was passing by a M&M dealer, I stopped by after noticing a Thar with a soft top.

As per that dealer in Bangalore:
  • Only 2 Thar's have been sold till date from that showroom and they have NO more deliveries planned
  • There are some production issues with the Thar and no idea when the next batch will come
  • When asked for when can one get a TD, he mentioned: wait for 3-4 months for a TD
  • 40K for the A/C install. It is a bolero A/C
This is the first time I saw the soft top and I can't imagine an A/C being effective in that. It was like an oven in there and one could not even put hands on the inside of the soft top when sitting in the vehicle.

And yes, the soft top makes it look like a 'people mover' and not a 'lifestyle' vehicle as it is being targeted by M&M.

SVS,

No doubt the vehicile is a Killer. Besides the quality of plastic and final finish, the machine is super strong.

I drove the vehicile on the extreme slush patch, the drive was really comfortable, and the engine was very responsive and smooth, Felt as if I was driving a car.

But the most unfortunate part was, it was getting stuck in slush many time. The wheels were spinning so much, i just couldn't get traction on the wheels.
But then the questing was, were the tyres making the difference, it was running on BFG A/T.
But then there were CJ's with A/T and came out from the slush without any fuss.
We had to rock the vehicile or jerk with the clutch and throttel input to take it out.
I personal feel the vehcile is over powered, and it needs some amount of modifications Such as; front and back locker and MT tyres.

I have been hearing for the last few month, Thar is gonna take off in Palar challenge, but i do reserve my comments, feel its gonna dig dipper in extreme sand than take off.

Am no expert to say that, Ita my feeling after a test drive.
I feel the trubo power and the torque transfered to the tyres will make the wheels spin then pull up.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

What is it with Mahindra?

I) As per a few from Mahindra we were told that the Thar is bare and basic because it has great potential to be customized and that we could customize our Jeep the way we wanted. All of us do understand that this did not mean extreme modifications, but now, the dealers say that adding as little as fog lamps can void warranty.

II) As per what I understand from posts in this thread is that the price being asked by the dealers to fit AC is varying right from around INR 40,000 / INR 50,000 to almost double of that.

III) Next to impossible/ impossible to get a test drive in the cities where the Mahindra Thar has been launched.

IV) Unprofessional delivery of the vehicle to customers/ huge delivery delays.

To top all that, we have what has been mentioned by almost all - the hacksaw finish interiors, off-center steering, lack of any vehicle security and the lack of proper passenger safety.

Sirs, if this is not JUGAAD AT IT'S BEST, what is?

The Thar is yet bare and basic and the people from Mahindra did not lie about it and you still can customize the jeep the way you or anyone else wants too. The only catch here is if you customize through Mahindra, your warrenty stays, otherwise you loose it. Fog lamps is still digestable as it involves wireing and the car has an ECU. What i really want to understand how do alloys and tyres affect the cars warrenty. The size going in is the same as the one on the adventure variant 16x31.

The AC is not fitted by the dealership in their service center, it is outsourced to other garages and Ac fitters. Now depending on what that person is charging to do the work and the Dealer margin you get a quote. Bombay is Rs 42,000 for the fitment. The best part is the person in Bombay was going to experiment with the dealerships thar and then with mine, so i cancelled the Ac. I'll get it done myself from a Professional. If you do it my way, you loose warrenty.

They do not provide test drives as they do not have test vehicles themselves. I myself never drove one, but saw Tejas and Khan saab drive it as i was with them for the Test.

This was with Mahindra owned dealership, a private one would be far better. I believe Shibu bhai has had a wonderfull experience.

Sir please do add uneven body lines and rusty bits. My car even though i have not driven it as it is not yet registered, for what ever God forsaken reason. The car has started to rust. The car left the factory on the 25th of January and today on 8th of Feb it is already rusting.

I definately would ask anyone wanting to put 6 or 7 odd lakhs down for the Thar to think and rethink atleast a lakh times over. It is your hard earned money that you would see rusting away.
