If you see any of our jeeps that have been made SPOA, the on road handling is outright dangerous. It maybe okay with a 63 bhp 2.1 Liter XDP4.9 under the hood, but not with mPigeon engine.

It is best to make custom longer leafs to increase the ride height at rear.

Front for the Thar is a lot more complicated to make a kit.

It is difficult to make a kit for 4WD front suspensions that use the Torsion Bar Set up as the travel/height is limited by the Torsion Bar. I suppose you can make a longer Torsion Bar but welding it into the Chasis etc will be a pain and if not done properly it can be dangerous.

The other type of IFS front suspension used by Toyota etc has the double wishbone arms with struts/coil overs. With this set up, you can put longer set up with longer struts. I don't think this is possible with Torsion Bar set up.

Both double wishbone (strut/coil over) IFS and Torsion Bar IFS have limitation as far as articulation and your travel will be limited by short suspension arms/Torsion bar and short drive shafts. Extreme lifts will destroy your CV joints too. Although this topic has been discussed in lenght, if you want to do a serious lift, you need a vehicle with solid axles with coil springs or leaf springs.

I would also like to inform you that Uncle Mahindra knows what is best for us, so do not devieate from factory spec. In India you do not need air conditioning or hard top, due to the overall pleasant weather and lack of dust/pollution and extremely low incidents of theft of your personal belongings from your Cthar.

So I guess if you have started planning for leh, you need not worry, as very few places cross 18000

What I am concerned about is whether the AC and Hard Top will make it ot India

+ 1 , we have a saying in Punjabi ( must be in other languages also ) a Firangi comes to teach English language to Punjabi and after few weeks he ( Firangi ) becomes master of Punjabi , I am not sure who is going to learn from whom - TATA from JLR or vice versa .

Today I booked a Thar CRde in Rocky Beige. You can tell I simply cannot resist India !!

Dear DKG - I have read all your posts with great interest and also the Thar test drive report . If I recall correctly - you were waiting for a FF AC. I am aware that the FF is not going to happen any time soon. However was wondering if you have any information on the price / time line expected for the dealer fitter AC on the Thar. Are the M&M dealers in Hyd more aware than the Blr dealers.
