so why not 205.60.15 ? i mean on 195 the steering is too light and annoying.

I dont understand why it would be too low profile. Infact it is the better upgrade of the 2 since the overall diameter of the tyre is closer to stock than 195/60 r15. Also the sidewall eg. 55 or 60 is actually a % of the tyre width. So in the case of 185/60 r15 the sidewall is 4.4" and with 205/55 r15 it is 4.4" too.

Its not my opinion, its been recommended to me by tyre dealers as well as known people. Let's hope more people post their experiences. Jesal, what's the % speedo difference between 185/60/R15 and 205/60/R15? The stock tyres on the Highline scream for an immediate upgrade IMO. Been seeing a lot of Vento's lately, suprisingly more petrol variants lesser with the TDi badges. Maybe because they're getting quicker delivery. But there's no badging to differentiate between a Trendline and a Highline, only you have to observe a bit closer to see alloys, painted door handles, etc.

Except most people just go by the profile number and not by the width of the tyre. A 50 profile on a 185 tyre will be waaay to low for our roads, but at the same time a 50 profile on say a 225 tyre will be just fine. The profile changes with the width of the tyre, and not with a rim size.

You should upgrade to 205/55 R15 and rest be assured, nothing will happen. Infact 205s would be better for that powerful diesel.

205/60 r15 is 4% difference from the stock while 205/55 r15 is just 0.5%.

195/60 gives a 117 mm tyre wall height, 205/55 gives 112.75mm. So the difference is about 4 mm. Does it make such a big difference?

195/60 will be fine since its only 2% off stock. I was merely pointing out that people just look at the profile number and say its too low, whereas actually it might not be.

Did you mean the Iyengar shop near Domlur (Near ESI hosp)?. I live near to that place and had a quick chat with him last week. He told me that 205 and even 16" would be fine. But need to check the car first.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Guess 55 on 205 is better than stocks 60 on 185.

Now the next point - we all are talking about 15". How about 16" on Vento TDI? I am really considering 16" and don't mind leaving the stock alloys for that. Comments please. :)

Just saw a white TDI Highline Vento parked in Fidelity parking in Manyata embassy business park. Wondering if the owner is on this forum so I can meet him and get a first hand feedback :)

It's raining Ventos in Cochin. Met few owners and got their feedback. Petrol owners are satisfied as expected. Mileage of 9-10 in city and they can definitely feel the lack of power. Whereas, Diesel owners are completely satisfied. The avg mileage that I got from few of them comes around 15km/l in city (In cochin that's awesome considering the traffic conditions and we dont have roads here lol:)

Spotted a well modded Vento too with upsized tires and alloys with bodykit. Hopefully I should be getting mine in two weeks. (fingers crossed)

In 16" 205/50 R16 would be your best best. No, the profile is not too low for our roads, but you will have to be careful. 16" will look hot on the Vento and should improve the extra light steering the Vento is supposed to have.

Before i decided to buy Cruze, Vento was very high on my list. The very statement "New Torgue King of C Class Sedans" made me hang onto every news about Vento.
Though i liked it's clear lines and understated looks, it was far too similar to Polo from front. Anyways who cares when the stellar of engine is under the bonnet.
I wanted to TD Vento and made umpteen phone calls to the VW showroom on Hosur road since that is close to my place. No luck with TD.
Finally decided to visit the showroom and to my surprise the attitude of the salesperson was "take it or leave it" :Shockked: - With a plain blank expression, i was asked to wait for 3 hours for TD if i wanted one since the concerned person (god knows who that was) was not available.
Grrr... I went back to home thinking it was just my bad luck. Again visited the showroom the next weekend and this time a more pleasant face welcomed me, though no TD was being offered. I asked them for TD and with 60 mins of waiting/browsing through newspaper the vehicle arrived for TD.
I couldn't hold onto my anxiety and the adreline rush (didn't even step into the car yet !!! :) ) and went at fast pace to grab the keys... oops just then i heard ", that was for someone else who had just then entered the showroom inquiring for Passat.
This blew me off and i had to vent out my frustration... Stormed the manager office and took him to task.. My Blackberry helped me get the VW headoffice # in few secs and i began dialing.. To my utter disbelief, the phone was answered within two rings by a warm voice and she could immediately figure out that I was having a bad experience with one of their product.
Promptly i was directed to PR person and he spoke to the VW manager directly. Meanwhile my interest and enthu to drive Vento was slowly fading off !!!
I was more inclined to teach these morons a lesson than to take TD, forget about buying one.
After this i got 3 calls from VW HO as follow-ups but by then my mind had taken a different course...
On the same lane as VW showroom, Kropex Chevrolet has one and the experience with them was just amazing.
Though i went their inquiring for Optra Magnum (prices are now slashed by over a lakh, top end LT comes at 11.7 lacs onroad bangalore), they were more than happy to accommodate me for both Magnum and Cruze TD. I was made to feel special and right from the first step i took into their showroom i was treated with respect and a prospective customer.
I got to take time and write why i preferred Cruze over Laura and others but that will be a different thread.

Coming back to Vento and the dealership experience, i must admit that VW has to pull the dealers a lot more.
I have experienced Maruti's A.S.S for over 8 years and it's the best. By owing Manza, i also have experience their A.S.S which is no where close to maruti but not as bad as VW.
I hope VW doesn't go the Skoda way !!!

Thats what I am hoping for. To be precise - 205/55/R16. How much would it affect the ride quality?. Though some improvement in steering is desired, I do not want too much change.

It would affect it a little bit. On small bumps no difference. But on bigger bumps you will feel them sharper. If you want it for the grip and the looks go for 205/50 R16.

If you want slightly better grip without compromising on the ride, get 205/55 R15 and dont worry.

That was quick. Thanks :). I don't mind a small difference in ride quality, which I hope will be the case with 205/55 R16. With 205/50 R16, section height is less by 8.5mm. For 205/55 R16, its ~1.5mm more.

Btw, I checked with the dealer and looks like we wont lose the warranty with these upgrades. hope thats true.
