Mods, accessories & wheels: AWD Performance Store, Trivandrum
Trivandrum being the capital city of kerala was always in deep slumber with the automotive performance side. The fact is Trivandrum does not have a proper performance store as in Cochin which is now flooded with options and you get spoiled for choices. The case was vice versa down south kerala which was restricted to individuals getting their performance works done in Bangalore, Coimbatore and Cochin.
There was always a market for one but being a resident of the area, I hardly found a one stop place to get things done. Parts were usually sourced from other places and assembled at known workshops. The point was the car was always at a workshop which looked sore to the eye.
Kochi has Petes J garage to cater to all your needs on performance and Code 6, 0-100 autoworx which are the few big names that come into mind when you think of a one stop solution for the enthusiast. These hubs also serve as a meeting point for like minded people to team up and share ideas.
Sharing the crux is that I got an invite to be a part of an inaugural function of a newly opened performance store. It is called AWD which is located in Kazhakottam that’s close to the IT hub of Trivandrum. They had an inaugural offer for performance remaps from Wolf, so I decided to give it a try as a part of the offer. The other highlight was they even had a quick service bay for basic service procedures.
I opted for a package for De-cat of my GT TSi along with a DSG and ECU map which was given for the inaugural offer price. The owner is a qualified mechanical engineer who was teaching in an Engineering College who has ventured into the field because of his passion for automobiles. So, it was like I just had to say what I needed and there was no further explanation on how to get things done. The remap was done by Team Wolf which also had a launch control option for the TSi which I just tested once and yet to master the art of a proper launch at the correct RPM.
The map made the car linear and more refined and faster than the stock map. After a few days of running around I found the stock suspension too soft to my liking. They had suggested SACHS oe replacement as I didn’t want a stiff ride along with Bilstien mounts. Since oil change was due I choose Motul Xcess 8100 which was also readily available. I was also given an given the inaugural offer on Brembo slotted rotors and pads which I agreed as it was too tempting.
Overall, I found the service and experience to be quite good and only hope that they continue in the same level once they cross the honeymoon phase. Enclosing a few pictures of the shop and as a Bhpian would recommend it to others to try out and share their experience.
