Re: Request regarding information on VW Kombi Call it the reliability test or show off. Few reasons for the Team to decide on driving upto Virar - Mumbai. One being, lots of upgrades being done on lots of fronts, and too short a time for christmas delivery. ( entirely my mistake for pushing it this far ) over and above that, parts supply stopped abruptly, we had to scrape through to finish work on time. That was one big achievement., and a really long story to tell sometime later.
Secondly, Nilesh and family comes back to India from U K only for christmas, and sadly the transporters could not promise me delivery before 1st of Jan 2014. ( which makes no sense ), so it was decided by the team to drive the Bus all the way upto Mumbai (1230 kms )
We ( mysrlf, my mechanic Aanji, and Tinker Riyaz ) set off on the EPIC journey on Friday 20th December 2013, starting at 8:45am and reached Kolhapur by 8:30 pm with 2 pitstops. First day we covered 610 kms without a hitch, and touched top speeds of 112 kmph.
Second day morning at 10:30 am I got behind the wheel, what an awesome drive of my life. the Khandala ghats, Lonavla ghats, Yeshwanthrao Expressway. oh, that was heaven. To my surprise and Nileshs shock, I reached Panvel at 1:30 pm with only 1 fuel break. I still cant believe how I did that, while the GPS odo was hovering at 120 - 122 kmph, I was still pushing it as the Bus drove effortlessly. ( thanks to SYGIC s/w from Paragsachania, travel route was a breeze and the maps were 100% precise. ) later Nilesh covered the remaining 56 + 30 kms to his house in 6 harrowing traffichaosed hours due to some flyover construction and a crack on some bridge.
All in all it was soooper fun, the team work and the Bus passed out with flying colors, and I am more than humbled. |
