Re: Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!

Yeah, I wish I had come across this forum atleast during the resto work, I would have insisted that this be done!

With regards to meddling with the bodywork, I anyway need to have the fuel filler system changed from the existing Filler Door to a Filler Cap. I will combine these two things and get it done anyway!

Or else if you'd rather not meddle with the bodywork for now, let the minor 'imperfection' stay on until you get the car done up next. But be sure to have them taken off for good then!

Also,

I came across a guy selling this Dicky Lock with button. not sure how original it is, could be a repro piece. OK to go for this?

Amazing eye for detail. And such painstaking effort! May your tribe thrive! I guess the CAC444 is lucky to find an owner like you. It must be feeling rejuvenated like going through a thorough Ayurvedic massage and going into a Sauna and a cold bath!

I feel sad that we let go of our Austin, I think it was APX 1940 or 1240. If any one knows the whereabouts, at least would like to give a look-c! Have been hunting for a while. Saw it in a heap of old cars when I was too young to buy it. Hope one day will find it. Sigh!

Re: Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!

Personally, I am not a person who would like to own/appreciate 'Old' as Gold Vintage cars; However, your car brought memories back.

My dad had one (with brass number plates and all) and we (my brother and I) were dropped and picked up from boarding school. This school is in Ooty and the fiat used to climb...may not be with ease always...still did its job. these days, new cars struggle to climb.

The hand gear, the boat smile face....some memories.

Best things I like about Vinty...

1. Paint job is great. where (in BLR) did you get it down. from your pictures - seems like RT Nagar
2. I liked the initial seat cover.

Question,

I noticed Vinty's boot cover/lid was slanted. Did you get to correct that?

Congrax and Thank you.

Dear Praveen - the lock is not original because during those days the keys were never black covered but you may pick it up for whatever it is worth.

Best regards,

Re: Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!

Sigh... yet another Fiat / Padmini restoration thread. Everytime I read one of these, I feel like I should start my own restoration project. Sadly, havent found a decent Fiat yet.

Many congratulations to you sir for this fabulous project. Toot your horn with that distinctive Fiat 'beep beep' for us lesser folks who havent started our restoration projects yet.

Thank you Boomerang! The Paint work was done near Infant Jesus Church, Vivek Nagar. The paint job is great in 95% of the places. However, some cracks and bubbles have appeared on the roof and bonnet :( Have to get that looked at later. Overall, Vinty looks fab, I must admit!

Forgot to answer this earlier. The boot cover/lid was corrected during tinkering to fix the bend. It still isnt 100%, but atleast its fixed 99%.

Dear Karthik,

Many thanks for the photographs!

The meet was indeed a wonderful experience. It was such an occasion to see so many Fiats in one place and to meet all the enthusiasts. Had a great time and looking forward to many such meets!

Cheers to the organizers, well done folks!

Praveen

Here are some of the new updates to Vinty.

1. Fiat Horn Cap - a BIG thank you to Prashanth (Voyager) for giving me a spare that he found

Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!-dscn2987.jpg

2. Wheel Caps from Mumbai

Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!-dscn2991.jpg

3. Roof lamps - although these are not the originals that came with this model, they're still better than the hideous ones that I had on earlier!

Restoration of "Vinty", a 1960 Fiat Select 1100!-dscn2988.jpg

Now that I had the User Manual (from John a Milne) for Vinty, I now need get the assembly below the dash done (choke, windshield spray, air vent, etc)

Cheers,
PS

I dont know how i missed out on this thread but CAC 444 has gotten me flying. Thanks so much for this inspiring flow of dedication. Hope my little red-riding hood would see some glitters after I saved her from the hacksaw at the (in)famous chor bazaar. Anyways i enjoy driving around in her "as-it-is" awesomeness. Threads like this keep harping me for getting her into better shape. Just a glimpse of her for you guys.

My dear sir!!

That there, is a beauty! Its quite a thing to get little red riding hood (perfectly named!!) in SUCH an as-in awesomeness from the chor bazaar! Congratulations on owning such a beautiful Fiat. WIsh you miles and miles of driving pleasure!

That looks like the "De Luxe" or special model if I'm not wrong? I got the user manual (from a very kind Team-BHPian) for these models and the twin-tone color and the bucket seats were the highlights of the De Luxe model.

In all, a fantastic car! She looks incredible in her current state, will definitely be a sight for sore eyes when completely done up (I don't think I can use the work "Restored" in your case!)

Cheers,
Praveen
