Nice Bug, Congrats! Did you pick it up from Delhi, the previous owner being a newspaper editor (whose wife was the actual user)? My only doubt being that I seem to recollect that gentleman's car bearing a Karnataka registration.

The 1303 is the best to drive of all the old Beetles, being the most modern of them too. The curved windscreen is the only Achilles' heel of the model, I feel, in terms of the Beetle's main USP - easy maintainability! On the other hand it made space for the padded dash to be incorporated, enhanced visibility from inside, and also gave a different look to the Bug, from the outside.

For ever now, I've been agonsing over my inability to make up my mind on whether the plain vanilla 1200 is my favourite model, the 1302 or the 1303! :)

Does your speedo need a little straightening, or maybe it's just the angle of the pic?

I have the same lady-bug foot mats in my Bug.

C'mon Karl, am sure you know the answer - you've given it too! Plus, you have a photocopied book to refer to, for such questions also, remember? And then, there's a 'L' model as well, to add the confusion. Btw, the 1600s power rating was also different over the years, lowered later.

Wow. A nice car maintained very well. But I must say that the photography is even better.

I learnt how to drive in a 1971 Beetle and a 1951 Morris Minor my dad owned. During my childhood we never had any modern day cars even for daily use at home even though it was the late '80s. It was the Beetle, the Morris and a 1962 Fiat 1100 for us, the latter being a first hand one. The Morris is still there but it breaks my heart when I recall that the other 2 were 'driven' off to be sold as scrap for around Rs 8000 each. I cried for days. Hope to own them again someday.

What a car! People would be definitely envyous of you for owning such a lovely and neat maintained car. Would like to own something similar. Are there any such Beetles? And how much do they come for? please:

Apologies beforehand for going off-topic here. My dad told me that the first ride of my life, the day I was born, was in a VW Beetle. Back in the late 70s. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the little bug that used to ferry my family around in the arid deserts of Libya. My father doesn't remember much about the bug or the VW type2 ambulance that was common in Africa and Arabia during that era. He's a retired doctor and most definitely is not a petrolhead.

As luck would have it, here I am, working for a dealership with same logo over the front door. Unfortuantely, there are next to no classic VWs in my hometown (if there are, they're doing a good job of hiding it!).

Coming back to the restoration of your car, what I'm trying to say is that you and others like you (The Pavan Kadam included) are of a rare breed. The pain, the pleasure and the pride that went into the restoration of this Beetle is so evident for all the world to see. Original it may not be, but there is no denying that your Beetle is looking as young as a car can ever look, 38 years after rolling off the assembly line.

I know that there are more than a few forgotten and abandoned classic bugs scattered across the country, but it takes more than money to bring back the glory of the Beetle. Something that is lost on current Beetle, which is merely an imitation of the real thing.

Found some pictures that were handed over to me by a dear friend, there is a striking resemblence to your Beetle.

The pics are from Chennai take a decade ago and surprisingly the same car had an A/C retrofitment done and with the same bumper spoilers designed in-house. :)

Recently rediscovered another curved dash super beetle in Bangalore after many years. This car was originally close to my house and has been sold on recently. Sorry no pictures but it is very similar to 67bug's car but red in colour.

Yes aware of this red one. Has been on sale for for a very long time. Loads of alterations on it although claimed that all original parts were still with him. Have pics of it somewhere and will post it.
