Dear GunB

The painting was done at the Noida workshop of the famous and renowned restorer Mr. Tutu Dhawan's workshop.

Should you require the mud-guards - let me know - they were supplied by my mechanic and I can ask him to try and get you a set. I still haven't tried them on the bike yet though.

Thank you.

Dear saurabh,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

You are lucky to have your work done at mr dhawan's workshop. The photos clearly show the eye for detail and attention to quality. Will try to call mr dhawan's office if he would be willing to give my bobby a new lease of life.

Would you know of any parts supplier for engine and electrical parts in Delhi.

Kind regards

Gunb

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Hi

Its been quite some time. In all these days have managed to collect a lot of parts required for the bike and started the assembly a couple of days ago.

Its so much fun to work on a freshly painted machine with all freshly coated parts and new parts. Of course a lot of hard work goes into it and one has to be extra careful too as you need to protect the parts from unnecessary scratches, dings, damage, etc.

Here is the latest on the bike for all.

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Hi Guys

Some more slow and steady progress has been made.

When I had my drums painted we missed masking the brake contact areas and they too got painted. So the drums were turned on a lathe. New brake shoes installed. The hubs were already buffed. All new bearings and oil seals are in place. Axle and nuts were already cad plated and ready. So this weekend I was able to install the rear hub and chain guard.

Have completely dismantled the engine though earlier I was thinking I will only buff out the side covers. Now the complete engine has been sent for buffing. New bearings ordered and received - all genune FAG and seals are being procured. Should be able to complete the assembly for the engine by this weekend.

Also managed to get the rear shock bottom bushes and they will go in over the week.

Slow and steady progress.

Here are some latest pics.

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

HI Guys,

Just got a little time to work on the bike. So decided to start prepping the front end for turning over the bike and parking it the correct way as it is still upside down for ease of assembly of the rear hub.

Have installed the yolk bush upper and lower and finished the yolk assembly - ready to take on the handle bar.

Also decided to install the original brake pedal rubber bush that prevents the pedal from hitting on to the metal frame of the bike. This prevents paint chipping and therefore potential for rust build up. Just chanced upon this original part.

Here are the pics for all!

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Hi Guys,

This weekend saw some more progress on the Bobby! The weather outside wasnt too great, friends out of town, kids at the grand-parents home so one could focus and put together a lot more.

As usual this bike too is coming up with all stainless steel nuts and bolts except for the key critical ones which are still original.

The engine case came late on sunday after polish so am a week behind on my engine assembly. In the mean time changed my front suspension bushes, rubber bungs under the stand have been installed, rear brake done, front entire fork assembled ready for the hub and wheel.

Seat is placed not mounted though. Will be done soon enough.

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Thanks Salman!

I like the springs to be in chrome so they are. If you like them in black thats your wish and choice.

Thanks again.

Thanks Anup - you have been a great help all through out I must admit. It was such a pleasure to see you and your bike both and then lending me the manual and the silencer muffler piece. No one does that in this day and age for a perfect stranger. But you did.

Thank you for your support.

I am trying to do my best as I promised you. I can never be as original as your bike but I will try to be there as close as possible.

Warm regards

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

HI Guys

Yesterday evening I got my speedometer back. Mr. Tutu Dhawan personally serviced and repaired it. Gave me a rubber O-ring to go under it too! It has been installed in the headlight cowl last night. Had the attachments zinc plated and kept them ready. The ring was chromed too!

Got an original Switch with the Rajdoot OE part sticker on it along with the OE key too! That is ready to go in once the wiring is done.

Wiring - wow I got an original wiring too from someone who had it lying with him and looking at what I was doing he gifted it for free!

Steering balls were replaced already with the original 6.34mm steel balls that my Bearing Supplier got me.

So far all is well. More to come by this weekend I guess.

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Hi Guys,

And now for all of you I am going to share the most mind-blowing part I managed to get made for my bike!

Its the RAJDOOT GTS plate that I had in original but I could not come up with a proper way of restoring it. So finally I friend of mine got it made for me in stainless steel from a fabricator who exports such parts to various vintage vehicle parts suppliers.

It is expensive but then its for a lifetime now! No rusting or fading.

Its as close as I could go to the original.

Here it is for your comments.

Cheers

The dedication you show towards the restoration of what many would call a 'lowly' Bobby is evident, and truly an inspiration. How was the badge created? Screen printed? Are there distinct ridges/embossing like the original?

Karl as I sign of - If you restore it do it like it should be!

There is nothing "lowly" or high class in my opinion - if its restored it should deserve the best.

Well the plate as I understand from the guys is that it was laser cut, laser etched basis the plate I gave them. The black is enamelled into the engraving. Beyond that I have no ideas as I have personally not seen the process. And it has ridges same as the original plate.

Cheers!

Re: Vatsa Vintage Resurrection - Rajdoot GTS 175 aka Bobby

Hi Guys,

I shared the Rajdoot GTS Plate pics yesterday. Was waiting for the riveting tool plus the 3.5mm rivets so that I could mount the plate on the tool box cover.

Got the tool on loan from Mr. Dhawan and here is the plate duly installed on the cover.

Have also laid my hands on a brand new set of Rajdoot OEM cable set for my bike. It is still packed in the OEM packing and still has the labels from 1976!

Cheers!
