Re: Our Lost & Found Classic - 1954 Dodge Convertible

Whatta story. Brought back memories of my childhood spent in the estates. Have been a silent observer and a good one to read.

The wheels with the hubs look awesome. Where did you source the hub caps. Any contacts available in India, can you please PM me

Re: Our Lost & Found Classic - 1954 Dodge Convertible

It is indeed a shame, that the original Madras state number has been lost, only to be replaced by a Bangalore South one, that is KA05.

Very well restored, nevertheless.

BTW, KPS what grade of sheet metal was used?

Kudos to your team for a brilliant restoration.
Thanks James for your kind comments. I too would have loved to retain the MDN number. In TN, the annual taxes works out very high and if you have arrears, the penalty is 100%. The NOC from TN was taken many years back and if we had cancelled the same, it would have cost us a lot of money. Karnataka is a life time tax system and works out better. Only in Mumbai they have a system where the original number is retained, even though the vintage car is re-registered in MH.

Thanks diwakarmuthu. The hubcap you saw in the picture earlier are one of the two which survived with the car. However these are replacement hubcaps, as they do not have the Dodge name on it. I have sourced a set of 4 hubcaps through eBay which originally came on a Dodge Mayfair, as seen below

These are 4 ply tubeless tyres. We have fitted the tyres with a tube.

Those hubcaps are from the later Plymouth Savoy/Belvedere. Also valuable

Any idea what would be the correct style of hubcaps for the Indian cars? Are they the ones on Amal's Dodge? Your's seem a bit different, but very nice nonetheless.

Yes, Amal's car has the right hubcaps. Here is a picture of the abhinath's car which shows the most common hubcap seen on the 1954 convertibles

KPS the car looks absolutely stunning and as someone put it I am glad you have not gone overboard with all the Razzmatazz. I wish you and your car the very best of luck for the Southern India drive. I will try to however catch up at Bangalore or Hyderabad depending on my work schedule. regards Amol

Re: Our Lost & Found Classic - 1954 Dodge Convertible

On 5th November the car made it home.

She is parked with the Plymouth. Much to our amusement the car is longer than the Plymouth and does not fit in the garage by about 6 inches! We need to figure out a solution

We did not make the Southern Road Trail in the car, as I believed that my experience in driving a left hand drive and judging the proportions of the car was not enough to make this trip. However I did ride in the other cars and the experience was very enriching.

Cheers

Re: Our Lost & Found Classic - 1954 Dodge Convertible

Congratulations, look forward to seeing the car in the metal

To make it fit, try using a couple of axle ramps and making it incline a little

Glad and Sorry to read the above items.

Darn, I should've called you. Weekend I was in town, at least would have been able to see the finished car

Next time for sure

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Nice to see the car finally done and home!
She looks gorgeous, though rather pity about the original period number being lost...but then that's rules!
'hope that one day we could legally purchase age-related plates for classics, like in the UK!
I'm sure you'll get a number of opportunities to take her out for long drives across the country.

Was also nice meeting you (albeit very briefly!) in Hyderabad.

KPS, Hi.

It was great meeting up with you and all our friends, car looks lovely and hopefully you will have driven her enough to get the confidence to join us soon.

My thanks to both Chris and you for being with us all the way to Hyderabad, was fun even though you were in a modern car. To meet up with enthusiasts along the way and exchange views was one of the highlights of our drive.

Next time no excuses, the 54 must join

As much as I missed the drive in the 54, I have had a lot a learning riding in the Packard and Buick during the drive. This experience will stand the test of time.

Chris and I spoke a lot of the driving skills exhibited by all and you in particular. Let me tell you, we both are mighty thrilled that we were part of this experience, albeit in a small way.

The 54 will join the next run for sure.

Cheers
