re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Time for some updates guys...the project started in early November 2014 with a target of about 12 months to completion. So far we have managed to complete 50% of bodywork with removal of all the rot that had been accumulated over the years. Also the brakes, Engine and Gearbox are being completely overhauled as I am posting this. I shall be visiting Delhi in February for a personal review of the ongoing restoration work. Mean while here are some pics of the progress.

re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Hi,

There has been a fair amount of work that has been already completed so far. Complete overhauling of the front and rear suspension has been completed and the refurbished suspension with new titanium bushes et all has been bolted back on to place.

Also complete overhaul of the engine has been done. The engine along with the transmission is waiting to go back in once the painting of the engine bay has been finishedm. The car is back on the assembly line as on today.

The complete bodywork along with the underbody is done and now the tasks remaining are painting, interiors and detailing. We hope to be ready with the car by February 2016.

Here are some pictures to shoe the progress on the car:

I suggest you look at the old pictures of the roof to see how badly it was damadged and a fair amount of time was needed to rectify that anomally.

Its a very difficult item to grab these days. New ones are almost impossible to find. Its better to look around for used ones in good condition. I'm also restoring a w110 fintail in Kerala.

Merc_Lover, any updates to share? Body work seems pretty good. Eager to see the end result.
Not sure if you already managed to get front quarter glass beading, i came across this seller in ebay who happens to be from India! Prices are a bit expensive i think.

re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Hi All,

I am glad to report that Tutu sir had completed all the mechanical work in the month of January 2016. Since then work on aligning body panels and tightening the shut lines etc has been going on, also work on the interior has been completed.

Now the only things that remain are painting the car and putting all the things back in the places where they belong. I feel I should have the car back with me in the second half of June.

Here are some pictures of the progress so far. Will now give a final update as and when I go to pick up the car.

Re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Merc_lover 666, congratulations on the exquisite restoration job. Please post several more photos of the inside and the out side. Yeh dil maange more. Now this is a car one would love to drive daily. The sheer regal stately looks of Merc cars of the 1950s to 1980s simply isn't there today. They lost it trying to look sporty like BMW.

Re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Awesome job Merc! Really happy to see end result and very encouraged now to pick the W116 and W123 and start prodding and poking till I reach the state of finish you have achieved.

Well done mate!

Only one query are those tyres to spec, seems like they could do with a bit more profile. But still really you managed to get white walls in this day and age.

I would use it as a daily drive, what a tank! Everytime I go up and look at the photos I have another set of praises racing through my head.

Congrats!! I'm so happy to see a no-compromise restoration done. Awesome work done by Tutu Sir and his team. Can't stop drooling at the pictures. This baby deserves a comprehensive photo-shoot.

Re: 1967 Mercedes W110 Fintail LHD - Restoration EDIT: Completed!

Thanks All for the wonderful wishes and compliments. The entire credit for all the hard work put in must go Tutu Sir and his team they did a wonderful job. My humble opinion on matters related to restoration is that it is best to entrust the job to a professional and limit one's role to bankrolling the project. I have personally come across many restoration projects where in either the originally of the car was compromised and in some cases where the owner was trying to make a very meticulous restoration he far overshot the budget that with which a professional restorer would be able to easily execute a similar project.

My experience with Tutu Sir has been a very pleasant one and would highly recommend his name to all friends who are looking at restoring a vintage or a classic car as the man is a walking mine of knowledge and he definately knows his job. Look no further if you are not ruled by a budget and want a completely hassle free experience restoring your car to exacting standards and specification.
