Congrats for the GTS.
Spares won't be a problem, as the engine is same as its other family members. Being in Delhi there is no problem getting it in shape.
Request post a photo when it gets a face lift.

i don't intend to restore it cosmetically, will keep it largely as is, the paint has come up nicely with regular polishing, with another year or so of polishing it should get back its gloss, i will however restore it mechanically when i get the time, and also replace the rubber parts and cables. other than that, its in a time warp condition. and apparently its the rarest colour on a bobby, perhaps because nobody liked it when it was new. the most popular I'm told, were the metallic blue and red.

Yes awini, the most popular colours were mettalic blue and red. I suggest, you take a stroll in the bye lanes of auto market in Karol Bagh and you will end up getting most of the things you require for the bike. You may end up getting another bike parked at some mechanics garages' dark corner. The trick is not to ask for the bike directly, ask him what all he has to offer?
There's another shop come up in Karol Bagh which has been selling restored and unrestored two wheelers only. Anybody who is ready to shell out more, can have a look in that shop.

Hello!
Its really nice to see that there are quite a few bobby fans.
My dad owns a bobby which he purchased in 1979. I do remember the day he rode it from Pune after buying it to Bhira which is near Mahad on Mumbai-Goa highway which is about 250 km. The bobby has been with us all along and giving perfect service.Just recently we have got it restored/painted/the engines been done too. I could not find the rubber pads on the tank. Rest is available in Pune, only one has to scout.Does any body know where I can find the pads in Pune. Apart from the stepney the GTS had a dicky too on the other side.
Will post the pics. The original colour of the GTS was metallic red, now has been changed to a silver /magenta colour combo.
Rgds,
Naj

Gee, I never knew the Rajdoot GTS ("Bobby") would become a cult classic. There was this dude who had a ratty blue one when I was in college in Kerala in the mid-80s, and we used to laugh when we saw him scooting along. The ultimate chick magnets in those days used to be Yezdis with "free-flow" exhausts. The Bobby was considered little better than a Luna. How times change!

How come no one has mentioned a GTS older than 1979?
I finished college in 1975, and I used to ride one during my last 2 years there.

I used to ride a Blue GTS back in 1980 or was it 1981. DEZ 8567. This was the first vehicle that I ever owned - so it was special. I had removed the mudgaurds & put "sports type" handle bars the engine was painted black .... it was quite a headturner (or so I believed)

It was an extrememly quick machine by the standards those days & on a short run could outrun a Yezdi. Well memories ....

Nice to see this old classic revived iin memory

Cheers

Guys, check out the DEC issue of Autocarindia, there is an article about the Bobby GTS175. The Bobby featured in it belongs to fellow tbhpian vinaygurav.

Came back without buying any thing.

D'you suppose there might soon be a time when a GTS might be possible to exchange for a brand new Santro?
