Your tail light glass is from a jeep, IIRC?

I think the number plates look better in their stock position.
Thank you anup, glad that you liked the bike.

Handlebars are original AFAIK

The Black box is the original box within which the Air filter is fitted

Chain half-guard is missing, yes I am in the lookout for one

The tail light is the GTS's tail light, hence left it as it is on the bike eventhough it is slightly dull. IIRC, girishpv has the Jeep's taillight retrofitted on his Bobby.

The rear number plate is missing and I have to have one fabricated, waiting to chance upon a original number plate to take the dimensions from it. However the front number plate is very much on the bike when the previous owner bought it new.

Need a GTS for my Bobby

Hello Guys,

If you guys come across a Rajdoot GTS in good a reasonable condition, please let me know. I want try and get one under the excuse of it being for my daughter. She just turned 18 and thinks she would love to ride a bike (she now rides a cycle) and after me to get her introduced to my first love - RD 350.

I don’t think that is good idea as RD 350 is not for beginners besides my daughter is just 4’ 10” in height. That is why I am thinking of the GTS. If its’ passing fad for her then I would be left with a classic

So if any one knows of such a specimen please let me know

Regards & Ride Safe

Ram

The handle bars seem too flayed and wide. Do not seem original.

The black box air filter is something I've never seen! GTS bikes all came with the small circular air filter casing with a lever to open/shut the segments!

Check the pics of desideep's GTS on the same page as your bike pics. Even that GTS does not have the chain guard!

Rear number plate size: (inches)
Top: 5¼"
Bottom: 7"
Height: 6¾"
(Trapezium shaped).

The front number plate seems to have been fitted by a dealer. I do not think Escorts did that.
The number used to be painted on the chrome plated mudguard: White letters on black background.
Some dealers fitted a rectangular plate on the front fork, just below the headlight.

And yes, your tail lamp glass is OK.

Hey anup, I am really thankful to you for the number plate dimensions. Great stuff there mate.

Regarding the handlebar, I did enquire with the previous owner who has had this bike since new, he feigned ignorance on a change on this. Maybe, he has got it wrong. For all that he told me was other than the chain and sprocket set change once. He has not had to change anything on this bike. Probably a change somewhere in between could have skipped his mind?

The front number plate could have been a dealer issue, you are right for I just cross checked with the GTS advertisement in some other thread and it was non existent. However, I guess I shall retain that, for it being a period accessory and the inconvenience of closing the holes in the Fr mudguard and rechroming it.

The air filter box has me stumped though. Could this have been a fitting that was added on the later models of the GTS? For, I have seen many GTS in and outside the forum with the exact same filter box. The aforementioned advertisement though belies that, but that ad also seems to be a very early advert for GTS.

EDIT: anup, you seem spot on about the handlebar. I just checked the video of the GTS in "Bobby" and yes indeed there has been a change somewhere down the line in my GTS.

Most 2 wheelers in Hyderabad sported this style of regn. plate in the front. Perhaps it was legislation?

I think pre 80's the air filter were open but post 80's did come out with this type of filter box.
My 78 model has different (with no box) but 84 model has filter box.

So is the case of the Rajdoot engraving on the engine casing. They seemed to have disappeared in the models after 1980.

Karl : seems to have got it right. In fact am sure Stanher and Karl were discussing something to this end in another thread IIRC. Where is Shyam when you need him. Hollerrrrr.

Hmmm I know this model filter, I have got one. I bought it for Rs.500 thinking that it is for my ex-RE Crusader. But later I learnt it was not RE Curusader's.

I think the one shown in your red bike is the same air filter produced by Villiers. Here is the picture of Air Filter that I own.

Sorry for the bad picture quality as it was taken with low light and mobile camera, later tinkered to post in a single file ;-)

This air filter could belong to the RE Sherpa with the Villiers engine?

The following link has a pic of the same filter on one of these specimens.

Yes.

RE Fantabules, RE Crusader and RE Sherpa were all the bikes/scooters used the Villiers engine.

No I could see, Villiers air filter in the Sherpa. Probably the person who sold the air filter to me got confused with Sherpa and Crusader. Now I can say they both looked identical except the headlight dome. Here the picture of my Ex-RE Crusader.

What I understand (confused ?) after reading this post and going back to the old posts in this thread is that Rajdoot GTS came with one box type air filter, two or three model (?) round shaped air filters. May be I'm wrong or may be few of the GTS listed in this thread used villers airfilter due to unavailability of Rajdoot GTS round shaped airfilter. Please see the pictures below:

Red and Orange color bike with tank pad got Villiers model Airfilter and the Orange color bike without tank pad got some thing different (Is that the original Rajdoot airfilter?

I remember very clearly that my uncle's Crusader had the exactly the similar Air Filter as in the Orange GTS without the tank pad. Probably, they were interchangeable with the Rajdoot?

Ah... I didn't remember and no picture of what exactly the model airfilter fitted on my ex Crusader. But sure it was not the round shapped, because when I bought and tryed to fit on my bike, I saw a different one, hence the air filter was never used.

Now, i'm thinking again you may be right. The bike I had would have been replaced the stock airfilter with something else and I assumed the *"something else" as original.

reInvention: Hence Rajdoot and Crusader airfilters are interchangable.

Yes, that's the original. Those inlet segments can be adjusted for degree of opening! There's a lever at the edge that is used for this.

BTW, the gear shift lever in this bike has been modified for heel operation.

One more finding, the orange colored bike with tank pad got few RD350 items on it.

1. The head light dome
2. Tail lamp

The headlight ears from RX100.

THAT orange coloured bike is very very far from home!

Too many items that are not original!

I'm not even looking at it!
