I haven't been to Bangalore in ages but now I really have the incentive to go and check out your beauts.
We all know the value of cars being in long term ownership. Buying from such long term owners is always enriching, as we get to map the history of the car. Look forward to your visit to Bangalore

Opened this thread casually and was mind blown going through all the history and detailed paperwork. Wow!
Thanks CrAzY dRiVeR. I was just very lucky. Such owners are not motivated by money as they enjoy ownership and use. Maintaining relationship with such previous owners is also enjoyable, as they like to get updates from time to time. I hope to drive the car back to Kochi and show him, post restoration.

Congrats KPS, thats a good fun project! For some reason a beetle has always stayed out of my garage. But i am told they are very enjoyable cars. Looking forward to the transformation soon.

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

What an amazing find. This is another lovely addition to the already beautiful collection. Eagerly waiting to see the original color back.

Wondering how the thiruvalla vehicle got an Aleppy registration ! And I thought all the beetles that originated from Germany were LHD. These questions are only out of curiosity though the original intent is to appreciate KPS and his passion for cars.

Thanks sunishsamuel. With respect to the registration, the Kerala experts JayD or Ajay99 could answer better.

If you recollect the original invoice, Model Type 114 is mentioned. Model Types, post 1966 are as detailed below

I am sucker too for original colours. However, I have always looked at period colour options before deciding. The Plymouth and Daimler reflect the period options available for the respective model years. With the Beetle, will stay with Java Green.

Thiruvalla was part of Alleppey District till 1982 when Pathanamthitta district was formed.
Wolfsburg, Germany was the main Manufacturing plant of Beetles till 1976 and Both LHD and RHD cars were produced.RHD only plants were in South Africa,Australia etc

Headlights changed from 1968 models(August1967 production) only.

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

Firstly, very happy for Kaizer as she is now with a very passionate and knowledgeable caretaker - KPS! Having seen the way you have restored and taken care of the Vintage cars at home, I am confident you will give the best care to this little German Classic.

Eager to know, will you be restoring the Beetle right away or once the Daimler comes back home? Glad you have chosen the Java Green.

Hope to join you in the future classic drives.

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

From the manual, it is clear that the wheels were black and white combo.
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-2.jpeg

On scrutiny of the wheels, we found traces of the old combo
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-1.jpeg

So we decided to revert to the original colour combination

Sanded down the wheels

Primer
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-4.jpeg

Painted the same to the original combination
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-5.jpeg

Fitted new radial tyres too. The previous tyres we made in 2003, so were hard.

Congratulations KPS.

I am sure you will get it back to the original glory by making it Java Green - a lovely colour for the Bug.

The bill of Manikandan Autos brought back a lot of memories. I used to get my Padmini Deluxe maintained by them whilst I was posted there in the late 1980s. They were a reliable lot and a no nonsense outfit. The chief Mechanic there would spend time patiently tuning and tweeking the carb until it gave 12 KM per litter in the city (of course under his feet). He was very angry with me when I changed the original solex to Webber Twin

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

KVCCC organised a drive to the historical Kunigal Stud Farm. This was a 90 miles round trip and ideal to check out Kaizer!

This is the history of the oldest stud farm in India.
Quote:
The farm was created by Tipu Sultan for breeding horses for his wars in the 1790s.[2] After his death, the farm was used by the British Army to breed horses, mainly Arabian horses for their cavalry regiments.[3] In 1886, the farm also housed Pero Gomez, the first-ever thoroughbred stallion to be imported into India. Subsequently, the horses were also bred for racing and these horses started to challenge the supremacy of horses imported from United Kingdom and Australia as well. The imperial government held control of the farm during the period under the superintendence of Colonel Hay, General Stewart, Colonel McIntire, Colonel A. A. Jones and Colonel R. J. Jones among others. It was then transferred to the Military Department of the Kingdom of Mysore before transferring to the government of Mysore state in 1948.[2] In 1992, the Government of Karnataka leased the farm to the industrialist Vijay Mallya's race horse division of United Racing and Bloodstock Breeders (URBB).

Nice Pictures and write up KPS.

Glad to see the stud farm is still being maintained well. Had seen it in its glory days when UB Group's flagship events used to take place in the late 1990s.

After the recent drive to Kunigal, the car was serviced

Good scrub down for the car

Got an opportunity to check out the under body. The car is very clean in relation to it age that it was in Kochi for more than 30 years
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-1-2.jpeg

No damages were seen on the engine
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-1-3.jpeg

Took the opportunity to take the car to office on a Saturday. Had to stop at the Bangalore's most recognized landmark, Vidhana Soudha

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

The glorious Bangalore weather was good motivation for a early morning drive. Since I did not have much time on hand, due to prior commitments, did a quick drive around Vidhana Soudha.

This Bus Stop at the rear side of Vidhana Soudha is one of my fascinating nostalgia places. This has survived and is maintained well due to its proximity to the Seat of the Karnataka Government.
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-1.jpeg

Enjoyed this picture and its composition.
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-2.jpeg

The famous Vidhana Soudha, is Bangalore's most recognized landmark.
Quote:
The Vidhana Soudha located in Bangalore, is the seat of the State Legislature of Karnataka.[1] It is constructed in a style sometimes described as Mysore Neo-Dravidian,[2] and incorporates elements of Indo-Saracenic and Dravidian styles.[3] The construction was completed in 1956.

Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-3-1.jpeg

Early mornings is the best time before the crowds start coming in. The Tricolour was in full flow. Great morning
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-3-2.jpeg

Opposite the Vidhana Soudha is the High Court of Karnataka, originally Attara Kacheri.
Quote:
The High Court is located in a building called as Attara Kacheri (meaning Eighteen offices). It is a two-storied building of stone and brick, painted red, in the Graeco-Roman style of architecture – a structure of vast expanse with Ionic porticoes at the center and at the two ends of the elevation. The construction of the building was supervised by Rao Bahadur Arcot Narayanaswami Mudaliar and completed in the year 1868. It was earlier named as Old Public Offices and got its name of Attara Kacheri when the eighteen departments in the general and revenue secretariat of the Mysore Government were shifted here from their crowded premises in Tipu Sultan's summer palace.

One last shot of the Vidhana Soudha, as I leave the place. Beyond the Vidhana Soudha is the Vikas Soudha, where the Secretariat is located

Re: Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300

Over the last few months we have been sorting the mechanical issues on the car. The plan was use it and figure out the niggles and then keeping fix it. This way the car gets sorted while in use.

The compression on all the four cylinders are very good. The engine appears to have never been opened.

The first thing we did was to upgrade the brakes master cylinder, change all the piping and wheel cylinders

The Clutch was not in great shape. The collar of the pressure plate had snapped. The car was running with the finger touching the releaser than the collar

The culprit

We were able to source as NOS Flywheel
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-3-4.jpeg

Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-3-5.jpeg

The No 1 cylinder was showing signs of oil. The plug was foul.
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-4-1.jpeg

The housing too showed oil at the bottom
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-4-2.jpeg

The culprit was this flywheel oil seal.
Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-4-3.jpeg

Replaced the flywheel oil seal with a German Elring make seal

Kaizer - My 1967 Beetle VW1300-5-4.jpeg

Replacing all the shock absorbers

The starter has been overhauled and ready to be fitted back. Hopefully in the next few months this car will be fully mechanically sorted.
