Celebrating 3 years of Ambassador Mark1 in my life!!

The car is being regularly driven around and performing quite well.

Mid of the week, taking some time off in the evening, to create these little moments with the marque!

63 Years of the Hindustan Ambassador!!

The Amby came home in Feb 2020 and it's exactly 3.5 years of owning this heritage car! The ownership experience has been a smooth one so far. While the car is ageing well, mechanically, the car is running quite well. Thanks to Bangalore's weather, there is hardly any rust spots.

I have parked this car at my parents' retirement home on the outskirts of Bangalore and it's blissful to drive around the scenic yet good roads. My mechanic assists me by coming over here for any quick repairs. Thanks to Bhpian Babyhindusthan (Souryadeep), he manages to source all the required spares from Calcutta and sends over courier to us at Bangalore.

Seen here the Ambassador parked alongside my Fiesta and also seen is our pet PeCo!

It was time for the weekend drive and some quick checks were pending. Engine oil was checked and topped up, radiator topped up with distilled water and filled in some petrol.

I won't say I am jealous ... though Funkykar's MarkII especially is extremely tempting!

What I remember most about cars of that era is that I could recognise the make of the vehicle blindfolded, if you put me inside one. Each type had its own essence. I loved the "Ambassador smell" and the "Fiat smell" as we get into one of them. Even our Standard cars had their own aura.

Thank you for keeping these alive and running. One of these days...

Re: Our 1960 HM Ambassador Mark 1 - The Indian Marque!

Very very happy to go through your posts. Your Amby brought back my childhood memories - I have literally grown up in HM cars, starting with Hindustan 14 followed by various versions of my Father's official vehicles - Mark II, III, IV, Nova, ISZ 1800 and Grand. But your Black Beauty takes the cake - exceptionally well-maintained with impeccable road presence. Hats off to you arun1100!
How I wish I could find and restore one in this lifetime - can happen only if I decide to shift base from Delhi NCR else the 15/10 year diktat will ensure that this dream remains unfulfilled.

That's one nice looking car. I have such fond childhood memories of the sofa like seats. My grandpa had a similar green car as his govt assigned vehicle and I remember doing 100km trips from the nearest railway station to the place he was posted.

Folks like you and Sourya are the ones who make this forum the place it is - one taking care of that car and the other helping do that well!!

Re: Our 1960 HM Ambassador Mark 1 - The Indian Marque!

Happy to see this thread on Mark1 Amby. My great grandparents had a Mark1 Amby. I remember taking the car for small drives during my college days. With simple controls and unique mechanism of pulling the dashboard knob to turn off engine. Also unique was the foot switch for low/high beam.

Six decades and going, wow!

The pictures, the memories, et al, transported me to olden times that were with golden memories etched in.

The picture with the uncle in the scooter was the most memorable of them all.

I hope amby lands up in a modern retro ev avatar with all the creature comforts and paraphernalia.

Wish you many more cherished memories with the car and keep us posted.

I hope there's relaxation for pollution control for vintage cars and how much for re-registration?

Lovely, but lose those unbecoming black stickers from the headlamp lenses. I don't think the South insists on them; more GJ etc.
