Simple. It's a 1956 Dodge Kingsway Deluxe.
Basically these were rebadged 1956 Plymouth Savoys.

Designed by Virgil Exner, chief stylist at Chrysler, this design had a low roofline for its time. Also, the quintessential icon of American styling of the fifties, the tailfin, was first applied at Chrysler to the 1956 models.

The 1956 Plymouth Savoy (and its badge-engineered corporate cousin: Dodge Kingsway Deluxe) were 4-door sedans that graced many an upper-class Indian home. These cars were sold in India by Seth Walchand’s Premier Automobiles/Bombay Cycle. Hindi movies of the period, such as “Chalti ka naam gaadi” are full of them: Sedans, Convertibles and Station Wagons.

Jassi, the vehicle seems to be in a fairly good condition; but why are the front doors ajar?

And is it just a body shell or an intact car?

Ah, so I finally found the Deepak Fertilizers Dodge. Deepak is a family friend, and keeps giving me stories of his family dodge languishing somehwhere in the factory, and he wanted help restoring it, but we never got down to seeing it. I think there are a coupla other interesting cars around as well.

Kiran, lets go down and see this car sometime.

And I was wondering how come you weren't aware of this one. I fairly remember you telling me about this car as well.

Lets go there this weekend.

I think its a full fledged car and not just the shell

so i did make a good find for my pune friends

guys do post some nice pics here once you go there

Here is a 1955 Dodge Kingsway Custom Suburban Station wagon.
You will notice its tall tail-fins hadn't started to grow yet,

that came the next year, 1956.

Its clamshell tailgate -- the rear window frame was hinged upwards and the tailgate itself was hinged downwards -- had hinges strong enough to support a 100 kg. truck engine transported on it.

Here is a 1955 Dodge Kingsway Custom Suburban Station wagon
in the 1958 movie, Chalti ka naam Gaadi. The villain's henchmen dump a body at dead-of-night.

The front of the 1955 Dodge Kingsway Custom was somewhat different from that of the 1956 Dodge Kingsway Deluxe.

Here's a 1955 front end.

And here's the 1956 front end.

Wouldn't you agree that the 1955 looked female, while the 1956 looked male?
