What is the big deal having two cars in the same colour ? Sorry !

Karl - can you please give me all the colours that used to come on "delite" fiats from 1965 to 1969. I am going to put the original thin bumpers (long one at the back, I have a new one I purchased from Nasik - remember ?) with super select wheel rims and wheel caps. Let's see what will stand out as unique.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Whats the big deal in having more than one of the same car? Same thing no? Some emotions are beyond reason.

Point well taken but same colour is making things a bit too mundane. What about my query on the "period colours?".

Best regards,

I thought you had decided on gray and black top?

From what little I can guess, the colours offered were black, a very light green, a very similar beige, grey, light pink, natina blue, and a deep maroon. Im sure there would have been other colours over the years.

Didnt delights come in pure white as well?? You can glimpse a couple of such cars in the song "Chakke pe chakka" in the film Brahmachari (Shammi kapoor), which came out around 1966 I guess? Said cars seem to be the earliest delights with the stainless steel grille....
Oh, and Karl- did they come out in 2-tones as well? Or were those custom-painted?

Yup, silly me. The earliest Delights were offered in a slightly off white, but not stark. I dont know how long this was available. Two tones weren't offered in India, and I doubt they were offered in International markets as well.

Dear Karl - small correction on two tone colour - two tone colour cars were in production inside PAL - in 1977 when I was in PAL as a college trainee, there was a model known as "Premier Padmini Special" which was made in two tone colour. There were two colour choices - "pale lilac (MMY43 walla white) with tartar Red top and C pillar" and "orange with arctic white top and C pillar (MTJ5183 still has the colour on it). Upto 1976, Premier and Padmini were written on the RH side of the number plate. In 1977 January, I made the first holes in the dicky to shift Premier and Padmini to the left side so that we could write - "Special" "Deluxe BE" or "Deluxe" on the right side. A small hand held fixture was made and given to the body shop. How were the two tone cars painted ? The bodies were painted in the paint shop but the roof and C pillar were not painted. This was done separately in the final OK area opposite the canteen in traditional garage style with heat lamps placed on the top and sides to dry the paint quickly. Just for your information.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
