re: My 1967 1500cc VW Beetle - Restoration done

Phew.... Weekend wasted ...

Spent most of the afternoon searching for the Bonnet loading springs, Had removed them way back in 2000, to accomodate the fuel flap opener, but since this time i am taking the Originality route... I was determined to search them.

Found it finally, and got it fitted on the car too

Since the Tinkers job is almost completed, i got the paint , Shocked to compare the prices.

Year 2000 - Passion Yellow (Highest quality of Dupont) costed Rs 1087/- per Litre.

Year 2011 - Passion Yellow ( Highest quality of Dupont- Dupont Super) costed me Rs. 3300 /- Litre

Three fold increase in these colors is too much to digest, cant help it anyways... The full kit including Surfacer and tube patti and a little off-white and Black for the rims totalled me upto Rs 8000/- (Cant afford to spend that kind of money at the end of the month)

Here are some pics of work in progress...

Presently the bonnet stands on its own.

re: My 1967 1500cc VW Beetle - Restoration done

Some more pics.

Finally i decided to Change the Color of the Car.....

I knew there existed a shade of Yellow in 1967, tough it is a bit pale, but now since lots of BIG Bucks are involved during the Final Restoration I thought why not even put the Color back to Original

The actual Shade for a 1967 VW Beetle is L 19 K (35) yukon yellow

The colors on car are as below.

Thank you guys for Chipping In.....

Well, i will be using Single tone Original YUKON YELLOW, since this is my effort towards pushing my Bug towards that little bit of Originality.

Tinker has completed all his job as on date.

Work happening at a fast pace.

I STILL NEED TO KNOW WHAT SHADES SHOULD GO ON THE RIMS......?????

Glad to see the constant endeavour to improve on an already restored car. The result should be a great transformation.

I'm not too sure, but the current combination looked pretty original for your Bug, i.e. black centres on body coloured rims.

Having 2 other VW's in its PRIME condition pushed me into this Spending Spree

But you too know it, its always in the back of our head to put the right things on the car. Its better to take off that Constant Niggle in our heads sooner.

Right now, my rims are Black in the centre and Silver on the edges.. I was thinking of the similar Black in the Centre but Cream on the rim edges.........!

Is it correct to paint the rim edges the same body yellow / or Off-white /Cream.......????

OTOH Need to know when you are putting back those pope's nose tail light assembly on your car......? (I know you've got it already)

My mistake - I didn't realise the rims were silver. I would think the rims should be body coloured, centres black. Just my thought, I am not sure on this.

When my car was painted the original style taillights were fabricated and fitted at that time itself. They came out pretty nice, though need the chrome ring and a better looking lens.

Currently I do not have originals, but looking for them.

Well, i did some research and found that the rims need to be BLACK CENTRE and OFF-WHITE OUTER RIMS...

Some work done on the Car Today....

Hopefully if the weather holds good tomorrow, by afternoon the painting should be completed.

Awesome dude, I met Arun today and he told me of the paint, just great. And by the way are you planning a two tone as the top is completly masked , we then see a killer in the making.

P.S. Sorry I forgot about meeting you today, shall we meet to morrow or on wednesday.

Thank you very much Manish.

The Roof was painted Yesterday, so We masked it to avoid Overspray.

The Bonnet is getting ready right now, Tomorrow once the Sun is up, we are spraying it.

Two Tone - Sorry, I am retaining the Original Shade and a single tone (Yukon Yellow) for now. Lets see, there is one more Beetle which i may paint a two-tone, Well, that over a new thread later once i start that restoration.

Have called the Electrician tomorrow for completing the electrical connections, Post this..... Its SHOW TIME at Home......

2 weeks the car is not running, i am somehow keeping my patience.

Moreso, the other restorations have taken a slight back seat, just hoping my friends dont pounce on me if i dont complete my bug Sooner.

P.S : NO ONE AT HOME EXCEPT MY KID KNOWS WHATS HAPPENING WITH THE CAR RIGHT NOW. I am sure they will be Happily shocked.

re: My 1967 1500cc VW Beetle - Restoration done

Sunday... Sunday....

Not much work, but got to see the Bug in Daylight.

We are observing 48 hours of NO TOUCH time limit.

Could not hold my excitement, so fitted a thing or 2 myself.

Its too emotional to see the car getting transformed (Touch Wood) I cannot express my happiness.

Waiting to see the end product.......
