Behram-sir, Totally agree. I am a hardcore biker and worked my way through the automotive R&D world (resisting all urges to follow the herd and become a software engineer) and today, I am a very contented vehicle test engineer (for motorcycle ABS development) with a global automotive supplier. What better joy than getting to ride motorcycles (everything from 7 bhp scoots to 200 bhp superbikes) from morning till evening, day after day, for free!! Oh, and at the end of the month, get paid for it too.

Best Regards
Viju

Dear Hifisharu - hello to you. What is KA22M2511? Can you please post a photograph? Also, please let me know how many kms is Mysore from Pune? Sorry for asking, I am old fashioned in these things (google-maps not withstanding)! Are the roads good? I don't want a suspension revamp on my hands after the trip, I have no time to indulge now.

Dear Viju - your profile says you are in Narita Japan. If you are indeed there, you are blessed to work with the Japanese. I have worked with Yoshikazu Shirahishi San (Nissan) and Shiraga San (Mitsubishi). I am daily using (or trying to use ) what they have imbibed in me. I wish you all success.

Dear Schakravarthy - point noted, good one indeed! .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

I never miss the ORVMs, as I grew up around cars that did not have ORVMs in the first place. My driving style in the city is extremely defensive. In today's traffic, things can turn dirty very fast, its just not worth it. Therefore, I regularly get snide remarks like: "kya unkeel, license hai kya" and I actually enjoy giving them blank looks and continue driving even more sedately. .

By the way, during test vehicle evaluation on the test tracks and on life test / HSD (high speed durability) vehicles, it's a completely different ball game altogether! There's no "unkeel" there! But for this, I have practiced for years and years, and I am still learning. I have the best job in the world, that of a professional vehicle evaluation engineer. ENJOY! .

That horn ring has been taken off a 1973 / 1974 Premier President.

Those are as rare as hens teeth.

Dear Fintail - I have the rare "toothed hen" on my LHD. Yaaaaayyyyy! This reminds me to replace it with the rarer "toothed hen senior" (the "fiat" button)! Thanks! .

My trips to Mumbai's Chor Bazaar during my college days is really becoming useful now!

Dear Behram sir,
A few rarer Hens Tooth FIAT horn buttons and a rare PAL president horn button as well with me with me as well. Actually four of them taken off scrapyard cars. And one came with the classic thin grip steering wheel. Teasures worth going into bank a locker. Attached one sample shot.
Regards
Sambit

Sorry for the delay in my post, I was away for a long time and hence hadn't been able to get pics. Here's KA22 M 2511 in all her present glory.

Re: Restored Fiats (Super Select & Others)

I found this 1962 model Fiat with lot of original stuffs. Rear view mirror, steering wheel, horn button, meter, grab handle, bonnet show, monogram on boot lead, wheel rim with cap, engine and cabin light, fuel lead, bumper, radiator grill etc. in local scrapyard. The scrapyard guy is asking Rs. 35K for whole car. Engine seems not to be original.

See if he will drop it to 25K or pay 20K at max (if really interested) but only if the engine is original. Else its worth 8-10 K.
You have some very hard-to-find parts in there.
I have brought my cars from Jamshedpur so can put a finger on pricing there.

Check papers & ensure you have minimum 1-2 years on them.
If you are really enthusiastic, you have some excellent restorers in Kolkata.

Well, if we notice, the number seems to say DLF, ie. Delhi! So, assuming it does have papers, it will still pose a registration problem for anyone wanting to buy it as currently, as I understand, NO old vehicles (even those called vintage) are allowed to be re-registered in Delhi or even allowed an NOC from a Delhi RTO as per NGT rules! I'm told currently there is a case going on in court related to this but it will take god-knows-how-long until they reach a verdict!
Maybe that's why the car was sold to the scrappie?

Worst case, it does have a lot of original parts to donate for the benefit of people who are serious enough about having them! Atleast let those not go wasted!
