Congrats on your success in retaining the original RC!!

Lucky you had the contact of an influential person! My mech. says he too knows someone in a similar position. 'will see if I could get such help in retaining the original RCs of my '62 herald (originally MADRAS STATE regn- MDN 5019- Coonoor (near Ooty) and my '62 Companion (also formerly from MADRAS STATE- MSV 2219)
'planning to do so for my pennant as well (the regn. seems to be from the mid 60s although it doesnt say which state the car originally was from despite being the old book type RC.)

Thanks rjvora for your views. I hope to retain the looks of this car just like that.
Thanks Stanher the ways and means adopted paid alas! Wish you all the success in your efforts-after all the original documents are very much a part of the car as a whole.

Anjan, that's quite an achievement. If only the babus in all RTOs had some sensitivity.. Old RC books are as much heritage as the car itself, and should be preserved for posterity. The new "smart cards" look too sterile and clinical in comparison.
Wonder if I'll have similar luck wth my fiat ?

Super Select thanksplease do everything possible to save the documents. Wish you all the very best.If nothing else works you can make and submit an affidavit saying that these are heritage documents and need preservation for posterity. And address it to the RTO of your city.

There is a Vintage and Classic Car and Bike Rally on 1st of March 2009, in which I am participating. Will post the rally pictures in a different thread and share my experiences. The route will be of 40 to 45 kms, traversing the length and breadth of the Orange City of Nagpur. I have participated in two rallies earlier here in 2004 and 2007. In 2007 "My Lady in Black" was declared the Best Classic Car, II Runner Up and was awarded a certificate alongwith a memento.About 60 cars and bikes had participated. There was a cap on the number of vehicles accorded entry and only 60 were allowed. This time they are taking more entries. So lets wait and watch out for 1st March 2009!

I am readying my car for the rally. The tyres are the MRF Legend "white wall". Fitted a Lucas "Made in England" headlamp (one was the original but the other one was a Lumax "Made in India" ) and swapped both the tail-light lamp covers for new ones. The exhaust has a new chrome tailpipe end.
I also did a strange thing. The lower radiator hose pipe was heckled by the cooling fan blade as the water pump bearing came out loose. The lower radiator pipe though new was cut and radiator leakage started. I got the water pump changed. The hose pipe was just lying with me since this incident took place a few months back.A few days back, I found the top hose pipe in a pretty bad condition.I just cut the lower hose pipe by 60 % seeing the straight layout of the upper hose.It was earlier damaged at the bend by the fan blade. To my pleasant surprise this 60% cut lower hose fitted excellently at the upper part of the radiator. The hose clips were tightened and now the things are fine.
A sad news I would like to share with fellow enthusiasts is that M/s JMI Industries has closed down. That accords a full stop to the new parking lights and such spare supplies by JMI. Maulana Mansuri of Mutton Street, Mumbai gave me this news when I spoke to him last week.He says from now on we will have to depend on cars being dismantled. And thats the saddest thing I would prefer- getting your car decorated at the cost of a DEAD CAR!
Incidentally, my Landmaster is fitted with JMI made front parking lights as you can see in the pictures.

She's looking great, all the best Anjan ! By the way, though JMI's shut down it would surely be possible to stockpile old stocks from dealers ?

Thanks SS for your wishes.Yeah as regards JMI we should know which dealers stock their products. maybe there are some in Delhi too as the company was based around Delhi. Will try out and share the information. Do post if you too get to know some such dealer.

My Landmaster is being checked along with a black paint retouch job.the retouch is necessitated as some places are showing the metal exposed a bit which does'nt look nice.
Its rear right wheel drum is broken into two, as can be seen in the last picture down below. The brake cylinders also had to be given a thorough checkup with the rubber bushes worn out.
Also I am getting the engine oil changed- Castrol from the local company depot (retail purchases ruled out as adulteration rackets are being busted from time to time).
