Re: Post-war Jaguars in India

A little OT, but since I saw an old Jaguar ad, here is one which is an all time favourite of mine...

Re: Post-war Jaguars in India

I was very fortunate to the spend a whole day with Vintageman in Lucknow. We saw many cars around Lucknow, his own collection and was hosted a fabulous dinner at his home.

But the best was driving his 1945 Jaguar 1.5L with a SS Engine late in the night. Had Lucknowi pan as an added bonus! Immediately after WW II, Jaguars were sold based on availability of parts to complete a car. This explains the SS Engine on this car, making it even more desirable !

The SS markings on this 1.5L engine

As we stop for Pan!

Driving a Jaguar with an open sun roof and Vintageman as your co-driver, could not ask for more! What an experience, brings a smile every time I recollect that day in Lucknow

Thank you Vintageman, you were a generous host. Thanks to you and your family, we felt very special

Indeed what a fine motorcar made even more desirable with the 'SS' engine casting. Certainly a well loved and cared for automobile.

On a different note, Lucknow seems to be a refreshingly very quiet town judging from non existent traffic on the roads; or perhaps it is the early hours before the city wakes up.

A few recent pictures of my 1.5 liter car. This car is a UK domestic model.

msabbasi, your car is just outstanding. What an original car, so beautifully maintained and of course it's history . Thank you for sharing these pictures.

Our adventure in Lucknow was close to midnight, that would probably explain the non-existence of traffic. It was a cold night, having rained in the morning. Beautiful city with such a vibrant culture. Amazing food

Warm regards

Subbaiah

We, here, hold Lucknow in great regard as a historic city rich in culture and art.

Thank you for appreciating grandfather's car.

Do you happen to know where this car was originally delivered? I've been trying to track down my great-grandad's Jaguar for a while now and this one seems to be from the same era. Would be incredibly helpful if you could share your knowledge.

The car was originaly delivered to Henleys Jaguar showroom in London from where my grandfather purchased it. Good luck with tracking down your great grandfather's car. If you remember the registration number, you may approach the taxation office in that state and try to see if the taxes have been paid. If yes then there may be an address associated with the owner.

A 1986 article on Shobha and Dilip De's 1952 Jaguar Mk 7 that was previously owned by the Mullick family in Calcutta.

Re: Post-war Jaguars in India

Is anyone aware of a Jaguar from Bangalore owned by the TR Mills Family, had made a brief attempt to track it down early last year, however got busy and it slipped my mind. The only information I have about the car is the fact that it was a sports car, and was presumably sold off in the mid to late 50s. Any information would be greatly appreciated
