i did find the car pictures taken in 91 or 92 i am guessing when the car still sported "LOVE V12", but decided against posting them.

Hey guys, about 4 years ago I was offered a 1963 S-Type Jag. Love the car, however it had it's fair share of problems. The owner is an avid car collector, with over 40 to his name. However the only hickup is that the car was in Australia. Recently the owner had come to my place, and he said the car was still with him, and that his offer still stood.

Being a family friend, he said if I could ship it to India, I could have it for free. He also said that he drives the car 2 times a year, to and fro the service centre :lol

My question is, would it be possible to import the said car? It's in pristine condition, but does need some engine work, and replacement of certain parts is advised by the owner...

As far as I know and as per the current Customs Regaulaltions the only way you can get that car into India is through the " Transfer of Residence"- route and no other way. Who ever is bringing the car into India has to own the car for a minimum of one year before bringing into India. As per the regulations which you may already aware of the car has to be a RHD and the Speedo in KMPH.

There are some basic details regarding imports which I had down loaded some time back, which I am reproducing below. However, I suggest that you kindly consult an Import Clearing agent / Consultant before you take a decision to ship the car.

No import licence may be needed for importing cars and other vehicles into India if the following conditions were satisfied:
1) The person who is importing the car should have been abroad continuously for a period of not less than two years.
2) The purchase consideration should have been made abroad.
3) The car should have been in use for a minimum of one year before the importer's return to India.
4) There should not be a time gap of more than six months between the importer's arrival in India and the import of the car.
5) Foreign exchange should be the medium through which the customs duty should be paid for the car.
6) The importer is at liberty to sell the vehicle anytime in India after it has been formally imported.
7) There should be a time gap of five years before the importer can import another car.
8) Where a handicapped person is concerned the import duty can be paid in Indian currency and the Government's permission should be obtained before selling it.
9) A license is required for the import of spares.
10) The market price would be the basis at which the import duty would be calculated. While the trade discount and depreciation on the value are deducted from the price, freight from the country of manufacture and insurance charges are added on to it in addition to the landing charges.
Depreciation allowed is as under:
PERIOD OF USE
DEPRECIATION ALLOWED
Every quarter 1 st year of use
4%
Every quarter II nd year of use
3%
Every quarter III rd year of use
2.5%
Every quarter IV th year and thereafter
2%

Customs Duty:
Basic Customs Duty
40%
Special Customs Duty
5%
Additional Duty
40%
M.V.Cess
0.125%
Special Additional duty of Customs
4%
This is subject to an overall limit of
70%

Hi ,

Here is something that came my way a few years back , offered for sale by the garage where it had undergone repairs . The owner could not settle the bills at that point of time.

Hey vinatgeman sadly a common situation with most jags of this era major reliability issues coupled with expensive parts = many cars left with unpaid bills sad they were in my opinion great looking cars but full of heartache if one tried to and operate them for long :(

No matter how long he waits this one may not become a collectable classic, and even it does this one would be into the ground. I am assuming he is tempted by the new found love for classics that is doing/done the rounds in my opinion between 2005 to 2008 when prices had frimed up. He may have to wait another decade for the next one in my opinion with nothing if you go by the reason's mentioned at the begining

A post war jaguar 1.5 Sedan and the remains of a ravishing E type.

Did this E Type get resurrected ? Is it Doc's car ?

The third pic of the Ex Ajam Jah Jaguar 3.5 Sedan now somewhere in the North?

I remember seeing this Jag and sitting in it when it was with the Babu Khan's of Hyderabad.
