Okay Sorry I had to leave the fiat club meeting early today but I had to simply make a trip to the garage and check out the progress of work.

As you can see from the Pics various Patches have been sourced and the rusted metal is being replaced Suitably, I checked the guage of the patches just to make sure that they were the same guage as the original metal they were being replaced with.

Dont Worry Prabal the foot rests will be replaced after due repair.

Patterns of the flooring was compared and matched with the bodywork catalogue and some reference pics that I am also attaching.

Hi Amol,

Your Tinwallah surely seems to be a skilled guy from the way we can see the work progressing. However, since you are particular about originality and perfectionism (just as I am!), I would request you to instruct your fellow to buy very clean and non-rusted new metal sheets without even superficial surface rust. It should just be clean mirror like shining finish before welding on to the rest of the body panels or doors or flooring. Sandpapering the superficial rust later doesn't really help and sometimes these charlies just spray the red oxide/zinc primer or wurth directly over the surface rust in our absence to avoid the extra labour involved. All said and done and to cut a long story short please please make sure that you have the new sheets (be it door patches, running boards, whatever) are free from ANY superficial rust when purchased new from the shop.

Also, one more thing.....please make sure that they thoroughly treat the underpart of the rear footrests and flooring area covered therin, with primer/wurth or whatever you decide to use, before welding on again.

I restored my LHD in 1999 in a similar way and the positive results are showing even today after the car has withstood mumbai weather for 9-10 years indoors/outdoors.
In other words, the life and durability of the body is extended.

Your dukkar restoration thread is surely going to be exciting and good inspiration in all directions for one and all here.

Dear Roni

The patches are not as bad as they look in the photo (ofcourse not as good as the italian ones in the reference photo), I checked them myself, there is little or no surface rust, its mostly mixture of grime and dust from lying around in a godown for a long long time (you know how stuff is stored in India!)

I will make sure they sand it down to bare metal before they apply any treatment, after your post I called the garage guy and asked him to make sure he treats the under side of the footrests before he fixes them, dont worry i will personally check this before he fixes them.

So what are your thoughts on colour? I am getting a chance to pick up paint chip samples for 1957, 600 Fiats do you know if the 1100's and 600's had common colours?

I just chanced too have that one mag at home.
I tried scanning the mag cover, but that completely changed the hue.
Will post if I come across substantial picture.

One doubt, I always thought that this model came until 56, then the centre light one during '57 & '58 and the '59 ones had the tail fin...please correct me if I'm wrong.

Some person picked this almost 100% original one for 3K in 2003.

wow pretty original I must say with most stuff already on her, what whitewalls do you have on her? They seem to be narrow whitewallls unlike the ones available here.

I think it used to be close to Tartan Green in the Metallichrome section of the Duco card.

I am putting up some pictures of progress on the car, pictures of parts of a certain erstwhile millecento fender belonging to another BHPian (with plenty of foresight) will be used to build new light wells for the fenders to accomodate new carello twin sided headlights, meanwile more of the peacock blue paint emerges near the B pillar.

I am preferably looking for the yellow horn button that came on the Early elegants (pics of which have been posted earlier on this thread). But for now looks like I will have to settle for the later one.
