Fiatful goodies !!

Hey guys !

Look what's going to adorn MRX 6839 soon .. Huuuge thanks to dear friend Adheesh who got me the following:

1) Oh-ree-G-nal rear view mirror with light. The light switch is crisp as new. The stem has that very very rare aluminium cover to hide the electrical wire.

2) Oh-ree-G-nal 'Sipea' starter switch, with FIAT key.

3) Shiny aluminium gear knob.

I'm thrilled to bits - thanks again, Adheesh !

Congrats Ravi, that key and switch is gold. Not sure whether this mirror with light would be correct for your car though. They did come upto Select, but I don't think Super Select.

I stand corrected, they may have come on your car too, as Rony's car sports it too.

Besides, I did see one fitted to a Super-select that was scrapped here as well so they would've had them as OE.

Mine is a repro but with 5 points and one dummy at the rear as in the picture below. Amol has the 4 point one.

The switch is SIPEA made in Italy originally from a Select/ SuperSelect. It has only 3 positions; Off, IGN and start. Later cars in India and export variants from Italy had the left position. Also, the mirror as well as the switch are from the same car.

Thats correct Karl. The new SS also had RVM's with a concealed interior light (termed courtesy light). We had quite a few SS's among relatives and I remember fiddling with the light switch many a time.
The C pillar also had two semi oval interior lights inside, on either sides with switches.
The windscreen washer black rubber switch below the dash was a nice thing for me to play with as a child. And I remember, during night driving with the dipper let loose a beautiful light blue lamp would light up near the ignition key in the SS.
Ravi I am sure you have incorporated all these features in your beauty.
The Ambassadors on the other hand had a centrally mounted interior light for decades, that would be insensitive to opening or closing the driver's door, unlike the Fiat SS.There was no windscreen washing system inbuilt like the Fiats. The Amby however had the OE clock in its dash till 1965.Fiats lacked this feature.
So I believe Fiats were more sensitive to users' needs with such goodies even in 1962!
